Well I'll take issue not with Mathis or the arrangement which are flawless. The words are weak. The melody has awkward phrases. The first eight bars are actually broken into
3, 2,1,2 Yes! that adds up to 8 but awkwardly. There is word Ira gave up on the tune and submitted his perhaps 50th version. I think he was stumped at Kern's oddball melody.

Still LOVE this AMAZING singer and this after so many years.....He's fabulous....!!!!

it just astounds me how these jewish men could write such awesome and beautiful lyrics when the were being percecuted. If you think about it so many composers/lyricists were jews and i will never stop loving them for the joy they have given me. I will listen to their songs forever !

Our country would have missed out on so much wonderful music if it hadn't been for Johnny Mathis.  What a voice. What a terrific talent.
