Johnny Mathis - It's All In The Game Lyrics

Many a tear has to fall
But it's all in the game
All in the wonderful game
That we know as love

You had words with him
And your future's looking dim
But these things your heart can rise above

Once in a while he won't call
But it's all in the game

Soon he'll be there by your side
With a small bouquet

And he'll kiss your lips
And caress your fingertips
And your heart will fly away

You had words with him
And your future's looking dim
But these things your heart can rise above

Once in a while he won't call
But it's all in the game

Soon he'll be there by your side
With a small bouquet

And he'll kiss your lips
And caress your fingertips
And your heart will fly away

There is not a song this man cannot sing

  11. M.... H....

What's the deal with the bass ? !! Way too heavy and up front !! Probably a patch on a synthesizer (keyboard bass). To me it's below what you'd expect from the immitigable Johnny Mathis...Who made this crappy decision ? !

    M.... H....

I happen to Love the Bass... Especially when it's played through my 16 Speaker Acoustically Balanced Factory Alpine Sound System in my $92,000 Jaguar XK-8 Convertible with the Top Down... You would Love the Bass too!!!

  12. O.... R....

Absolutely wonderful... And with the background vocals of Take 6, it's just magical.

I, like so many others, associated this song with Tommy  Edwards. Never heard Johnny Mathis's version until tonight. That was spectacular! Thank you!

You're welcome, Suzanne, if you're not aware- the diversity of Johnny's style is so broad- he makes each song his own. enjoy.!

@danthegeezer86 - ok, since you're calling yourself a 'geezer'- I won't complain! LOL!. Johnny is timeless and ageless- while, like all of us, he moves on- I have trouble even thinking of that word in relationship to him- and I dont' think it's idealism- he just defies age. If you've not seen him in person -or not in a while, surprise yourself. Enjoy.

  21. l.... ....

@flameone1000 - it is - it was made famous by Nat King Cole, Johnny's 'mentor' of song, in a way, I love his interpretation- but of course I say that all of the time:) enjoy, enjoy,

  22. l.... ....

@done7ful - you're so welcome- I found the history interesting- I would never have guessed that to be the origins of the melody- and from so long ago. Wonderful that you saw Johnny live! He commands the stage- and as I heard Jane Oliver say in an interview once "you could hear a pin drop"- people are mesmerized-by voice and his lovely self. Enjoy!

@777Moonbeam - You're welcome. When I go to research the songs before I put them up I expect to find some details- but this was very different! I must be out of knowledge re: Tommy Edwards- as I said I always associated the song, in the early years, with Nat King Cole. Others covered it as well; Doris Day, Louis Armstrong and more. I love Johnny's version- .great song and so glad you liked it. enjoy!

Thank you for the interesting information about Vice President, Charles Dawes, writing the melody to this heart wrenching song. In 1911 my sweet father was born and of course President Reagan. I had always associated it with Tommy Edwards but Mr. Mathis is also wonderful.
