Johnny Cash - No Expectations Lyrics
Come and take me to the airport
Come and bore me on that plane
Cause I've got no expectations
To ever pass this way again
Never in my weary life have I felt like this before
Your love is like a diamond and you cast your pearls to swine
And as I see you leavin' me it drags my peace of mind
Come and take me to the airport
Come and bore me on that plane
Cause I've got no expectations
To ever pass this way again
Your love is like the water
Your love is like the music
First it's here and then it's gone
Come and take me to the airport
Come and bore me on that plane
Cause I've got no expectations
To ever pass this way again
Come and take me to the airport
Come and bore me on that plane
Cause I've got no expectations
To ever pass this way again

Johnny Cash No Expectations Comments
Fantastic cover by JR - guess Keith Richards was thrilled Cash sang this on his album Gone Girl.
I like Johnny's version better. It sounds more like he is moving forward. Like he's not going to wallow in the sadness.
A very impressive cover version of a great Stones song. Lets not compare as they are both great versions.
Unfortunately, I hate this version
Always been a Stones nut and have always loved The Man in Black. To me this is the best covering the best. Great rendition! The Stones were probably honored as hell. I know Keith was. He said that Johnny was a hero to him.
The stones wrote it ,and two greatest did it their way,and I like em both lol
Esta buena canción la cantaron THE ROLLING STONES en el año 1968 y la versiono JOHNNY CASH en el año 1978
I love the Rolling stones and Johnny Cash, had no idea until now he had sang any Rolling Stones songs, but this is not quite how the song is supposed to be at least in my mind , it's pretty good of course but sounds bit too happy, it's a melancholy ballad.
cash did a good job on this song...now could he getaway with emotional rescue?...no!,,,.however the stones covered alot of his songs in concert in the beginng...espically...I Guess Things Happen That Way....
thank you johnny, rest in peace
Johnny was a true legend. Great cover of a great song .
For me Johnny Cash always remains the best. He was unique in the music, in the voice, in the lyrics. A really great guy.
jagger wrote this....not cash
@67stickyfingers I know. I spoke in general.
@John Milton cool..i guess i know what u mean now...all good ..cash is a legend either way
Stephanie B.. It's " regardless", not " irregardless" Love the grammar police
+crazycatlady68 irregardlessˌɪrɪˈɡɑːdləs/adjective & adverb informal adjective: irregardless; adverb: irregardless regardless."the YouTube poster always says, irregardless of how other posters are feeling, ‘Smile! It's only a damn video.’"
Johnny crushes The Stones , especially with "come and pour me on that plane".
+Otto Fick Misses the melancholy of the Stones version, especially Brian's sweet slide.
Lol what? This is good and I like that he added his own style to it. But the Stones' version is still superior and more intimate and meaningful. And like Steve said, it misses the beautiful slide guitar from Jones
Fuckoff
Completely different version. A great honor to the Stones but in no fucking way does it crush them.
Unfortunately he ruins this beautiful song. For how much l liked and love Johnny Cash. It s a song to be performed slowly....the mood is that. An uptempo like that ruins it completely. We schould have had Rick Rubin at the controls!!!!
@TheRockerxx69 And I am a singer, songwriter and guitarist. I am also a great friend for 7 years of Johnny's drummer WS Holland. I know good music when I hear it.
Hey now, listen to the music
I think is still a good song, but the Stones version is so much better
Ruins this Song?...Are you for real?...They took it into a different direction (A Bit Of Bluegrass ) For Christ Sake you have no idea about music...Oh and bye the way The Stones loved his different version...They did and still idolize Cash...Snuff on that ...
Although I am a big Stones fan, Johnny blows their version complete out of the water. Once he recorded a song, he owned it!
Johnny Cash is the only artist that I have see praised by so many other artists irregardless of their musical genre from country to rock to rap. They all spoke highly of his integrity and his refusal to change his music just to please the suits. His fans throughout the world responded by showing those suits that great music played by a great artist knows no boundaries. I am sure that Jagger and Richards approve of this cover.
Stephanie B
I listen to a broad range of music from heavy metal to classical, opera to rap, pop to country.
I think part of the reason Johnny Cash gets so much praise is because his own music covers many genres. Ostensibly country, but you can find snips of rap (like Get Rhythm) or rock or pop.
On top of that, he had a personal integrity for decades that saw him admired by man. Not a perfect man sure, but at least an honest "warts and all".
I knew quite a number of guys my age (~20s) that were shedding tears when he died. One if the most loved artists of all time.
irregardless?
Thanks for posting this! As always, one of my favorite Johnny Cash covers that I have enjoyed playing out at gigs/shows/performances of my own!! Such a great tune, thanks again!
did he do any other stones songs?
This is the first I've heard this arrangement. Awesome!
@predlycon
Ha! True enough. My bad.
Heard this on a compilation recently (The Man In Black- The Definitive collection) and loved it. So different to the original. An overlooked gem from the great man.
I have always loved this song by Stones and could not imagine to perform it different way. As far as I found this JC version which is so "cashy", it became one of my favourite JC song. Great.
what's with the backup singers?
tallarico I know. They're good, right? They make the song! June Carter and the Carter sisters.
You know it's a Jagger/Richards compilation, right?
- i actually seem t hear a bit of woody guthry tom joad out of it - maybe i am wrong
lol - wonderful - but sounds strange when you are used to the beggars banquet stones version - normally J.C. would do the gently ballad version of the song - but this is a very catchy tune - g
