Johnny Cash - Highwayman Lyrics
I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.
I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around
I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

In germany we don't have good country music.
Plot twist; their personas they speak of are all really dead, and they're singing from the other side....
Feels Surreal
Im going to have this song as my funeral song
Adding this verse for the firies who just died in Australia's bush fires:
I was a fireman,
Towards the danger I've always gone
Axe in hand and helmet on
Burning buildings are where
men like me are made
I'd be a liar to say that
I was never afraid
Breathed the flames of hell
Just like any other day
and now I’m gone they say
But I’ll be back someday, someday, someday...
This is just perfect, it brought tears to my eyes. It fits with the melody perfectly as well. Willie and Chris are still around, you should try to see if this could be added to whoever holds the copyright and rights to this amazing song. Truly wonderful lyrics.
Would love to see an extended version of this song with more stories and artists...

I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around, I'll always be around

Legends enough said
Thing I love about the older generation they are more comfortable in their own skin. The direct approach may hurt some people but it's the best way. It's straight down the line. People's feelings do matter but it also needs to be understood that people are responsible for their own feelings. I can feel many things.. for some people it takes longer to get them under control but I would ask were they really mean or they didn't give the answer wanted?
Fucking nostalgia
We go from the 18th century, to the 19th, to the 20th and then out of nowhere Cash is all, "I'm James T. Kirk, deal with it!"
This song reminds me of my grandfather. I love you Papa!

yucatan peninsula
Someone here from gta??
Damn, congratulations on a great video!
Highwayman, Africa, Hotel California, Take me Home. Legend songs.
This song makes me think of the true mysteries of the spirit 🔥🤘🐯
"Or I may simply be a single drop of rain..."
To me the most beautiful line of the song. It acknowledges the true nature of God, present in everything, the drop of rain as much a part of the highwayman as the sailor or dambuilder.
And what becomes of a drop of rain as it falls into the sea? What becomes of a body as it rots into the earth? What becomes of the Spirit as it returns to the Godhead?
That's the line that always gets to me.
From GTA 5 radio 📻
