John Martyn - Over The Rainbow Lyrics

Somewhere over the rainbow
Birds fly high
There's a land that I dreamed of once
In a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And all the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Away, across the chimney tops
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why, why can't I

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Away, across the chimney tops
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I dreamed of once
In a lullaby

It seems like everything he touched he made more beautiful ............. the crazy mother - much love to you John ;)

    B.... S....

of all the comments here regarding Jon,,,,, yours brought tears to my eyes. "crazy mother" is right! I had the privilege of seeing him at The Bottom Line late in his life. He was drunk off his gourd. But when he got around to singing a song, only beauty emerged.

  26. D.... R....

Bet he heard Ray Charles at some stage. Lovely!.

    D.... R....

both men singing from the same hymn sheet & delivering 110%

  27. M.... ....

I was a fan of John's and a fan of this song, but never heard him singing it, until the closing credits of a movie. I stayed seated in the theater until the last note. Does anyone know which film that was. Peace All.

    M.... ....

Are you sure it wasn't "you don't know what love is "the Billie Holiday song which was played throughout the credits of the film "The talented Mr Ripley
If your playing fulham away with another woman that song will really make you cry. John must have been singing that to someone from his soul and heart
but well never know who. Its also the last track on the Glasgow Walker album
    hope that helps

    M.... ....

You might be right, I have heard Chet Baker's version of "You Don't Know What Love Is" many times, I don't remember John Martyn singing it, but I did see "the Talented Mr. Ripley".

  28. m.... f....

when he played at Essex Uni my mate sold hin a packet of coke and he snorted the whole lot in one go. I also had the privlage of spendinding an evening with his mate Danny T who was in his alcoholic phase when I lived in Ipswich. Mad fuckers, but brilliant mad fuckers. This version is so so nice.
