John Martyn - Outside In Lyrics

Love... love... love... it's love
Love... it is love

Love... love
It can't be no
There can't be no mistake
It must, it must be love

Is it love, is this love, love
Is that love, that's love, love, love
It must be, it has got to be
Love...

John Martyn Outside In Comments

This track is simply magnificent ..... this wonderful man was so underrated and so accessible to us, his followers. A true gent and a musical giant. Sorely missed in these days of mediocrity.

This got me addicted to John Martyn the first time I heard it on KTCL 93.3 in Fort Collins CO back when it was the greatest radio station east of the Continental Divide. Now they play punk almost exclusively. In the 70s I learned virtually everything I know about music from their DJ's. I had a bumper sticker on my VW that said KTCL 93.3: For the Creative Listener,

This was my first John Martyn album, bent my head (in a good way) then "One World"
took me away....I had the pleasure of meeting & jamming with JM in a pub in Tonbridge Kent many years ago. ( i played drums ) what a Legend he is ,from a lifelong fan x

What a track! No one can be as atmospheric and trippy as John Martyn. Thanks for uploading.

  8. E.... ....

Chris Wood, of Traffic, on sax, if I'm not mistaken.

    E.... ....

There's certainly a version with Chris - Hiddenmasters digitized the John Martyn studio master tapes for this track for the Chris Wood Evening Blue release this year. Also for So Much In Love

I heard this when it first came out and the word was that it was Bobby Keyes. It does not say so on the jacket. It is one of the greatest sax solos in all of rock but it's too breathy for Chris Woods. Whoever, they did one hell of a job. Wikipedia is not infallible.

I recorded John Martyn's "Outside In" from FM radio at 4am one 1973 morning (KNAC Long Beach), and never knew the source until now. I can see why he's been called a one-man Pink Floyd, very original and well-integrated use of electronic wizardry in front of a pretty tight group. The stand-up bass and the horns are magical, his gravelly voice is like fog rising over the sea.

Watch the song Inside Out performed live (unfortunately, John has passed on, but some great videos are here on You Tube). This guy is one of the best guitarists who has ever lived! I have seen quite a few outstanding guitarists (Jeff Beck, Jerry Garcia, Al Dimeola, Carlos Santana, Jerry Douglas, to name a few) and John Martin was as good as any I ever saw! I am so sad I didn't discover him until after his passing. R.I.P. John, you genius.

    Good call :)
