Oh, to be fair I've always stuck with 70s by-and-large, but the likes of D'Angelo, Raphael Saadiq, Anthony Hamilton and Michael Kiwanuka are all worth checking out on the modern front if you haven't already. Not really my area though. :)

Plenty of great "mainstream" music out there too. Listen to it all at least once then decide what you like, instead of limiting your self. Legend has like 9 grammy's and charts all the time so he is as "mainstream" as you can get and still rocks. ;-)

@Cassidy704 yea you're right, mainstream hip hop lacks talent right. For example Lupe Fiasco, or Eminem's Recovery album which was unfortunately became main stream but since it was mainstream Eminem must have lacked talent.

@scholloyrom Other countries are passing us up educationally because our education system sucks... Not exactly a hard concept of common sense to grasp.

@scholloyrom Maybe you had the luck of going to a good school, but not all of us have that luxury. We have to work to change how the K-12 public school system in the States works... for the sake of our children's futures.

@scholloyrom My parents had high educational expectations for me. They unfortunately did not have the financial resources to get an education in their home countries, but they taught me what they could. They took me to the library and they always told me to do the best I could. BUT, if they teachers in our public education teaching poorly, or not teaching at all (which was the case for me), how can their students be inspired? More importantly, how are they supposed to learn?
