This song should be remade every so often so that every generation is familiar with it, even if the original is one day lost. That's how valuable I think this tune really is, it's stunning

The only thing that occurs to me is 'trying too hard'. The harmony melody and intent of this song are simply magnificent as written. It's one of those moments in pop history that should be put behind a 'in case of emergency break glass' things. Wilson was inspired as a writer and producer and this song is one of those "Yesterday" moments. Leave it alone and let's celebrate what it is. No harm in doing covers....a lot went into this but essentially the orchestration is awkward and boring. There's a kind of 'churchiness' in this version that makes it sound stupid and overblown. Sorry John. Lighten up.

Oh my goodness, love this version so much power but I'd probably have to say the original had so much hope, wonder and genuinity, but this was still really well made!! :)

I loved their live version at the Grammys soooo much better than this arrangement. The arrangement didn't make me feel the lyrics like I did at the Grammys. If you haven't seen it yet look it up. BEAUTIFUL

A lot of people do cover songs and there are so many covers that are done better than original. But some songs can never make a better cover than original and I think "god only knows" is one of the kind. (Absolutely No offense to John legend and Cynthia)

Please tell me that I am not the only one who knows this song is a Beach Boys song... The lyrics are over 50 Years old and still I have no idea what those words mean and I'm 18 years old. I love this song so much. Thank you Brian Wilson for writing such a mysteriously beautiful song. I am glad John Legend covered it but to me I will still hear the the Beach Boys harmonies in my head =)

I just hope when people do covers of really old songs the new audience knows the original. Thats been a concern of mine with anyone who covers artists of the past. When John did Pride in the Name of Love, I was nervous no one knew who U2 was. When this came out I just want people to know who the Beach Boys are. I'm all for covers but IMO people should know who wrote some of the best songs of all time are.

There's no beach boys vibe because this isn't them. It would be boring if they covered it and sang it exactly as The Beach Boys did. Covers are usually someone else's interpretation of a song.

Pathetic. This no-talent John Stephens (no legend, he) trashes one of the great songs in pop music history. This is like listening to a Disney-created teen idol trying to do "Satisfaction" by The Stones. Just ugh.

I do agree that it sounds like it's trying a bit too hard to be sentimental and happy, but for what it is, it's actually better than most stuff coming out nowadays, honestly.
