John, Elton - Crazy Water Lyrics

On a bench, on the beach
Just before the sun had gone
I tried to reach you
Plain faced and falling fast
You looked so vacant like an empty shell
Whose life had passed upon the ocean

Before light shook the sky
Down by the docks I saw
The masts unfolding
Don't turn away, please understand
It's a life and a living
And a way to keep the wolves away
From hungry hands, from hungry hands

Crazy water
Takes my fishing boat on Monday morning
Dangerous dreaming
If we all believe in the things you believe you're seeing
Oh we'd never drop our nets in the crazy water, crazy water

Tangled lives, lonely wives
Shoreline widows pray
For the souls of missing whalers
Endless nights on an endless sea
Where nothing lives between us
Just the breakers on the ocean
Separating you and me
Separating you and me

  6. J.... F....

Listen to ‘Chameleon’ next, and you can see they are perfect opposites.

  7. B.... C....

Probably one of the most underrated songs by EJ. Good thing though I can enjoy it and play it and people say wtf when he record this ?

  8. M.... F....

Another great arrangement by Paul Buckmaster

  9. M.... P....

He is so crazy and sexy

  10. D.... M....

    Nothing else sounds like this

  11. d.... w....

One of Elton's finest. So many great songs in EJ's back catalogue, this is up there with the best of 'em.

  12. M.... L....

Brilliant song and one of my favourites by Elton John. It takes me back to the time before leaving school in 1977, hearing it on the radio with other classic songs such as 'New Kid In Town' by the Eagles, and 'Solisbury Hill' by Peter Gabriel. I only ever had one album by Elton which I played to death, and that was 1974's 'Caribou'. Didn't have much money back then, so couldn't buy all I wanted until I got work and wages...

  13. C.... C....

    Precioso éste tema ! ...🤗🤗🤗🤗

  14. K.... L....

    Roger Popes drumming.....killer!

    K.... L....

    Great wasn't he?

  15. S.... ....

One of my top 10 favorite Elton songs, another is (I feel) Like A Bullet In The Gun of Robert Ford.

    S.... ....

Great drummer on both those tracks!!

  16. G.... M....

I Love when he scream Crazy Water in live version💙

  17. p.... w....

I have Blue Moves ranked in the top 5 of the greatest LP's ever made. A brilliant work.

  18. C.... M....

his best album. jazz fusion, pre-disco + London philharmonic

    C.... M....

Wrong. Read the credits! It's my orchestra - The Martyn Ford Orchestra! The LPO could not play like this!

    C.... M....

Absolutely Mr Ford. The LPO had nothing on you, especially with what you did with this song. Its absolutely amazing and sublime! :)

  19. J.... B....

This is the first time I have heard this album all the way through. Talk about flailing frantically. Elton and Bernie are merely recycling old musical themes and motifs, to no great success. Some very limp and dull work. The lyrics, once amazing, are like background noise. Was Elton beginning his drug spiral at this time?

    J.... B....

You have NO appreciation for great music!

  20. m.... b....

in the style of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart"

  21. j.... m....

    fantastic production by Gus Dudgeon!!!

  22. S.... K....

Fantastic song, and I especially love the live versions with just Elton and Ray. The piano part is amazing!

  23. p.... p....

PER ME IL CAPOLAVORO MASSIMO DI ZIO ELTON E UNO DEI DIECI PEZZI DI SEMPRE NELLA STORIA DELLA MUSICA... GOD SAVE REGINALD

  24. s.... d....

Glory I am an old one was on a golfer today I

  25. D.... S....

The drumming on this song is my single-most favorite drum performance of all of Elton John's songs. I loved BLUE MOVES. Still listen to this great album frequently.

    D.... S....

Good to meet you Dan...........I agree with you!!

  26. D.... M....

    #68 of my 2018 elton top 100

  27. B.... E....

Brilliant ensemble of musicians on this album. Boundless talent and genius!

  28. D.... Z....

This is what only EJ fans have the fortune to enjoy and appreciate. They don't play this on the radio but we all know that this "unknown" music is for us, the fans!

    D.... Z....

so many hidden treasures surpassing various hits

    D.... Z....

He played this when I saw him in vegas

  29. J.... R....

On a bench, on the beach
Just before the sun had gone
    I tried to reach you

  30. b.... m....

    Great song

  31. R.... ....

One of my fav EJ songs- Blues Moves is a classic every bit as important musically speaking as any of the vast incredible catalogue of music Elton managed to produce. Blue Move is Elton's 11th album, features a whose who of musicians and is technically the best recorded album he produced to date really. With the late great James Newton Howard and Gus Dudgeon, Elton produced a record that is practically flawless. Listen to the funky clavinet playing on this song, Crazy Water. The sound of the drums, bongos and other percussion. This is a truly great album known by most for Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word which btw, ranks up there with any other great love songs Elton has written.

    R.... ....

as of 01-05-2019, James Newton Howard is still living

  32. J.... B....

Then WE'DE NEVER drop our nets on the CRAZY water!!!!!

  33. D.... L....

Toni Tenelle (minus the Capt) on awesome background harmonies!

  34. s.... ....

i reckon this my seminal song

    s.... ....

I'm 53 btw so 12/13 at the time

  35. C.... F....

Too bad Empty Sky does not receive more attention than his current endeavors.

  36. J.... L....

Once again that immeasurable, dynamic, precise Roger Pope drumming thunders through this song. Absolutely thrilling when musicians this good are driven by such an incredible rhythm. He and Ray Cooper laid down some heavy duty percussion together. Wonderfully recorded as well. I hope Elton John knew just how great these men were -- I certainly did. I never tire of listening to this song and getting tangled in their drumming perfection. The conclusion is pure bliss.

    J.... L....

I couldn't agree- Roger Pope and Ray Cooper. A truly locked in drums- Percussion unit!!!

  37. R.... B....

Crazy water - Is that co2 with attitude? and if so, has all mankind been afflicted after drinking from the cup?

  38. t.... m....

Great song brings back happy memories.

  39. T.... P....

What an epic, what a tragically underrated single - can't believe it only went to #27 and had a paltry 6-week run on the UK top 40. This was never far from my deck for many months, and I still think it was one of his very best. Does he ever play this one now?

And although he turned in a fantastic performance at the BBC's Radio 2 Festival In A Day in Hyde Park, on 11th September '16, it was disappointing to note that he didn't attempt his most magnificent, keynote work Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding - which I'm sure would have been a crowning glory and brought the (Buck) House down!

    T.... P....

Terry Platt he played it in Ohio a few years ago, around the time Guy died.

    T.... P....

He did Crazy Water at the Albert Hall in 2010ish

  40. L.... G....

    Toute ma jeunesse ...

  41. D.... L....

One of my favorite uptempo rock song.

  42. J.... ....

I'm glad Elton put out these non commercial gems. I'm 64 and was there with him in the 70s. Lost touch for decades. I'm getting into his albums that were obscure. It's great fun. He's got to be pleased at the resurgence of his popularity. Online music is great to access.

    J.... ....

    Que disco cojones!!

  43. J.... M....

    Very Under Rated Album!!!

    J.... M....

John McHugh yes I agree! this was one of his best albums ! also rock of the westies was very good album!

    J.... M....

My exact words when I dated this album on Amzn reviews!

  44. A.... ....

One of my favorite EJ tunes. Love Ray's percussion work, especially the congas front and center!

    A.... ....

Ray on percussion and Roger on drums worked so well together. Great combination!

    A.... ....

I remember Ray coming into the Marquee Studios when we were overdubbing Crazy Water and Gus said just go do your thing. He just laid it down and then we all went down the local pub in Soho for a pint and a sandwich.Unbelieveable...... Ray was such a modest down to earth guy and a genius percussionist.

  45. w.... ....

Just an all out great song, from beginning to end!

    w.... ....

    +wjbushsr it's peppy, for coffee drinkers...smooth

  46. S.... S....

Won't find a song in today's pop radio that is as good as the worse song on this album.

    S.... S....

+Stephen “Steve” Sponsler aint that the truth though? Very under rated album, one of my favorites.

    S.... S....

    +Karen Mancuso
I've always felt that had Blue Moves been released as a single disc it would have been well received by the critics, but since this was the first album released on Elton's Rocket Records Ltd. label he got what he wanted, another double LP. I'm sure that coming off a string of 7 #1 albums no one was going to tell him to cut out the lesser songs. Still all criticism aside, a commercial success peaking at #3 on the Billboard 200 and certified platinum within 2 months of release.

    S.... S....

    +Karen Mancuso mine too!!

    S.... S....

I think this is among the better songs on the album.

  47. 2.... D....

Man they could write em then. Bring it all back please!!!!!!!!!

  48. c.... t....

Bought this LP in 1976. His best. would love to see dancing/choreography w.this

  49. F.... ....

Blue Moves and Capt. Fantastic two very under-rated albums, but imo two of his best. Excellence. Getting back to authenticity and touch. My man. EJ

    F.... ....

+Frankincensed Lots of Elton fans, myself included, rate Captain Fantastic his best. Blue Moves, an adventurous album, was highly thought of in France, at least.

    F.... ....

+Frankincensed Elton's and Bernie's autobiographical Captain Fantastic album is one of their best. Even the pinball game designed after the album was great. On the other hand, I have always thought Blue Moves was one of his lesser albums. As mizofan replied to you, I have to agree it was an adventurous album, but far from his best.

    F.... ....

+Frankincensed I'm with you. It's a matter of personal taste, and I too feel this is one of his best albums.
    :D

    F.... ....

Captain Fantastic is the greatest album in popular music history, should be more widely known, loved by many Elton fans, Blue Moves adventurous and excellent but a bit more divisive

  50. J.... ....

I have this album in pristine condition...a sleeper of and album this song is 1 of them. EJ may be playing the clarinet or the mellowtron keyboards on this though I may be wrong.
    Great song👏🎹
    ✌️2 ya

    J.... ....

Brro Ja49 omg Ron hi Colin on background vocals? he did partridge family vocals! and Toni tennille? best of the best!

    J.... ....

    Ron hicklin that is!

    J.... ....

Brro Ja49 I think you meant Clavinet. :-)

  51. S.... S....

Best arrangement Elton and Bernie ever did, in my opinion. Everything about rock, soul, church and deep background with strings bring it all together. And Toni Tennille, young people, listen up.

    S.... S....

+Sonny Smith No they can't, they dont know what a beat & rhythm and a "melody" is... Music is supposed to make you happy is a concept gone from today.....instead it's vulgarity, garish, with help from electronics. They are so cool they cant stand themselves or anybody. The noise or "Music" I hear @ the gas stations sounds like a funeral dirge. Dreary, depressing..... oh and LOUD . I can barely gas up. Yikes

    S.... S....

    Sonny Smith well said

  52. C.... K....

Mediocrity of Elton John is still miles above average.

  53. a.... e....

como pudieron hacer una ca nciontan penca

  54. a.... e....

Elton John te mandaste la media zorraaaaaraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  55. J.... L....

The band of musicians on this track are so tight you can't even slip a razor blade between them. Incredible song. Elton John was and is one of the greatest rock singers who ever held a microphone. This is superb.

    J.... L....

superb musician and best song composer in popular music history

    J.... L....

The microphone is suspended over the piano by a pole. He hasn’t got a third hand to hold it.

  56. J.... G....

Sir Elton John ha compuesto cientos de buenísimas canciones , no obstante, para mi gusto, "Crazy water" es la mejor de todas ellas. Un saludo a todos los internautas de Youtube en general y a los aficionados de Sir Elton en particular.

  57. R.... L....

I think that Crazy Water and Wide eyed and laughing are the two best songs on this album. this is like the album where he came out of the closet, what a bummer that day was many good albums afterward went overlooked

  58. t.... ....

Nice backing vocals by Toni Tennille (Captain and Tennille).

    t.... ....

    And Bruce Johnston!

  59. N.... ....

Crazy Water was a near-miss. Daryl Dragon's clavinet work is really good on this. It's too long though.

    N.... ....

So you’re both wrong (said with humor), it wasn’t Daryl and it was a Clavinet.

  60. C.... P....

Can't underestimate the powers of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It's like mixing chocolate mix in hot water.

  61. P.... ....

This album and this song don't get near enough attention.
