John, Elton - Billy Bones And The White Bird Lyrics
Take the wheel I hear the timbers creaking
Take the wheel I think this ship is sinking
Jamaica seems so far and I've been thinking
Old Billy Bones has gone to sea and quit his dockside drinking
And when I'm dead who'll fly the White Bird home
I'm not the ancient mariner your children know
And the sea's the field these old jack tars have sown
`Cause Billy Bones just wants to know who'll fly the White Bird home
Oh your majesty, your majesty
I heard the bosun cry
Old Billy Bones has washed ashore
Upon a foreign tide

John, Elton Billy Bones And The White Bird Comments
So many people have probably never heard this album, one of those ones you drop and everyone says “what’s this?”
CHECK IT OUT!!!
And when I'm dead who will fly the white bird home?????
Loved this album, the critics hated it. I used to blast this song when I was kid.
Rolling stone loved it....
Middle part is Sgt pepper
Captain Fantastic was much better.
fisterklister ok...but this is the thread for those who love "Rock of the Westies"..so, you can go to the Captain Fantastic thread and cheer about it's virtues. Or
You can just fuck off.
I think they're comparable. I dig 'em both, coz they're great! I even went to sea and quit my dockside drinkin'! 😎
The Bo Diddley beat. 👍
This is soooo intense for me. If I had the house to myself and could turn it way up, I'd probably be crying by the end. Sounds dumb, but ya.
I totally get it!!!! Yesssss!!!!
No, it ain't dumb. I DO crank it way up and rock out, to Rock of the Westies! This sound demands it! 😎
Magic😍

Loved this song. Loved this album. Don't know why the critics never liked this.

Elton,s best song on westies have it blasting at full volume yeah yeah
whenever I would play this song around my three year old nephew he would sing the "check it out" part.
Great LP. Brings me back to my senior year in high school. Great time with fantastic music.
Great track from a great album. The very first record I bought!!!
Surprisingly enduring song from Rock of the Westies. Good Recording/Uploading. The Bass Guitar is really thumping. Love the HD. Thanks

That bass guitar is a hallmark of the entire album. Kick ass stuff!
It's great! This song and Dan Dare are my favorites. Although, the entire album rocks! Davey Johnstone kicks ass on guitar, too. I always felt that this album was woefully underappreciated at the time. Needless to say, it was and remains in my album collection.
Good times. R.I.P. Roger Pope and Gus Dudgeon.
