John Anderson - 1959 Lyrics
Cigarettes were a quarter then
Bobby-socks and jeans were in
Elvis sang the songs that we loved so.
But the most important thing to us
Was keepin' gas in my old truck
I never will forget the day
That you and I went all the way
I was the first for you - and you for me.
I've still got the truck that we loved in
It takes me back there now and then,
Back to '59 my memory
And
Baby I'm yours
I'm gonna stand by you until the end of time
Remember all of the good things
That we shared together.
Signed - love Betty - 1959
Graduation finally came,
Uncle Sam called me away,
You married someone else while I was gone.
I kept your letters all these years
And I can't help but shed a tear
When I read the words you wrote me years ago.
Baby I'm yours
I'll love you always
I'm gonna stand by you until the end of time
Remember all of the good things
That we shared together
Signed - love Betty - 1959.

Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. lol What a ripoff song.
This is my favorite country song . Remember it well. I loved playing it in my 1955 chevy truck cruising around town. Miss that old truck. Would love to have another
So you sold your 1955 Chevy truck in the 1980s? LOL Ok. Well that was a huge mistake, wasn't it? What did you replace it with? Hehe. That's funny.
No brother it was the envy my two other friends had a 1967 chevy flair side and 1948 flair side we were the cool guys
John Anderson is one of the best... his songs bring you into them....
Love John Conlee 💯♥️❣️👍👍 Real Country 💯💜🌺❣️

John is a classic Duncan D, he can bend them guitar stranges for sure AAAAND moan the blues!
An all time great!! Class of '79'. Take me home country roads.
You can never depend on a woman's word!
After listening to a few of his early recordings I must admit that I had forgotten just how good John Anderson really was.
If distinctive voice is a sign of a great artist John is one of the greatest country artist to ever sing into a microphone. You dont need to see a video to know its him. Just a few lines of a song and BAM ! You know right away. I put him up there with Hag, Jones, Cash & Waylon.
вот это кантри чем старее тем лучьше

Love this song!
Talented musican!
His face looks like this really happened to him HUGS :(
Is it just me or does anybody else think that John looked a lot like Shawn Camp when he was clean-shaven???
Betty married me while you were gone, sorry.

I can see 22 idiot's checked in!
Love his kountry sound !!!!
Cigarettes were a quarter then
Bobby-socks and jeans were in
Elvis sang the songs that we loved so.
And the most important thing to us
Was keepin' gas in my old truck
So I could take us to the drive-in show.
The graduation finally came,
Uncle Sam called me away,
You married someone else while I was gone.
But I kept your letters all these years
And I can't help but shed a tear

Love listening to John Anderson's music. You know it's him when you hear him sing.
One of the all time greats of his time his songs make you feel and remember
Drinking songs
THIS is country gold
Always been one of my favorite country heroes
for all you wise guys who keep say he was born in 54, ya he was but it's just a song. it's not about him it's about some guy who comes home and remembers his life when he loved this girl in high school
1959,best year to be born
Betty was a whore.
This is not 59. He was born in 1954.
he doesn't look very old here???
Gah, so in love with his voice, ever since I was a little girl!
OhLeahLRae this was the first song I heard by him. Loved it immediately. Then the next my mom and I heard swinging. I have forever been hooked
AWESOME
I always thought this sounded a little like. “Straighten Ms Emily picture again”
dice341 that’s another great song and singer have that on my playlist
The verses are virtually musically identical to Me and Bobby McGee. You can sing the words to Bobby McGee right on top of this one. Not the chorus, but the main verses. Try it.
Great voice, pure country always..
Gary and John hit gold with this..and I don't mean just in the charts neither
1959 ? wow, I didn't think he was a singer back then !
is TITTLE SONG !!!!!

I like how people never read the comments before they post. Then they repeat the same thing over and over, it’s a song. Enjoy it! He’s not passing it off as a real life story. We all know he wasn’t 5 years old when this came out geeez!
Rip Uncle Hugh..I will see you soon..can't wait....
One of my favorite John Anderson songs.
Good good song..
Remîmber aul ‘v ð’ gûd þingz ðât we shærd tugêðer...

I read once that it was considered ridiculous to make a John Anderson tribute album, as his voice is so unique. The writer said that’s why there isn’t one. (Unless one has been made since then. Read that a couple years ago😊)
I don’t even know what to say- I guess “thanks” will have to do...
The year I was born.John Anderson is the best country singer I've ever seen.

Nowadays, a lot of listeners probably believe John Anderson was driving trucks and getting laid in 1959. In 1959, Anderson was 5. lol.
THE SONG IS CALLED 1959!!!!
Thank you john for ole school country and a melody...
great tune - would like to hear a Sisters Of Mercy/John Anderson 1959 mix-up.
John Anderson is the best............
OMG I didn't know about him before Seminole wind
Suzie Paris I dragged my coworker to Redding to see John, when he said ‘I love Seminole Wind.’ I said ‘This party started long b4 that.’ 😊 It’s hard being a JA fan. Our station is top 40 country. They don’t play John’s music. They don’t talk about his tours. I have to check the website constantly. It’s worth it. 1959 is my all time fave🌟🎶🎸
sunflowers28 I know he has soooo many great songs but this by far my favorite.... heck I didn’t know about goldmine album until about 8mo ago . I just bought it
seen him last week. at beacon theatre. awesome show
Some of you wise guys need to read titles or know a little bit about country music before you make ridiculous comments. SMH .
When I read the headline "John Anderson 1959" I thought it was a song he was singing in 1959! Lol, I thought something seemed odd. I didn't think he sang back in 1959, didn't think he was that old, and then I realized the title of the song is "1959." I've heard this one and several others but I guess I didn't realize it was the song title...

Try 1979. He was born in 1954, his first single “I’ve got a feeling” was released in 1977. In 59 he was 5 years old. In 69 he was 15. It’s really cool to post stuff like this. It’s not cool to post it with false information.

look at the description of the video, before commenting.
So do not mess up
1959 IS THE TITLE OF THE SONG
NOT the year it was published!
Yeah you dummy!
Omg ! So young !♡♡
Love his voice. John Anderson is essential classic country. He has a great collection of songs and hits.
Deblyn B - my point is why should we change the title , this new shit that call country is so terrible
Ramhag Ramhag That’s my point. County music is not what it used to be. John Anderson is the perfect example of excellent country music.
Deblyn B true , Merle Haggard , best of all time - total package ,,,,,,,, John Anderson says that as well
Ramhag Ramhag. I agree. Again he was “classic” or “pure” country music too.
His music is so intoxicating he truly is a story teller....
Out of 77....my second favourite year!
Got to have a beer with him one time when he was here in our small town . Great guy .

You sir, are sadly mistaken. Flori-DUH is the toilet of the nation. Locked in an eternal struggle with Texas for the worst state in the Union. I cannot wait for the ice caps to melt and wash Flori-DUH into the sea forever.
Cyber Bully fuck you. I'm from East Texas. Come bully me. I'm a old 60 old and I don't back down. Talk is cheap. If you don't like it what are you doing here..
Ok .what grate stat of America are you from.
Cyber Bully today Florida is, but when I was growing up in the late 60's and early 70's before the Yankees came down and ruined it by ripping out the trees and making it like, new York, Detroit and the other toilet Yankee cities. Answer me this, if Yankees love living in sewer like cities why didn't they stay up north instead of screwing up a once beautiful little state like Florida?
Wow,59 great song enjoyed #7 hit great
