Joe Jackson - Down To London Lyrics
Stop - what's that sound
It's the death rattle of this rusty old town
Stop - listen again
It's the sound of laughter all along the Thames
Do I have to stay here 'til the end of time
I'm - good lookin' and bright
I wanna see life after ten at night
So if they ask you where I am
I'm in the back of a Transit Van
In a squat on the Earls Court Road
Gone down to London turning coal into gold
Down to London - down to London
Gone down to London to be the king
Hey - what's your name
The boys back home all seem to look the same
You - should stick with me
and one of us will make it, just you see
Stop - what's that sound
Seems like the sixties are still swingin' around
Hey - can you hear me back there
or is there anybody left to care
So if you ask me where they are
They're hanging tough in a Soho bar
Playing guitars in the Underground
Gone down to London tryin' to chase that sound
Down to London - down to London
Gone down to London to be the king
So I ask you should I cry or laugh
Drinking tea in a Kings Cross Caff
A leather jacket against the cold
Gone down to London turning coal into gold
Down to London - down to London
Gone down to London to be the king

Joe Jackson Down To London Comments
One of all time greatest underrated musicians!
Love the Motown feel on this Smoking Joe number.
Saw Joe in Ann Arbor,Michigan like 5yrs ago 2nd time I saw him an as usual he was AWESOME!!!
Great example of Joe's songwriting craft.
IMHO Blaze of Glory was Joe's BEST album...and there are a lotta great albums of his that had to beat. I was fortunate enough to see him on the Glory tour, In Berkeley CA. Same band as in this vid and the lovely Joy Askew was tearin' it up live ! And of course Graham Maby. Brilliant.
Overall I think I'd agree, although there are many strong candidates to choose from.
Tomorrows World! A Great Album!
Great song, love the band.
Is that Dave Houghton on drums?
Gary Burke.
Simply awesome......🎸
Joy Askew...awesome singer!
Awesome!
👏🏻👏🏻💓
I've always had the biggest crush on him :)
Who is the female vocalist on Joe Jackson’s “ Down to London “ ??
Robert Krause - Joy Askew. Superb vocalist..👍
Superb rhythm and storytelling, and then there is the song ...
Always loved the simple, assertive drum fill at 2:48.
...in the undergreund, si'... perfetto londinese... ah ah ah... simpaticissimo dialetto che ricordo ancora un poco...
A fantastic song and one of his best - I just love the way that the girl tells him to "f*** o**" at 3.07, you need to be able to lip-read to get it.
Actually, I think, she is saying, "Why don't you fuck off!", but yeah: good catch, Stephen.
I think it's "Okay, look, why don't you just fuck off?"
just thought of stacy london...another gemini charmer
is this one 60's crowd, and the other 80's? Always loved this song! And loved the 60's & 80's!
Sushi..!!!! Was living in Japan when this came out. Happy memories....

Down to London keeps me a wondorin,, this sure is great, tonight I will be going to bed late. I will do my part even though I am an old fart...
Never seen this video, always loved the song.
Great song, and great video, with Joe Jackson looking most happy. Also nice to see Joy Askew featured so prominently. She has a wonderful voice.
Simply a genius musician!
Thanks for uploading this. One of m y all time Joe Jackson songs
Very human, very 'non stare like'. Just lovely, thank you.
a musical genius
i've got a mk2 transit van (in bits at the moment) but I still think Joe is a bloody genius & like him, I enjoy smoking cigarettes !!
Possibly the only song to mention the much maligned Ford Transit.
"Fake harmonica" has to be the most hilarious instrument credit yet. I'm wondering if he did that on keyboards, just like how it was with the "harmonica" we heard on Tina Turner's 1984 smash "What's Love Got to Do With It?"
+ClassicTVMan1981X not a real harp? learn something new(hopefully) everyday! Cheers
Love JJ!!!
One of the greatest songwriters of all time!
Without a shadow of doubt! - Amazing man
Una grande canzone e un grande video (very great song and very great videoclip!).
