Joe Jackson - Blaze Of Glory Lyrics
Johnny was a young boy
with nothing much except a certain kind of look in his eye
He was discovered one day - you see he had a certain kind of appeal
for a certain kind of guy
Who gave him some advice on what to wear
And all the young boys who'd just been dumb and restless
now they could identify
So tell me who'll take the blame
for the way things turned out
Well six long months passed and Johnny was the biggest thing alive
And we loved Johnny and we owned Johnny
and no one knew how Johnny felt inside
And Johnny was so beautiful, he was like a god
And the ride started to go too fast
and Johnny just conveniently died
And he went up in flames
He did what he had to do
And they say it's a tragic story
he just wasn't there one day
but he went out in a Blaze of Glory
and you and I - you and I just fade away
Well nowadays there's a lot of guys like Johnny
they got it all worked out - like working 9 to 5
But they're all just cartoons - all think they're Superman
but they can't even fly
And they say that Johnny's ghost walks 'round in Memphis
when the moon is full and high
And I wonder if he sees these jokers
and I wonder if he laughs or if he cries
Now he's an angel in flames
But what about you and me
And they say it's a tragic story
he just wasn't there one day
but he went out in a Blaze of Glory
and you and I - you and I just fade away

Joe Jackson Blaze Of Glory Comments
Of course, we know that this song is really about the James Deans and Elvis Presleys who were gone too soon. JJ is not only a musical chameleon, he is also one of the keenest observers of the human condition since Shakespeare. Combined, these elements make the compound of his genius.
👍👍👍👍
Remain "19 forever ", then go out in " a blaze of glory "
This is about Johnny Manziel.
You and I just fade away . . .
Exactly.....That's the effing truth unfortunately....Damn....Will turn 62 in 2 months...Not a good feeling......
@Burt472 remain " 19 forever " then go out in a "blaze of glory "
He has usually great lyrics.......let alone the music
I've been listening to Joe Jackson for over 30 years. Think I've heard all of his greatest songs then I'll run across a new one, like this. Pure genius. Easily the most under rated, under appreciated artist out there. Should be in the rock hall of fame.
I agree many people dont realize the incredible talant that joe has. his contributions to the world of music throughout his career are astonishing
3:54... Still haunts me...Magic!!!
Brilliance. Love this song.
great melodist ......
Can't find a video of this song live anywhere. Can't even find any "concert" videos where he played this song in concert. Why?
superbe album de Jo Jackson !!
total classic.
The arrangement is awesome in this album.
Hopes to see him at the Montreal Jazz fest July 4th....what a great labum
Lonesome Larry Rhodes
a musical genius
Moves me...I'm getting old
Me too😀
Saw him at Hammersmith Odeon on this tour - and yes, they played the whole album - in the middle of the show. Such a pro, such a talent, love JJ!
Any one know the guitar tab for this song? THanks.
Awesome.
To be a fan of JJ, one must maintain a flexibility of outlook and be prepared to appreciate a diversity of musical ideas. That said, I've always felt "Beat Crazy" was his masterpiece. Funny how songs from that album are in short supply on YouTube....
@slickvguy I know it very well
@sostakovic Double album. Live. Not a single weak song. Quite a few masterpieces. Mindboggling.
The Whole Album is a piece to be proud of
i miss good music. Wish it wasn't made by record companies, college educated rich kids!!!!!!!!!!!

i miss good music
loved this song since a kid, where i got the username from
I saw his blaze of glory tour and thought it would be kind of lame...I'd never heard any of the songs before, I like to hear songs that I know damn it. It was one of the best concerts I ever saw. Had to go out and buy it.
I did catch this tour, it was HOLEYCRAP fantastic, I remember everyone really was into it, girls even took off their shirts and danced like crazy during the faster numbers (not nude though silly!). Very amazing to witness, really a high point in music. That was in 1989 and I can't stop listening to this record...amazing....

I saw this tour on a steamy summer night in Albany NY. In over forty years of live shows, this was the best concert I ever saw
Simply Magnificent. Joe is a Great Musician who is largely under-estimated imo.
@tiefhals I DID see the Blaze Of Glory tour, and it was AMAZING! I took a Greyhound up to Sacramento from L.A. to see it, because I couldn't make it to the L.A. show. There were definitely more empty seats at that show than I've ever seen at a concert. Ten minutes before show time, I thought there might be more people on stage than in the audience. Joe mentioned the small turnout, and said that they would've played even if there were just ONE person there! They performed the ENTIRE album!
Thanks for posting! I caught the Laughter and Lust tour -- which was great, of course -- but I sure would have liked seeing the Blaze of Glory tour...as BoG is my fave JJ and, as noted earlier, criminally underappreciated. I must look to see if anyone has posted "Evil Empire" on YT (maybe you have, Darth)
I'm so glad you saw L&L tour. Was in 1992 (Perth, Western Australia). I had front row seats in a small theatre. (circa 2,500). That was my 2nd greatest concert performance. 1st was Led Zeppelin in Perth, 1972. Mindy is gone RIP. Loved seeing her guitar strokes during 19 Forever. Jo looked into my eyes and I turned away. Later he looked again and I looked back - you can have me Joe. There is a series of Joe's Aussie tour on YouTube. Love ya Joe . . .
I tend to agree, by far my fav Joe album....but Laughter and Lust as well as Big World are superb in their own right.
Joe Jackson is my favourite songwriter. "Blaze of glory" is one of his best album for sure, again with "Night and day" (1982), "Night music" (1994), "Rain" (2008), "Symphony no 1" (1999), "Body and soul" (1984) e "Beat crazy" (1980).
I've been looking for the song evil empire for ages, could you (if able an willing) please post it aswell?thx for this one in any case was wondering when someone would put this up,great song !
I hadn't heard that in a long time ... wow thanks for this.
