Joe Cocker - The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress Lyrics
See her as she flies
Golden sails across the skies
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon can be so cold
Once the sun did shine
And Lord it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pine
And then the darkness fell
The moon's a harsh mistress
It's hard to love her well
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face, yes I did
And I tripped and I missed my star
And I fell and fell alone
The moon's a harsh mistress
The sky is made of stone
The moon's a harsh mistress
She's hard to call your own

Joe Cocker The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress Comments
Breaks my heart 💔 so beautifully with every impeccable note.
What a beautiful song , Joe was the man of many vices but had a voice like no other... ✌️
JOE COCKER . . . . . A MASTER AT WORK . . . . . RIP
I fell alone too
Hard to see with salt water in your eyes.
never knew he did this. how beautiful... many sides to his wonderful talent
I keep forgetting how good he was .I bought this album when I was 14 and still love it .He had an amazing ability to cover songs that just nail it Wow what a voice
There are many versions of this song, but Joe, and his backing team, simply nailed it.
Sorry Joan, (not PC in this Age of shit faced Stupidity) but this is a song for a male singer.
Please will someone bring back the 1970s.
OK, we lived under the threat of Cold War anihilation, but at least we lived.
Agree 70s music was unbelievable
Any singer who hears this version while contemplating recording a cover must suddenly develop serious doubts about doing it unless they don't mind putting out a 2nd rate cover.
I just re-discovered this classic tune, watching a wonderful doc. on Joe Cocker just tonight! I am now 55 and Joe was a wonderful soul as everyone said, a WILD " Mate " too for much of his first 50 of his 69 years !
Baby boomers liked bad singers. Joe, Rod Stewart, Kim Carnes, Stevie Nicks, Marianne Faithful, Tom Waits...
Poetic soul, beyond words. Thanks Joe for all you gave so many. You will never be forgotten.
This whole album was amazing. I feel it is one of the most under rated lps ever.
The greatest interpreter of of other folk's songs in past 50 years & a true man of the.people

JOE COCKER . . . . . . A MASTER AT WORK . . . . . . RIP
Can’t stop listening to this heartbreaking masterpiece, please (don’t) save me.
One of your Best, Joe. We miss you...
Love this...so much. <3
IMHO probably his best ballad taking into account the year it was recorded Cocker was going through a very hard time, I think it's the best performance of this Jimmy Webb's song
It's great to hear Joe sing this song, and then follow that up with Judy Collin's version - but so well done in their own way!
Outstanding!
Jimmy Webb's favourite song.
gets to me every time. no one did it like joe...
Radka Toneff's version is just as good. Some thinks it's better.
It's a Jimmie Webb song, and Webb is playing piano on this. I think this is the definitive version of the song. Everything else sounds pretty flat in comparison. Webb's masterpiece.
Listen to Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden's version
Radka Toneff don't sound flat. Both Joe and Radka us nailing this song. They are both very emotional.
I'd agree - Cocker's voice captures something else. At the same time, there's always Glen - his version on "Glen Campbell in session with Jimmy Webb."
Glen Campbell and Linda Ronstadt
linda ronstadt also
Thank you for posting,,,RIP Joe
