Joe Cocker - Darling Be Home Soon Lyrics

Come
And talk of all the things we did today
Here
And laugh about our funny little ways
While we have a few minutes to breathe
Then I know that it's time you must leave

But darling be home soon
I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled
My darling be home soon
It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled
For the great relief of having you to talk to

And now
A quarter of my life is almost past
I think I've come to see myself at last
And I see that the time spent confused
Was the time that I spent without you
And I feel myself in bloom

So darling be home soon
I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled
My darling be home soon
It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled
For the great relief of having you to talk to

[Instrumental break]

Darling be home soon
I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled
My darling be home soon
It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled
For the great relief of having you to talk to

Go
And beat your crazy head against the sky
Try
And see beyond the houses and your eyes
It's ok to shoot the moon

So darling
My darling be home soon
I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled
My darling be home soon
It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled
For the great relief of having you to talk to

A beautiful song , with the Great Leon Russell on keyboards. Reminds me of a woman I loved once , as songs sometimes do.

  8. B.... D....

Saw him on the Mad Dogs and Englishman tour awesome concert by a great Band with the most animated singer i had ever seen :) RIP Joe what a talent

  9. j.... l....

Fine cover of John Sebastain's classic song. Joe was one of a kind. He will always be missed.

  10. D.... M....

This was our song when we were 20....now here we are 62....and still love this song. Joe you are a legend of Rock & Roll blues and ballads.

  11. s.... l....

I'm glad I don't have to choose between him & John Sebastian. I'll just enjoy both versions.

  12. f.... 1....

go on and beat your crazy head against the sky.

  13. H.... ....

Did I hear him sing "heal" and not "here" after "come, and talk of all the things we did today". If so, nice variation on the original lyric, actually works better.

  14. M.... M....

    We loved you Joe.

  15. t.... m....

Talk to me, just talk to me !!!!!!!!!!!

  16. d.... b....

His music has always made me feel nostalgic, I don't know why, fast or slow..I think about my life, my family and my past. The greatest interpreter of music ever.

In memory of My beautiful Mam🌹♥️

  20. R.... T....

Cocker's cover of McCartney's "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" was better, for me, than the original by the Beatle. this cover of John Sebastian's song flat out sucks

  21. m.... w....

    Joe Cocker died?

  22. R.... H....

Best artist ever from Yorkshire. RIP Joe, we miss you fantastic voice full of soul. What a rare talent.

  23. T.... B....

  24. J.... E....

John Sebation is a really good writer and was great on this song but Joe I'm sure makes him proud

  25. B.... D....

Joe,Leon, and the gang, sorely missed and the indisputable best ever live music experience ever.

  26. B.... B....

this is a beatiful version, but I think the slade did the definitive one. It`s just to desperate, kind of a feel of loss. This one is a lot more happier. But beatiful version nonetheless.

  27. B.... D....

A kid growing up in North Jersey hears this tune and........ magic, who could sing like this?

I could have always done without the backup singers on this one. Otherwise, one of his best.

    k.... ....

If you had ever seen Joe live the backup singers always highlighted his performance, as they do here. You missed it.

    Battista carta

  41. V.... F....

I had to send this to my forever darling. It's powerful.

  42. M.... A....

John Sebastian wrote a great song, performed it well, but Joe took it to a completely different level. Like what Chris Farlowe would do with Stones tunes. You'd never go back:):)

  43. c.... ....

Great cover, except the female chorus that feels annoying and "over-arranged" in such intimate song.

  44. A.... A....

one of the best Cocker songs ever, love, love it

  45. J.... D....

    WOW PASSION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. G.... B....
