This track was well before it's time but I appreciate her keeping it real & rearing everything back to reality at that time in the early '90's

I love this version but the thing that I thought kicked a** about this song was that the remixes included a version Jody recorded called "When A Man Loves A Man" - almost identical lyrics but about gay relationships instead of straight.  Both versions are poignant.  Props and much love for having the courage to record both versions so many years ago when it was still taboo to even suggest gay marriage. Thank you, Jody. :)

This song was very innovative and empowering. In fact Jody said that it her daughter was the inspiration for this song. She said that one day her daughter was watching videos and asked mommy why do women be showing their behinds in videos? Jody wrote that song shortly afterwards

I mean listen to the lyrics, AIDS, womes empowerment, addressing domestic violence and self respect was and will never be Top 40. The on slaught of rumpshaking new jack swing and misoginy in the 90s was on the rise.I believe Jody made a conscious decision to keep it real stay true to herself and leave the commercial pop behind for her reasons. Loved the video and message then and now.

if the video wouldve been better prodcued then the song may have went to the top 5 on the r&b charts which wouldve help it crossover a little more on the pop charts because the song alone is extremely hot. how i miss the 80's+early 90's hip hop vids (although i wouldn't really classify this tune as hip-hop). They aspired to racial equality, had an innocence about them, and felt positive. also, the dances and clothing were refreshing.

@kbw1970 Jody made a wise business move in the 90s and started her own independent record label (Avitone) where she has complete control on both sides (as an artist and entrepreneur). Her record sales now don't have to be in the millions because the majority of the money isn't going to pay lawyers, executives and accountants...she can sell in the range of 100K and make just as much as an artist who sells 1 million copies of one CD.

@stanleyballard I've never heard any songs she had out in 2006, that's why I have always considered this one her last major hit. Good thing she was still handling her business that late though.

@kbw1970 This was not one of her last hits...this came from her last CD while working on MCA...before she started her own label in the 90s. Her last hit was off of the 2006 "The Makeover" CD...one of the songs was the remake of "I Want Your Love" and "Borderline".

This was one of her last solo hits but it delivered the best message and by far the funkiest beat!
