Jimmy Reed - Take Out Some Insurance Lyrics

If you were to leave me baby
Say you won't be back
That would be the end of me
'Cause I'd have a heart attack

You better get some insurance on me, baby
Take out some insurance on me, baby
'Cause if ya ever, ever, said goodbye
I'm gonna haul right off and die

Darlin' an I will I love you
Long as I got breath
If we part I know sweetheart
It would worry me ta death

You better get some insurance on me, baby
Take out some insurance on me, baby
But if you ever, ever said goodbye
I'm gonna haul right off and die

Don't get no sick, an accident
'Cause I'm healthy as can be
Now if ya got any sense
You'd take the hint
And get a 'paid life', on me

You don't know me, baby
Like I know myself
I couldn't live if you should give
All your love ta someone else

Ya better get some insurance on me, baby
Take out some insurance on me, baby
'Cause if ya ever, ever say goodbye
I'm gonna haul right off an die

This single, and the other side, "String To Your Heart" are the only 2 Jimmy Reed cuts without a harp break. My guess is he forgot his harp or harp holder that day in the Vee Jay studio.

the low number of views is criminal!

    R.... J....

Exactly. Jimmy Reed should be a mandatory school subject, like English and Maths.

    R.... J....

Count the two of us among the very fortunate cognoscenti, my friend.

    R.... J....

    Lowrider music.

    R.... J....

Share share share sweetie! The more you share the more you teach...some people dont have a clue about this epic music genre. Also, so many dont realize a huge number of,the greatest singers and rock bands got their stylings snd inspiration from listening to this music! Even Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eddy VanHalen , and Elvis were crazy about Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe and many more of the early blues singers, R&B had been around before they ever shit in their first diaper. This music needs a huge revival. BB King was one of my favorites and msn I dug the, hell outta Muddy Waters as,a kid! That music spoke tp me! Sam Cookes Bring it on Home to me is a real favorite of mine. I dont play well, I love a guitar, I have an acoustic but Im not real good atcit. But give me a mic and I will sing like crazy! So happy to see a few here, but if you share this and share it more than once, its gonna touch somebody somewhere. FB is a great place to start! Peace out!!!

    R.... J....

@pantograph count me in! Share to educate!!!

  34. T.... L....

He was tops in the south !

    T.... L....

He was big in LA too.. among the "Low Riders".

    T.... L....

Big in Kansas City,too-we used to listen to him a lot in the early '60's.

    T.... L....

Porky Chewick played him in Pittsburgh. We blues fans made sure of that. The first place I heard him though was on WLAC late at night.

  35. j.... ....

    cool as

  36. f.... ....

Thanks João Pedro - it sounded familiar!

  37. L.... ....

One of my favorites.  Just happened to buy a marked down album without knowing how good he was (wow).  Love the way he says those words.

  38. B.... S....

That line "I'm gonna haul right off and die" really gets to me, considering...

  39. T.... J....

jimmy reeed is that dude...  he basically told the chick that he would kill her and dip...

    T.... J....

No he didn't. He said he would die, so she should get insurance on him so she would benefit from his death.

    T.... J....

    @Chris Dravers dravers
And that's what makes Jimmy Reed superior to Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester (aside from him having a more mesmerizing voice). He never wrote or sang a song about murdering his SO, whereas the other two sang My Home Is A Prison (I think Slim Harpo sang it, first). Even though I do like those artists, too - don't get me wrong.

Also, Sonny Boy Williamson II sang Your Funeral and My Trial - and then Pat Hare has the incredibly blatant murder ballad called I'm Gonna Murder My Baby, and then later actually followed through on it. I can't even listen to Pat Hare because of that.

    T.... J....

    @luvsavengedsevenfold
Oops, my mistake! I guess he did have one with Shoot My Baby. I'm kinda hoping his wife was the one who wrote that song. Well, I know those type of songs are fairly common in blues music - and, from all accounts, Jimmy Reed was a loving and friendly guy. A bit disappointed by that song, but he's still a cool guy.

    T.... J....

+luvsavengedsevenfold So it would be okay if his wife wrote it? Double standard...?

    T.... J....

Well, not really - because Jimmy would still be the one singing it. Since then, I figured that he was probably just taking the piss out of those type of blues songs - because of how he sings it.

  40. c.... ....

Refreshing comments on this page.   Some pages are whacked with the comments and arguments.  Blues is good stuff!!  Jimmy Reed was so good, I also like Big Boss man by him.

    c.... ....

Went out and bought Live at Carnegie Hall recorded 1961, masterpiece- Jimmy was a huge influence for the Beatles- Stones- Clapton etc..., hell
    Rock and Roll
    as a whole
influenced by the GREAT Jimmy Reed. Big Boss Man indeed!

    T.... L....

You know it! Many of todays young people are starting to really learn these early artists. Im impressed whenever I see 20+year olds talkin about the early artists. They have such a passion for music and if you dont listen to this early r&b and just plain ol blues music one will never learn how to perfect their stylings.

    T.... L....

First heard this in the movie "Diner" and went a little crazy. :))))
