Jimmy Reed - Little Rain Lyrics

A little rain fallin', a little clock keep away the time
A little rain fallin', the little clock keep away the time
Well now, a little rain keep a-fallin', on this little love of mine

Little flowers bloomin', the little birds keep a-singin' tune
The little flowers bloomin', little birds keep-a singin' tune

I would like to love ya baby, underneath the shinin' moon

  4. H.... F....

I bought my first Jimmy Reed album in 1959. I will never forget his music.

  5. b.... d....

    Incredible.

  6. v.... c....

Pure magic and highly addictive --- maybe the best blues song and cut ever - --- this one I can listen to over, and over, and over

  7. D.... C....

Pure magic. The Stones also cover it very well on their latest album

  8. S.... F....

Jimmy Reed was the master of suspense. His lazy drawling blues are hypnotic. That high note harp hits frequencies only dogs can hear & that slow insidious shuffle worms it's way into the collective consciousness. Had the privilege of seeing him at his best in Hammersmith when he blew us all away - & his worst the following night at Fairfield Hall in Croydon when his manager failed to keep him off the bottle. A little booze & he was on fire - too much & he was pathetic. Hammersmith stays in my memory as one of the all time great blues gigs. The harp solo on Honest I Do was electrifying. At his best Jimmy was a fantastic bluesman but frequently the consumption of alcohol rendered him hopeless & I guess it took him in the end...

    S.... F....

I had the same experience; best and worst, but there is some evidence now that undiagnosed epilepsy caused some of his more erratic behaviour and that he may even have used alcohol on occasions to keep his seizures at bay. Whatever, I still love his music, which can sound deceptively simple - until someone else attempts to cover it.

  9. p.... m....

    What a fanastic tempo!

  10. S.... H....

Great song , where can I find the tabs?

  11. B.... A....

This is not the original single version (which was better than this because it was perfect).

  12. J.... E....

I want to second jimmyreedblues65. I love this song, and for me the best version is the vee jay

  13. J.... M....

Yes love that slow sexy bet *

  14. M.... M....

I'm going to be technacal,  The Actual version of Little Rain that the Stones would have listened to, would be the  first release of this song on Vee Jay 7 inch # 237, Or off the album I'm Jimmy Reed. The original release did not have a second chorus after the harmonica solo. This verse was not released until the mid 1980's. Don't believe me, Do the research.

    M.... M....

The timing, pacing of the vocal on this alternate take is not nearly as effective as on the single. I have the 45, and have had it since it came out in the 50's.

  15. J.... S....

    Thanks Captn Keef

  17. B.... M....

Many of us are grateful to Keith for directing us to Reed in his adventurous autobiography. I would now urge all of you to pick up a copy of Reed's biography too. Just like the lives of other blues greats, it is full of the blues and little anecdotes behind all major hits. For instance, the slightly out of time tapping in this song is actually Jimmy tapping with his feet.
The book is entitled "Big Boss Man - The Life & Music of Bluesman Jimmy Reed.
    Cheers.

    B.... M....

Jimmy is tapping his foot behind time for effect, not out of time. Remember that he also sings, plays guitar and harp on the track, so there is no way he could be out of time.

    B.... M....

Jimmy is tapping perfectly in time.

  18. j.... p....

i try to sing that around the house the other day, and the canary threw itself to the cat.

  19. j.... p....

nice play that harp like a nude girl... real sweet

  20. C.... W....

Same here. Keith had it right!

  21. P.... ....

Haunting music. Everything about it weaves a spell: the sensual lyric, the lilting vocal, the gentle guitar, the piercing harp (another kind of high lonesome?!), the pulse like a loud raindrop. The great Jimmy Reed, such a stylist: how many other artists, blues or otherwise, are so instantly recognizable, within a single measure (4 beats)? Thank you for making this available.

    P.... ....

Nice comment, captures the feel of this unusual unique Jimmy Reed cut. And you're right about him being recognizable with a single measure.

    P.... ....

@Steve Sewall John Lee Hooker's "No Shoes" is in a major, not minor, key but the lyrics are also haunting.

  22. P.... ....

    A brilliant and incisive comment.

  23. p.... ....

that deserves another hit and a replay

  24. R.... C....

Came here for the same reason. Keith says they listened to a lot of JR in the early days. Before they found their way. I see why. Sounds very "Stonish."

    R.... C....

    Fuck that.

  25. J.... N....

    i hear it

  26. F.... ....

Funny thing, that is exactly what I just did. The last words I read was "but you try "Little Rain."

  27. c.... ....

Cierto, obviamente es una interpretacion nomas, pero creo que es una de las unicas de este tema.

  28. a.... ....

Saludos!!

  30. z.... ....

Thanks Keef to talk about JR in his book

  31. N.... ....

ALWAYS perfect. He had a song for every feeling,,,seems like. Precious to me. And to so many others Im sure. Hugs and thanks and keep up the great work. (subbed ya! xx)

  32. s.... ....

  33. v.... ....

Is it just me or does someone say "devil" at the 1:04/1:05 mark?

    v.... ....

    vbrockladyv - Yep.

    v.... ....

    You heard right.

  34. J.... D....

Just read a line in Keith Richards' "Life" bio mentioning this song... Richards was a great admirer of Reed's 5 chord, "In a way, we admired him more for that than his playing. It was the attitude. And also the very haunting songs. They might be based on a seemingly simplistic bedrock, but you try "Little Rain." So, I had to know what Richards was talking about and now my brain is exploding!!! Thanks for the upload!!!

  35. r.... c....

    geat song

  36. a.... ....

Solamente aparecen dos vídeos con esta canción en youtube. Es un gran misterio para mí que no aparezcan más, porque es una canción soberbia. Tampoco veo que haya versiones de otros, lo cual me llama todavía más la atención.

  37. J.... C....

One of the greatest blues songs of all-time!
(What an honor to write this comment
next to a post by Jimmy Reed's son)

  38. T.... ....

This was one of my father's favorite records. Thanks for uploading it.
