Jimmy Reed - Going To New York Lyrics
Goin' to New York
Get on New York quiz show
Gotta win myself some all-a-that dough
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk
I been down south
You know I been out east
I been out west, but I'm not gonna rest
'Til I get to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk
I've been here 'n I've been there
Honey, I been some-a of ev'rywhere
But I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk

Jimmy Reed Going To New York Comments
I’m going to New York in a few hours
First thing I get when I listen to this song is just how much of an influence Jimmy Reed must have been to Steve Miller.
This takes me way way back as I know as a tiny child I have heard this before. I believe this voice goes to a tune I loved and remembered as a child. Do not know the title just the harmony.
here's a cool rendition of one of his numbers: https://youtu.be/IYa7Q9apjPM
love this song!
U know it haad to be good Ive got 9 sisters
Master of feeling and subtlety
Two minutes of genius. You don't need a ten-minute screaming guitar solo.
Bang on brother
Really love his soft vocal style in this song. Seriously, anyone who thinks all blues music sounds like Albert King really needs to give Jimmy Reed a listen. So sad that he's no longer with us! :'(
True dat but Albert King was fucking great also in another way but you make an excellent point about the rich diversity in Blues Music!
If Jimmy could have left the bottle alone, there is no telling how famous he could have been.
It is very sad what happened to him - but, at least, he was usually a happy drunk... rather than an angry drunk. From all accounts I've heard of him, he was a very nice guy and a loving father. I think Howlin' Wolf was much more temperamental than Jimmy Reed was, actually.
I just got an email that someone replied to our comments, and they seem to have misunderstood what we meant. I wasn't judging Jimmy Reed - and I'm sure you weren't, either. We were just mentioning what an unfortunate state of affairs it was. He had epilepsy, too - and, back then, people didn't know much about epilepsy.
I'll say one thing, though. I would take a drunk Jimmy Reed over a sober Donald Trump, any day!!
do you remember Jimmy Reed from the old days on 33rd street, the music that drove Mrs.Palmer crazy.
mercy, mercy! happenin', shall we say.
Oh happy day
From New Jersey to New York--a trip of 10,000 miles--with Jimmy's help.
I don't know who his drummer was but he really uses his cymbals dramatically. The Rolling Stones apparently noticed: listen to Charley Watts on the Stones' cover of Honest I Do from their England's Newest Hitmakers album.
I'm a drummer & noticed that immediately.....good ear
The drummer on this track is Earl Phillips.
john hammond jr did this song on an lp where charlie and bill played it was called I CAN TELL
