Jimmy Dean - The Cajun Queen Lyrics

She kinda breezed into town from New Orleans
And said, "Boys, I'm Big John's Cajun Queen
Now I didn't come here to argue or waste anybody's time
I just came to get my man from your dirty old mine
'Cause he moves me"

"Now where you give up's where old Queenie's gonna start
'Cause I got a powerful love in my heart
So just show me the hole way down in the ground
And tell the whole wide world Big John's been found
And he's livin'"

So down in the mine without a sign of a light
Old Queenie went a-lookin' for John that night
She found him there at the bottom of the pit
And placed a red hot kiss on those cold blue lips
He started breathin'

She waited a minute and then she kissed him again
And old John got the power of a hundred men
Up he come a-clawin' and a-diggin' like a mole
And said, "Come on Queenie, we're gonna leave this hole"
They started walkin'

Now a roar from the crowd greeted this fine pair
As they both walked out in that cool night air
And up for silence went Big John's hand
And the Queen said, "I told you I'd get my man
'Cause he moves me"

You can find them today, they're down in New Orleans
Big Bad John and his Cajun Queen
They're a little bit wrinkled from the strain of time
But their love's just as strong as that night in the mine
A hundred and ten grandchildren

Now the moral of this story
Has a real clear omen
Don't you ever underestimate
The power of a woman

For some reason I, and I am not country at all, think Jimmy Deal is cool as hell. I'm saving up to get me a stetson just like his. And a sweet Cajun Queen, cuz it moves me.

  3. M.... S....

Back in late 60s a friend had this 45
Years later something brought that term up “ It moves me “ and where it came from. I told them it was used in the Jimmy Dean Cajun Queen sequel tune to Big John and also used by Elvis in the original ‘ Milk Cow Blues Boogie ‘ ( Hold it fellas, that don’t move me. Let’s get real gone for a change )

    a.... m....

I grew up listening to this one (and BBJ) on that Best Hits album.

  25. A.... S....

I have fun listening to this one, over and over. I love Jimmy Dean. He also was an actor on that show, Daniel Boone. Very smart gifted fellow.
Listen to the words, he puts women in the proper perspective. You'll want to hear it over and over again too, just for the storyline. Alot of songs back from that time were old folk songs, that told a story, all being "tall tales". Enjoy.

    A.... S....

In James Bond - Diamonds Are Forever he played multimillionaire Willard White

  37. D.... d....

  41. F.... K....

Horrible sequel to a great song.

    F.... K....

Frank Kelch unvarnished truth. It could have been a great sequel to the original story. Instead: he mooooooooooooooooooves me. What is this crap? And why would JD choose this kind of tone after the heroic but somber ending of the original?

  42. L.... B....

"Don't you ever underestimate the power of a Woman" 💋

  47. M.... B....

just came across this today, I like it, it does not ruin the first song, big john was not a loner til he got kicked out of New Orleans for getting in a fight over a cajun queen, obviously it was this cajun queen in the song

    M.... B....

Michelle Benoit she loved him 2 bits

  48. P.... V....

This song has really grown on me. Almost as good as Big Bad John.

  49. D.... E....

I like "Little Bitty Big John" better - it's on the Bear Family records CD along with the mono 'cuss' version of BBJ - "One hell of a man, Big John".

  50. s.... ....

Big bad John is gonna get some

    s.... ....

    your right about that

  51. m.... ....

EGAD....you people are reading WAAAAAYY too much into this..... the song is quite simply a tribute to the power of love that a woman has for her man.....and as for coming back from the dead,I can cite you numerous examples of people who were clinically dead, only to be brought back from the other side because they heard their loved ones call out to them..... just enjoy the song for what it is,guys.... another fine piece of art from a true country legend.

    m.... ....

Big John's wife must have know some good old voodoo....she raised her man again...better to love a zombie than to never have your guy...or she's into to dead men, who knows.

    m.... ....

    musicman201047 azxdr/67

    m.... ....

mark kropka Reminds me Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. Ironically, the main character named John. So it’s hard to get the best of the man named John.

    m.... ....

To be fair, she is from New Orleans, which was pretty well known for voodoo practices back in the day. Or so I've heard.

    m.... ....

musicman201047 she’s a “Cajun Queen” from New Orleans which was where Cajun voodoo was commonly practiced. The masters of voodoo are called Queen. Coupled with the fact that Big John has obviously been dead for a while, the inscription on top, it is not a leap to say that Big John is some kind of undead creature.

  52. J.... ....

Obviously Big John is now a voodoo zombie.

  53. 0.... ....

I never liked this one, John was an outsider and loner, he never was close to his fellow workers yet he gave his life to save them...''Big Bad John'' never said whether or not John chose to stay away from his coworkers or if he tried and they were too intimidated by him to ever get to know him or if they just avoided him altogether but either way it showed he wasn't just a big man but that he had an even bigger heart, the song was a testament to how the most heroic and selfless acts can come from the seemingly most unlikely places. I think Jimmy bringing him back this way made a mockery of his heroism, he should have let Big John rest in peace... Of course I know it's just a song Jimmy sang but there's a lot of truth in it about human nature, whether he meant for it to be just a song or something deeper, I haven't a clue, that's just what I got from it.

    0.... ....

    110 grandchildren etc

    0.... ....

I heard the mine owners said they would give big John $20.00 if he went down there and got them there miners out. With that 20 bucks he could then send for his women. You think?

    0.... ....

0pnMnded 0pnMnded yes that's true but the Cajun "Queen" comes into play in the original, it's used to explain why he came to town to work in the coal mine, "Somebody said he came from New Orleans where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen and a crashin' blow from a huge right hand sent a Louisiana fella to the promised land, Big John"

    0.... ....

    She didn't come.
It was just his life flashing before his eyes in the moments before he died.

    0.... ....

    Ca$h grab $equel after Dean'$ $urpri$e #1. Be$t ignored and ea$ily forgotten.

  54. A.... A....

obviously y'all don't understand this story. His wife went down into the mine to die alongside him. She kissed him as she died beside him.

    A.... A....

Such was the power of their love

    A.... A....

+Tc Cooley III Maybe if he left if at 'She kissed his cold blue lips' I would have agreed with you, but seeing as he went on to describe him getting up, walking out, being cheered by the crowd then proceeding to have a hundred grandchildren I would have to take it more literally. As it stands, I believe that the story of Big John isn't as metaphorical as you want it be.

    A.... A....

+GuruJudge21 Dingus the man was religious, it's symbolic for heaven. You'd need a lot of time to have 100 grandchildren and heaven is timeless to those who believe in it.

    A.... A....

I am actually happy to have this controversy to argue opposing philosophical points of view rather than the current argument over "santa baby".

  55. B.... ....

I just found this song. I think it ruins the original _Big Bad John_ and takes away from the sadness and mystery of John.

    B.... ....

Bournefort I agree. It was better when he sacrificed himself to save other. Its way to magical when she brings him back from the dead

    B.... ....

Nick Meckfessel more magical than when a man lifted up an entire mine?

    B.... ....

I agree that destroying the mythos does take away from the sacrifice. I can only tolerate it in terms of: she went crazy when she heard he was left down there so she went down there too. If they came back it was as spirits. The moral if you will then becomes "Orpheus NEVER can save Euridyce".

    B.... ....

Don't worry. BBJ is immortal, whereas no one remembers this atrocity.

  56. M.... V....

There's a part 3 too! Little Big John

  57. a.... ....

I never knew this one existed until just a few days ago, it seems hard to belive that he got revived due to the "they never reopened that worthless pit" near the end of "Big John" helps eliminate the sadness that came in "Big John".

    a.... ....

I didn't even know there was a sequel...my dad introduced me to John.Heard this on radio today and I was surprised when the announcer gave the backlog story.☺️

  58. C.... ....

Well, this one requires some suspension of disbelief...but okay.

  59. D.... ....

He moooves her! Ha ha. Breeething

  60. K.... R....

I remember this!!! I don't think radio EVER played it.

  61. C.... D....

wow knew this song all my life and never knew there was a sequal

    C.... D....

Cynthia Dunn there’s also little bitty big john

  62. a.... ....

BIG BAD JOHN IS ALIVE???? Damnnnnn

    a.... ....

    It ain't right...

  63. C.... O....

It's too bad many radio stations don't play the Cajun Queen back to back with Big Bad John.

    C.... O....

I agree it need to be back to back

    C.... O....

Then itty bitty big big john

    C.... O....

I'd settle for a radio station that would play either of these songs! I miss country music on the radio.

    C.... O....

Marty robbins if it’s in order, wouldn’t this one be last?

    C.... O....

    And little bitty big John

  64. C.... E....

now people say johny cash didnt do big bad john but he did yes he might have used alittle from jimmy dean but the rest was johnies

  65. B.... K....

I love this song...just for the symbolism of how True Love can save someone.

  66. W.... F....

Jimmy Dean is fine, cause he moooves me, just show me where Jimmy Dean is buried in the ground tell the the whole world he's been found, and he's liiiiivvvvviiin'

  67. D.... D....

a great singer and actor too rest in peace

  68. B.... C....

I can't believe it, this is my favorite song though

  69. C.... ....

He was truly a very busy man!

  70. J.... R....

My great-great-great-great-grandfather, Thomas Darley, had almost that many! 22 children, and, best I can tell, about 98 grandchildren.

  71. C.... ....

maybe it's based on a story from genesis, people used to have about that many grandchildren back then :)

  72. c.... ....

Oh My God! I never knew this existed! Big Bad John was (and still is) one of my many favorites growing up in the wild and wonderful '60's and to just now discover this sequel song to it brought a tear to my eye and a warm feeling to my heart. Thank you so much for posting and sharing it with us.... Rest well, Jimmy!!!!....

  73. T.... ....

    Christmas shopping must be hell

  74. N.... ....

I'll be honest, this song kinda creeped me out a bit when I first heard it. Maybe it's because of the part where the supposedly dead John starts breathing. Was I the only one?

  75. m.... j....

This is the best version bu far..

  76. x.... ....

Com'on Queeny we're gonna leave this hole---they started walkin.

  77. J.... F....

2 men underestimated the power of a woman.

  86. a.... ....

@BigDTinyE Listen to the lyrics more closely, he wasn't alive. The magic and love of this Cajun Queen resurrected him.

  87. T.... C....

i like those songs that tie in to other songs, like falina

  88. A.... ....

Oh wow!! I haven't heard this in YEARS! Thank you for posting.

  89. M.... S....

I like all kinds of music, from Fergie to Jimmy Dean and beyond. Jimmy Dean was the proof a ''good ol' country boy'' could be a genius in marketing in many areas. At least he did not write to the populace book-after-book-after-book about Religion...the nature of man never changes, but FWIW, I like the idea of Big Bad John surviving.
Everyone is entitled to their own view, tho...Cheers!

  90. C.... ....

    @gunny556fly Damn right...

  91. N.... ....

The part where it said "he started breeeathin'" always kinda spooked me.
