Years later something brought that term up “ It moves me “ and where it came from. I told them it was used in the Jimmy Dean Cajun Queen sequel tune to Big John and also used by Elvis in the original ‘ Milk Cow Blues Boogie ‘ ( Hold it fellas, that don’t move me. Let’s get real gone for a change )

the song lowkey sounds reggaeish when you take out your left earbud

this song makes me cry, they love each other so much. the power of a woman mixed with true love. fantastic song

I grew up listening to this one (and BBJ) on that Best Hits album.

I have fun listening to this one, over and over. I love Jimmy Dean. He also was an actor on that show, Daniel Boone. Very smart gifted fellow.
Listen to the words, he puts women in the proper perspective. You'll want to hear it over and over again too, just for the storyline. Alot of songs back from that time were old folk songs, that told a story, all being "tall tales". Enjoy.

EGAD....you people are reading WAAAAAYY too much into this..... the song is quite simply a tribute to the power of love that a woman has for her man.....and as for coming back from the dead,I can cite you numerous examples of people who were clinically dead,only to be brought back from the other side because they heard their loved ones call out to them..... just enjoy the song for what it is,guys.... another fine piece of art from a true country legend.

To be fair, she is from New Orleans, which was pretty well known for voodoo practices back in the day. Or so I've heard.

musicman201047 she’s a “Cajun Queen” from New Orleans which was where Cajun voodoo was commonly practiced. The masters of voodoo are called Queen. Coupled with the fact that Big John has obviously been dead for a while, the inscription on top, it is not a leap to say that Big John is some kind of undead creature.

Obviously Big John is now a voodoo zombie.

I never liked this one, John was an outsider and loner, he never was close to his fellow workers yet he gave his life to save them...''Big Bad John'' never said whether or not John chose to stay away from his coworkers or if he tried and they were too intimidated by him to ever get to know him or if they just avoided him altogether but either way it showed he wasn't just a big man but that he had an even bigger heart, the song was a testament to how the most heroic and selfless acts can come from the seemingly most unlikely places. I think Jimmy bringing him back this way made a mockery of his heroism, he should have let Big John rest in peace... Of course I know it's just a song Jimmy sang but there's a lot of truth in it about human nature, whether he meant for it to be just a song or something deeper, I haven't a clue, that's just what I got from it.

As it stands, I believe that the story of Big John isn't as metaphorical as you want it be.

I agree that destroying the mythos does take away from the sacrifice. I can only tolerate it in terms of: she went crazy when she heard he was left down there so she went down there too. If they came back it was as spirits. The moral if you will then becomes "Orpheus NEVER can save Euridyce".

I never knew this one existed until just a few days ago, it seems hard to belive that he got revived due to the "they never reopened that worthless pit" near the end of "Big John" helps eliminate the sadness that came in "Big John".

Oh My God! I never knew this existed! Big Bad John was (and still is) one of my many favorites growing up in the wild and wonderful '60's and to just now discover this sequel song to it brought a tear to my eye and a warm feeling to my heart. I like all kinds of music, from Fergie to Jimmy Dean and beyond. Jimmy Dean was the proof a ''good ol' country boy'' could be a genius in marketing in many areas. At least he did not write to the populace book-after-book-after-book about Religion...the nature of man never changes, but FWIW, I like the idea of Big Bad John surviving.
