I did a short stint as a long-haul trucker across the U.S., but those road trains you guys drive down there in Oz sound like a new definition of a hard run. In any case, I love the song. It reminds me of the only good thing about that job: the miles themselves, the open road.

SAR Kenworth. Made specifically for Australia in the late 1960's or early 70's to so as to comply with our length laws and still have a bonneted truck. SAR stands for Short Australian Right hand drive supposedly. Most drivers called them Short And Rough.

Huge parts of Australia have closed railways & 3rd world highways that are not even safe in a car (don't eat a heavy meal before driving)


Humanity relies ships & trains to feed the people & (in Australias case) export our mineral products. Without that, we'd still be a sheep run.
Tucks have a important job, but like Aircraft, trucks don't carry a lot, compared to trains & ships.

Without farmers, manufacturing, miners and other industries you wouldn’t have a job.🤷‍♂️

@John Sergei I remember when I was young, old folks living on the Murrumbidgee River in huts. They had nothing, but were happy folk, and many of them had lived through the depression years and fought in the big wars. They didn't buy into the consumerist bullshit that everybody else is conned with. If you don't want to live in the system, you should be able to opt out without shit-wits slinging off at you as if you're a parasite. The real leaches are the dross at the top of our society who tell us all how hard we should be working (to make them even richer) whilst they do fuck-all. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised; scum always rises to the top.

The last time I had anything to do with the industry, many drivers were being paid per-kilometre when they should have been paid per-hour like everybody else. However, greedy transport bosses were intent on keeping wages down and didn't want to pay for time on the road. Worse still, they said the truckies couldn't be trusted; that they'd deliberately get a flat tyre just to get some overtime. A few of them might have done stuff like that, but most of them just wanted to earn an honest living and get home to their families. Many of these drivers didn't do themselves any favours, not only refusing to join their union, but playing the 'hero' and breaking through their mates' picket lines. All they did was to play into the hands of the union-bashing bosses, help to suppress truckies' wages for years, and earn themselves the 'scab' label.
