Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun Lyrics

"Happy new year first of all. I hope we'll have
A million or two million more of them... if we
Can get over this summer, he he he
Right, I'd like to dedicate this one to the draggin' scene
That's goin' on all the soldiers that are fightin'
In Chicago, Milwaukee and New York... oh yes, and
All the soldiers fightin' in vietnam. like to do
A thing called 'machine gun'."

Machine gun
Tearing my body all apart

Machine gun
Tearing my body all apart

Evil man make me kill ya
Evil man make you kill me
Evil man make me kill you
Even though we're only families apart

Well I pick up my ax and fight like a bomber
(you know what I mean)
Hey and your bullets keep knocking me down

Hey I pick up my ax and fight like a bomber now
Yeah but you still blast me down to the ground

The same way you shoot me down baby
You'll be going just the same
Three times the pain
And your own self to blame
Hey machine gun

Oooooooooo

I ain't afraid of your mess no more, babe
I ain't afraid no more
After a while your your cheap talk don't even cause me pain
So let your bullets fly like rain

'cause I know all the time you're wrong baby
And you'll be goin' just the same
Yeah machine gun
Tearing my family apart
Yeah yeah alright
Tearing my family apart

Don't you shoot him down
He's about to leave here
Don't you shoot him down
He's got to stay here
He ain't going nowhere
He's been shot down to the ground
Oh where he can't survive no no

Yeah that's what we don't wanna hear any more, alright
No bullets
At least here, huh huh
No guns, no bombs
Huh huh
No nothin', just let's all live and live
You know instead of killin'

Jimi Hendrix Machine Gun Comments
  1. D.... N....

This song officially relegates Metallica's "One" so much....it makes it look like a number Two.

  2. F.... *....

This is my guitar , there is no other guitar like it F**k the rest I am going to make it scream and weep Hendrix is god 🤘🏽

  3. B.... ....

Jimi should not have die for god’s sake always the good die and evil stay

  4. C.... A....

Jimi’s Tone was so organic and from the soul.

  5. J.... S....

His sound was undeniable and today still unmatched. I've seen many try to match that feeling and even the best in the world get frustrated unable to come close . Pilky is probably the closes I've seen. Next to SRV of course .

    J.... S....

There is only one Jimi Hendrix.

  6. S.... S....

    Viajo nesse som...hedrix era foda.

  7. E.... J....

My current favourite songs of the 1970s in no particular order...

    David Bowie - Golden Years

The Doors - Riders on the Storm

    Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant

    Judee Sill - The Kiss

Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun (Live at the Fillmore 1970)

The Ramones - I Don't Wanna Go Down To The Basement

    Joy Division - Digital

    Kraftwerk - Autobahn

Al Green - Let's Stay Together

Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues

Iggy and the Stooges - Penetration

  8. G.... N....

machine gun is a rocket engine blaaaasting into outer spaaace !

  9. P.... M....

Dangerous shit; makes you want to quit your job and listen Jimi in your bed, smoking mind enhancers all night with midnight lamp burning..

  10. m.... ....

this is prob the gnarliest versi on I ve ever heard! Ive heard about a dozen

  11. v.... ....

No-one has created like Jimi created, a true one-off . He came here and did what he needed to do and left........some get it, others don’t . Fly on brother , fly on.

  12. g.... ....

    A phenomenon

  13. m.... ....

this version is absolutely disgusting. in a good way. it also sounds like he has a cold so the singing is nasty as hell. but in a good way.

  14. D.... P....

Listen to Satriani talking about his 3 favorite Hendrix moments, then listen to Machine Gun again. Bamd of gypsys is the first (post Beatles!) rock album I bought when I was around 13 yo. At 55, I still listen to it with passion. One luminous human being.

  15. B.... S....

I think this might the best war song ever

  16. S.... W....

This man had total mastery of his gear his sound and his soul, he goes beyond music while playing music. The one and only JIMI HENDRIX!!!

  17. j.... m....

The best of the best. Plain & simple☝🤘

  18. K.... S....

Even in my teens, believe it or don't, Jimi made me cry. He was protesting the evil in the world. He was a sad person, a musical genius, who needed Christ, the One who resets the world and makes it pure again.

    K.... S....

Ken Shiloh well, it would be sad to go to heaven if Jimi is in hell.

    K.... S....

@Cesar Alexander You know, Cesar, this might sound weird, but Jimi is one of my favorite people. I would love to see him in heaven - and he might be there!
The real question is, where will you be in eternity? We all have corrupt natures. Haven't we all lied, stolen, used God's Name in disrespect?
Cesar, hell is a real place. God won't drag you to heaven; you have to ask. He has done everything He can to get you there. Ultimately, it rests in your court. As for me, when I was 17, I prayed for the first time, "Is there Jesus? I would like to meet Him!" I did. This might sound crazy, but it's true: I know God personally. You can know Him too. Just ask!
How would it be for you if Jimi had repented and we get to jam in heaven where the weather is perfect and nobody rips you off? Yet, because you went into eternity without Christ, you are judged for every bad things you've done. Please, please, please do not miss eternal life in Christ!

    K.... S....

Ken Shiloh I am a Christian as well, but I appreciate you’re concern. Also, yeah of course it would be nice if we would get the chance to meet Jimi, SRV, and other guitar legends.

  19. h.... s....

Fuck. he was getting so good towards the end.. some of the most powerful shit I've ever heard

  20. S.... L....

Jimi took you on a magic trip that no one else ever could and likely never will. What a gift!

  21. R.... C....

Amazing, almost 50 years later, no one can come close to his playing of the electric guitar....definitely a legend that people will not forget for another 50 years!!! Rest In Peace Jimi !!!

  22. A.... B....

    Monstro sagrado d guitarra

  23. A.... B....

    Machine gun é o Máximo.

  24. C.... G....

How is this not liked....man, he was a god
    Prince was his reincarnation...
    Amazing talent and Mind

  25. C.... L....

SRV should never be compared to a monster like this..you’re talking about a texas blues guy who plays albert king and jimis licks..jimi didnt have a ‘Jimi’ to emulate all he had was clapton? And all those old bluesmen and look what he did! Stevie just plays generic blues songs and his solos are great but he was not an innovator..all he did was play clean precise fast blues licks that other people invented

    C.... L....

Clout Lord agreed. SRV doesn’t have a 5 percent amount of soul playing compared the Hendrix. SRV is excellent. HENDRIX is extraordinary and extraterrestrial...beyond.

  26. A.... O....

Does he know the guitar part and sing over it, or does he ad lib

    A.... O....

Jimi follows his vocal melody with his guitar in much of his work. In fact, it's a good skill to learn that allows you to improvise more freely because you can play almost anything you can sing. He was the master at this skill.

  27. C.... S....

You can almost smell Clapton shittin' himself... Hendrix was the god's god.

  28. B.... E....

All Quiet on the Western Front played through a Marshall amp. One of the greatest anti war statements ever made

  29. H.... F....

Only he could control the Monster. And do as he will.

  30. A.... S....

Ive seen Jimi live many times, but this video and sound quality is total crap!

    A.... S....

Who cares? I enjoyed it, your ears have rotten over the years.

  31. T.... O....

Never afraid to support his brothers in the military. Not many superstars would be so vocal now.

  32. L.... V....

Jimi had a purpose and a voice for all people of all colors and religions. He broke down barriers of segregation , and political beliefs. He did this better than any other musician or Artist. He used the stage to scream thru his Marshall's. His playing spoke louder than the lyrics did as you can hear this in his live performances. He was a true Martyr of the times and changed the landscape of music. He used all his God given talents to the maximum. Unfortunately God himself took him away from us because we couldn't handle the progression of his power.

  33. L.... T....

    Univibe <3

  34. k.... ....

    Why is this slowed down?

  35. M.... ....

    good job on the video

  36. B.... ....

Mitch Mitchel on drums and Billy Cox on bass that must be The Cry of Love trio tour.........1970 somewhere

    B.... ....

That might've been the best band in rock history.

  37. Z.... M....

    Rest in Piece , Jimi

  38. S.... ....

@ only 27, the guy was in full flight. He brought down so many barriers and opened so many paths to explore in so few years that we're only barely getting around taking stock of what happened.

    S.... ....

    Yes...Indeed!

  39. C.... J....

Sorry for being so rude but I want to see him play. Thank you!

  40. C.... B....

I am amazed how people are always comparing Jimmi Hendrix with Eric Clapton. There is no comparison. Jimmi Hendrix is the Master, no one can ever measure up to his Greatness!!!

  41. D.... W....

Seeing all the long hair hippies get wet is cool But. Jimi is playing the GD Guitar

  42. S.... G....

Another road to left the conflict on disco and presion get the USA on seventh decade of slaves.

  43. D.... R....

I NOTICED HOW AFTER THESE CONCERTS HE'S PLAYED THE SITE ALWAYS LOOKS LIKE A TORNADO HIT & SPLIT THE SCENE. SOMETHING TO THINK AT LEAST FOR ME AT LEAST. JIMI HENDRIX WAS A FORCE TOTAL EMBODIMENT OF RELIGION & MUSIC.

  44. R.... N....

    Heart✨🚧✨Soul

  45. m.... ....

I also credit Jimi with the birth of heavy metal..Dig it??

    m.... ....

He is no doubt the father of heavy metal

    m.... ....

@Anti World metal wouldn't have happened without him but I think he had a bigger direct influence on jazz-rock fusion guitarists like John McLaughlin

  46. B.... s....

Even as documentary shows these people are so unaware baby boomers at least half are to just fucked up to even realize that's why much of this country is is where it's at ya theres a few that understand the genius at work but the rest are fucking laced and placed then they got older and truly f uped everything as if they where intitled I dont care if they where there but they didn't hear Hendrix they went along with the flow and went Peter pall and mary truth

  47. B.... s....

Nothing , I love sabbath is great as many others at this time but I dont stop and listen as this played a medifor a sharp shooting sound

  48. B.... s....

Absolutely brilliant I find I get people to say it's to high pitched and twining to loud forgive my grammar I was born to late 73 but when I hear this art played its majestic on point and influences me beyond anything ever played since if that makes sence

  49. C.... L....

8:20 woah this dude was Van Halen in 1970! Making sounds with his guitar no one else thought was possible

  50. D.... H....

Existe O Rock Antes De Hendrix . E Existe O Rock Depois De Hendrix

  51. D.... L....

gods last name aint damn, you imp....you wouldnt cuss him if you were gasping for breath..........to live.

  52. B.... T....

So much better with Mitch playing

  53. C.... R....

Amazing and downloadable. You rock!!! Thanks so much for your work and channel! !!!

  54. R.... G....

    Mahler, Hendrix; Pink Floyd

  55. S.... D....

Was this by chance on one of the discs included in the "Stages" boxed-set released back in the late '80s/early '90s? I ask 'cuz I owned that release at some point back then, and one of those discs featured a gig played in some Scandinavian city like Copenhagen or Stockholm (the other discs were for L.A., Atlanta, and Paris, or so according to my memory)

  56. v.... B....

Its farmer not bomber, back in the early days of the Vietnam war all the die hard liberals thought the vietnamese people NVA (farmers) would fight with sticks and axes, that wasn't the case they actually had AKs and rockets And grenades etc. All made in either Russia or China

  57. B.... ....

There is no one could ever touch Jimi

  58. A.... G....

    Awesome version ✌️🇬🇧

  59. A.... ....

  62. T.... ....

Even the video is on acid

  63. D.... S....

I swear that I can hear an alien speaking speaking somewhere in all that feedback . It is weird and interesting .

  64. S.... B....

Assustador mesmo. Totalmente Hendrix. Ninguém consegue fazer um som próprio sem acopiar igual o Mestre Hendrix fazia.

  65. S.... B....

Fantástico. O maior guitarrista que o mundo já viu.

  66. E.... v....

Often when i hear Jimi, i dont think in therms of rock guitar. He was so much more than that.

    E.... v....

    Elmore van dodewaard me too.

  67. M.... l....

This my Rock N Roll friends is THE greatest Guitarist of ALL TIMES and before I get trolled, this is MY opinion. HNDRX69

  68. B.... ....

this is the Band of Gypsies I guess..............

  69. B.... ....

Jimi fucked away the glorified air out of Clapton's world .........

  70. t.... n....

There was Hendrix, then there is.......everyone else....sadly

    t.... n....

I agree. Buckethead is a close second. IMO

  71. B.... ....

I'm here just repeat the admiration for Jimi, I could not name a guitar player who can beat him in any level ..............

  72. S.... M....

Everyone thinking Jimi's music represents an opportunity to take a shit on Eric Clapton or anybody else has not and never will understand a thing they've ever listened to...EVER.

  73. s.... h....

And, this is why we still rock.

  74. M.... ....

The 50 year moratorium on Jimi's music comes to an end on 18 September 2020. See y'all in Seattle then. Rest In Peace Paul Allen.

  75. P.... ....

    nope, mashed up

  76. M.... K....

this makes me feel some type of way especially that bass guitar god damn

  77. J.... A....

Quality sucks I was born back then we had better cameras than that

  78. s.... ....

Fuck'n piece of shit hippies didn't know how good he was.

  79. C.... M....

Some how Hendrix managed to tame that monstrous sound. Nobody else can do it. He just had this knack for pushing that guitar and amp(s) to their limits but somehow having complete control over it the whole time. He's a real one off.

    C.... M....

The Cats nah he cranked it up but just played blues solos he barely messed with feedback and didn’t use it too his advantage like Hendrix but he had that beautiful woman tone

    C.... M....

The Cats not even close lol clapton was tryna be jimi right there obviously lol that was cool but hes not fuckin with hendrix Claptons just a great blues soloist

  80. A.... L....

This is HUGE! This has the gravity of a black hole and we come out the other side transformed and enlightened. Peace To All!

  81. R.... B....

For me, this song is the musical equivalent of Arthur Rimbaud's poem "The Drunken Boat". It's the only musical experience I've ever heard that takes me on the same strange, outside-of-this-existence journey as Rimbaud's mind-bending poem.

  82. X.... ....

That bass coming in at the beginning is just too good

  83. j.... m....

This is all out of sync...the first lines of this song are played in the upper register of the fretboard
Fuck knows what song is actually being played because it sure as shit does not appear to be Machine Gun

  84. J.... ....

  85. R.... B....

This is the coldest sound that waves ever carried

  86. A.... W....

    This is real heavy metal

    A.... W....

    Jimi started metal not sabbath

    A.... W....

    @slayer- ye cream did too

    A.... W....

    slayer- ye you’re insane

  87. E.... ....

Something about real musicians and their music sounding better live idk man it's like they used to operate off of talent.

  88. j.... b....

this is a religious experience, not a song lol.. wtf

  89. G.... ....

Fucking awesome , grinding that strat with like only he could do ... MUSICAL GENIUS

  90. d.... v....

Fucking Jimi man !! Wtf ? This guy was a monster ? This solo sounds like a woman screaming at the soldiers becoes they killed her family. Sounds like helicopters explosions machine guns sounds like war. Wtf ? I am a guitar player but now I want to be something else. There is no way someone can play like this. Fuck !!!

  91. L.... T....

    Still the best.

  92. O.... A....

    Only One Man

  93. t.... ....

    I Love You Jimi

  94. D.... S....

At his best right here also check out royal albert feb 24,1969 second show wow !

  95. J.... t....

This version has the best vocals... the very first line just gives me chills right to the goddamn bone

  96. p.... n....

There are quite a few mixes of this track, so it's difficult to find the definitive one. Whichever version you prefer it's great work by Jimi, who left us that sad day in 1970; his music lives on.

  97. D.... S....

This is from a two hour concert . There are some gems from the concert that is for sure !

  98. D.... S....

This version kicks ass . With some work they could stick it on an album maybe ?

  99. 3.... ....

    Absolutely blows the brain---

  100. d.... v....

It has nothing to do with the guitar the univibe the amps the wah. I tryed them all and nothibg dhoes this. He never adjused action intonation or pickups height. Just playied the damn things as they come. And we obssesed about all dhoes things like crazy people. But you can t do nothing to do this. Nothing!

    d.... v....

Silviu Stefan hit the nail on the head. I’ve watched innumerable live performances of Jimi. He’ll do a tweak on the amp here, maybe switch the pick up once or twice, then launch for 15 minutes. Retreat to the Marshall stack. Minor tweak. And right back into it.
