Jim Reeves - I'd Fight The World Lyrics

I don't care what anybody thinks of me
My pride is gone and here I am on bended knee
I want you and I need you that's all I know
And I'd fight the world before I'd ever let you go.

I'd gladly beg, I'd steal or I'd borrow
I'd turn my back on everyone I know
I'd do these things with no fear of tomorrow
I'd fight the world before I'd ever let you go.

I want you and I need you that's all I know
And I'd fight the world before I'd ever let you go.

I'd gladly beg, I'd steal or I'd borrow
I'd turn my back on everyone I know
I'd do these things with no fear of tomorrow
Ask anything but tell me you won't go.

Yes, I'd fight the world before I'd ever let you go...

Great voice, lovely song still popular today, what a talent he was. Brilliant.

I remember the sick feeling when I heard that my favorite singer had died. I was horrified that he'd died in a plane crash, as Patsy Cline had. I've never heard what condition he was in but, I did read that the bunch in her plane were so badly dismembered that the only way they identified any part of her was from one of her feet that was caught in a tree- because there was nail polish on her toes & she was the only woman on board. That was supposedly from an official but, I sure can't swear to any truth in it.
Though I helped build majestic planes at Boeing, I really don't like them bc too many ppl die at once & SO horrifically.
It was reported that Jim's plane went down in a very bad storm. I've always wondered if they got hit by lightening.... Guess it makes no difference.
He was just 11 days short of 41 but, some say he was 39. But 1923 to 64 makes 41, ppl...!
I write this with tears in my eyes, after allll these years! However, as sad as I feel for his wife, Mary, I know that he went on to be blissfully happy where he went. God bless him. He left us such a gift of so much good music for the few short yrs. he recorded. I'll get to meet him some day!

  51. O.... ....

Thanks for your comment Paula, Jim had that velvet voice and seemed to sing with no effort at all, Gentleman Jim is my favourite of Jims albums my favourite track however is Waltzing On Top Of The World from the same album, so much better than the earlier arrangement.

  52. t.... ....

It's hard to believe it's been 50 years since Jim put out this album. What a warm passionate voice Jim had - just perfect for the love songs. So very smooth and good looking. When Hank Cochran wrote this song he showed the world what a wonderfully talented writer he was. So many of his songs are among my favorites. I never tire of hearing Jim sing and his unique voice makes so many of today's artists sound - and look - mighty pale. Thank you for posting this. - Paula

"i'd fight the world" was actually co-written with joe allison, who also co-wrote "he'll have to go" with his wife audrey. a beautiful overdub of this cut (not much different) was done in 1973 and was a chart single and album title released in 1974. it's also still available and one of my all-time jim reeves favorites.

    t.... ....

    will never die!

  53. R.... G....

At one time I used to have over a hundred of Jim Reeves LP's and this was by favorite song as well as LP. This song was written by Hank Cochran. Produced by Chet Atkins and Anita Kerr. Supporting Reeves in this LP is a group of Nashville musicians whose talents are legend in the music world... including the Anita Kerr Singers, Floyd Cramer on piano, Willy Ackerman on drums, Leo Jackson on lead guitar, Velma Smith on guitar and Marvin Hughes on vibes.

    R.... G....

see reply above about co-authorship with joe allison and later 1974 overdub single and album title.

  54. L.... ....

Anyne know who did this arrangement?

    L.... ....

most probably anita kerr, who usually got "copyist" credit (and a little extra pay) for the session arrangements as well as her beautiful background vocals. in practical terms, the arrangement here was likely a studio collaboration that also included chet atkins , floyd cramer, and jim reeves.

  55. A.... M....

Love this song for its story lines. He's really in love with her and will do anything to have her. Thats real Love I guess.
    Happy listening!!
