Jim Reeves - Distant Drums Lyrics

I hear the sound of distant drums
Far away, far away
And if they call for me to come
Then I must go and you must stay

So Mary marry me, let's not wait
Let's share all the time we can before it's too late
Love me now for now is all the time there may be
If you love me Mary, Mary marry me

I hear the sound of bugles blow
Far away, far away
And if they call, then I must go
Across the sea, so wild and grey.

So Mary marry me, let's not wait
For the distant drums might change our wedding date
And love me now, for now is all the time there may be
If you love me Mary, Mary marry me

THis was a posthumous for country great, Jim Reeves, who was killed in a plane crash in July 1964. The great Jim Reeves aka Gentleman Jim spent 5 weeks at No.1 during September and October 1966 with the classic country ballad Distant Drums, which was the second best selling single of 1966. As well as country, Jim Reeves sang a lot of gospel music and religious songs, for me he was and will alaways remain a country music superstar.

My Father was a big fan and as a kid I hated when he put it on, it just wasn't my type of music but, my father has been gone for nearly 15 years and I'd give anything to spend the next 3 minutes and 9 seconds talking with him. He made me the man I've become, I just hope I've made him proud.

  88. K.... G....

  89. C.... P....

    Love you Jim
