haven't heard this song in 20 years...brings back memories

This makes me tear up everytime I hear, 5 years ago it was played at my Aunty's funeral and the song still gets me.

I was a fan of "Alaska the Last Frontier", loooong before I found out that Jewel was the daughter of Atz Kilcher. After getting to know them for so many seasons, I have NO doubt that Jewel wrote this about her father. With that said, Atz has come a long way (in his thinking) since the show began but wow, the Kilcher men are some of the last of a dying breed and I can just say, thank God! Nowadays on "the homesteads" the men are starting to get it. There's still a lot of room for improvement but the younger ones are more in tune and the older ones seem to be getting better. The women are coming on strong and the men are having to rethink their upbringing and their (sorry to say - "male chauvinistic” ) attitudes. Hopefully that will continue.

since when did you become sensitive? you intentionally moved to Huntsville, Alabama just to eventually connect with my family and tell them all the things you had heard from that bunch of lesbians and bitches we were working with.in sac-a-sh#t. all of you thought you were so smart by destroying me and my reputation and that was not enough for you. you willfully and intentionally arranged a connection with family members whom you knew would turn my family against me and put a family member in contact with a girlfriend of yours so an x-nephew i once knew would move in with your friend. of course, my sister being misguided by a Baptist minister at her church to use tough love to banish me from my family unless i moved back there and get back into the Baptist fold. i know this because the minister approached me at my brothers memorial and invited me into that church where my sister attends for many years. i had rather die than go back into that church that has tried every method to have me destroyed. they knew what they were doing because sister was into that sort of thing and was easy to manipulate to their liking. i am not like that because they have tried to manipulate me into marriage into the church and now using force and social ostracism to force me and destroy my career so i could not get back into my field in private sector. so you are sensitive huh? i don't give a sweet s#hit if you are sensitive or not and you are not. you are possibly the most coarse human being i have ever had the misfortune to work with. you are like so many of the women out there who boldly attack men who refuse to be forced or manipulated into marrying one of the leftover dikes so they can control you with threats of a suite and living off of your salary to help raise their kids by some other man who has disappeared after they impregnated her and refuses to take responsibility for his own child. you think i don't know what is going on in that govt. insane asylum and what you women are attempting to pull off by getting me out of the picture? i know the drill, so don't play any more games with me. i see very well who you are.

This was the drops of gasoline that i needed to keep the embers of my hope and confidence alive... sometimes i am vulnerable to the rain and need that little bit to keep me going :-)  I am in such awe of musicians who are so dedicated to helping others know and specifically feel that they are not alone.  The way the world functions right now, though it is changing to balance out, it benefits some to continue to draw those imaginary lines of cognitive dissonance.  We are the only ones who can define who we are... words will never define who I am.  I am an enigma because I am scattered and focused, I am energetic and sluggish. I am conscious and unconscious. I am joy and unfortunately sometimes I am fear.  I am 3-dimensional.  I am unique and not unique... which is why I will do my very best to stay alert and intentionally treat others the exact same way I want to be treated... doesn't mean that they are getting what they want, but they are getting what I've got - and I am always me, doing what i can to be the best version of myself... intentionally.  It takes effort, and it deserves to be respected by me... my efforts don't need validation from anyone else, and can't be dependent on the approval of anyone else if I am to continue to love and accept myself exactly the way I am.  :-)

Everyone can relate to this song.  On a certain level these are the words of most teenagers entering high school.  We learn the hard way that most people don't see or care about our pain.
