Jethro Tull - Watching Me Watching You Lyrics

I sit by the cutting on the Beaconsfield line.
He's watching me watching the trains go by.
And they move so fast --- boy, they really fly.
He's still watching me watching you watching the
trains go by.

And the way he stares --- feel like locking my door
and pulling my phone from the wall.
His eyes, like lights from a laser, burn
making my hair stand --- making the goose-bumps crawl.

He's watching me watching you watching him
watching me
I'm watching you watching him watching me
watching Stares.

At the cocktail party with a Bucks Fizz in my hand
I feel him watching me watching the girls go by.
And they move so smooth without even trying.
He's still watching me watching you watching the
trains go by.

And the crowd thins and he moves up close but he doesn't speak.
I have to look the other way.
But curiosity gets the better part of me and I peek:
Got two drinks in his hand --- see his lips move ---
what the hell's he trying to say.

He's watching me watching you watching him
watching me.
I'm watching you watching him watching me
watching Stares.
He's watching me watching you watching him
watching me.
He's watching me watching you watching
the trains go by.
He's watching me watching you watching him
watching me.
He's watching me watching you watching him watching me.
He's watching me watching you watching him watching me watching him watching.

Beautiful play between 3 and 4! Possibly the best 12/8 piece EVER!

  2. R.... A....

I remember years ago my older brother Ron, taking me to football practice on a Saturday morning and blasting this song with his Pioneer and Cerwin Vega speakers...I just loved the sound!! In reality it would really pump before the game.....

  3. D.... B....

The performance of this song was great with the strobe light and the “doctors” following Ian around. Trippy and fun.

  4. S.... R....

The song that I never really liked About this Album - the only one though.

  5. L.... ....

Isn't this some of their best songs ever? I always came back to it...that "watching him watching me" is a kind of a haunting beauty.

Their best I think by far is Thick as a Brick. That's like their magnum opus. However, this one song really does stand out among many of their more popular tracks.

@Jack O'Connell I find it quite hard to say. I always loved "Songs from the wood", but on the other hand, I would miss some very important songs then. It really is a great band with so many wonderful songs, unforgotten and never boring.

If all 80's music would have had this quality.... ahahh

Grande Ian Anderson. Lunga vita al Re.

I remember the Broadsword & The Beast concert, he ascended on a pedestal in a viking ship. One of my all-time favorite bands, Anderson always entertains.

Sadly, I can't find the liner notes from this reissue (they used to be on Ian Anderson's website, IIRC), but he talks about how ridiculous he felt with the stage and musicians dressed up like pirates, which was very out-of-step with 80's music culture... that said, renowned as excellent shows, and the last tour before he wrecked his voice.
