Jethro Tull - Requiem Lyrics
Well, I saw a bird today --- flying from a bush and the
wind blew it away.
And the black-eyed mother sun scorched the butterfly
at play --- velvet veined.
I saw it burn.
right on by.
And, taking in the morning, I sang --- O Requiem.
Well, my lady told me, ``Stay.''
I looked aside and walked away along the Strand.
But I didn't say a word, as the train time-table blurred
close behind the taxi stand.
Saw her face in the tear-drop black cab window.
Fading in the traffic; watched her go.
And taking in the morning, heard myself singing ---
O Requiem.
It's the same old story.
Well, I saw a bird today --- I looked aside and walked
away along the Strand.

Jethro Tull Requiem Comments
A wonderful gem, supposedly inspired by Anderson's experience of divorce. Delicate vocals, wonderfully restrained string quartet. Just marvellous.
Jethro Tull forever
Best pic ever of Ian at 1:14.
And almost 50 have passed by. Always beautiful
I wouldn't trade my life for anything. There have been some dark dark years. But in another life I might not have been so fortunate to see the greatest rock and roll bands that ever existed. Especially Jethro Tull. I first saw them when they toured for The Stand Up album. I have probably seen them eight times. Yes his voice isn't what it used to be but his playing and songs are unsurpassed, they are in a class of Their Own. I hope the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame never induct him, it would be an insult at this stage of the game.
the good old days
This is pure gold. I loved this song when it first came and it is still timeless.
Just finished the Last of Us, listening to this beautiful song, I am lost in a world of quiet musings.
Jethro Tull is unmatched!
So great song thanks to IAN

Probably strange, but I think it's his best.

So nice, again and again !
Precioso, precioso, precioso...
There are blessed people who know how to threat music well. So gently, simple and sensible. All of us are sons of God, bu He is cerntainly has his favorite ones.
All I can say is Just Really Beautiful ❤😘
Ian at his metaphorical best. From the "bird", which of course is English slang for a young woman, to blurring of the train timetable; I believe this one recounts a breakup and tearful moments that followed. Just beautiful and heart-wrenching, sung magnificently.
Such a sweet and poignant tune. Another gem from the unheralded master.
What a beautiful song. IT just shows how diverse their music is . I love it.
what a wonderful song... Just as usual!
Why the hell CATSQUARL is'nt on here has got me beleaving ther's no true JETHRO TULL fans left. I gess they'er all too old to Rockinroll🐌. Yal,s Truly*🐛
Saw her face in the tear-drop black cab window.' Just brilliant.
Ian Anderson forever
magique!!!!!!!!!!
Such a gentle piece. he's a fucking genius this man. Could do anything
so beautiful - thank you
GREAT SONG.
GREAT SONG.
no words. this is beyond beauty and sadness. Genius.
Ian such a great writer, this is good, Tull was very versatile not a one or two hit wonder love Tull since 71, still do 2017 and always will. thanks Ian you did will.
Just shows how versatile this band is, beautiful song
And here it is Another great great Tull song without flute. What a genius Ian is. And how stupidly music Media limited him as the one legged rock clown with the flute.
There is a flute. Last stanza (C flute). Just saying.
You´re right of course. Thx for mentioning.
His songs have power and lyrical depth, his voice sucks as always.
You can't blame the music press for that.
Ian pushed that image as his calling card and profile to get his initial publicity.
He did it so well it stuck.
Even Hendrix got tired of being tagged as the wild man who plays electric guitar with his teeth and burns guitars, but that is what got him noticed at first.
@Jan Tien .
I love his voice all the way till the 80's.
It sucks now, but we have all these brilliant recordings.
Love it so much, Welcome back to life
The pics are of the Glen Cornick, Clive Bunker era. This song is Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond and Barriemore Barlowe on bass and drums respectively....
Yes, it's a bit disconcerting.
My favour
never heard of this beautiful song...
I'm so glad I grew up with the music of the seventies. Jethro Tull was and will always be one of my favorite bands; their music actually sounds better now. Ian laid down the most beautiful acoustic tracks ever.
Is Jethro the crazy looking bloke with the beard or is that Ian? And which one is Pink?
+Thundergod129 Max Webster has the answer.
ΠΑΡΑΔΕΙΣΟΣ
simply incomparable genius
Muito bom. gostoso de ouvir
So beautiful !
Guyon Brandt always amazing. Legend.
ΜΠΡΑΒΟ
kool &klassik....!!!!
One of my top favourite Jethro Tull song, even though it's rather a solo song from Ian Anderson, when he had such a beautiful voice and a certain romantism inside. Splendid diaporama. Thank you. :)
lovely. sounds remixed? great strings
always class to those that were there in the wonderful 70s.
This song always calms me. Just amazing.
Same here!
I just could cry! I AM CRYING! I love them!
a true GIANT in the MUSIC INDUSTRY ~
He did!
The images we see here of Ian Anderson will never be repeated - but all things must pass. Ian's creative juices have been mostly squeezed, and his voice is largely gone. But he will go down as one of our greatest musical lyricists.
Bill Allen creative Juices Spent???? Perhaps Your Orange Juice is Stale, My Friend....
Is it just me, or should Ian and Bob Dylan, both, take a seat and let the youth do the concert touring today ?
Good song and thank you for beautiful slideshow!
Love this song. Another great one is Wondering Aloud.
Somedays I just don't want to do it anymore. Then I think of this song. Then I realize if I gave up, I couldn't hear this song anymore.
Beautiful!!
Beautiful song and I love the pics You used.
...incredible! beautiful
& simplicity!!!!!!

Magnificent .....Tull is great.
wow.....since '68 I've been a fan...getting lost here listening to so many memories
Ian mid 70's and Guthrie Govan have to be related somehow. ;P
One of the best albums ever.
GET A HAIRCUT ! ! ! !.......hhahahahahahaha
It can't get much better than that.
I look at the pics and gee I feel old :o\
Still love and listen to the music though.I don't really think there is another band out there who could emulate Tull.
One of my all time favorite Tull songs, thanks for posting! (goes to favorites)
