Jethro Tull - Quizz Kid Lyrics

Cut along the dotted line --- slip in and seal the flap.
Postal competition crazy, though you wear the dunce's cap.
Win a fortnight in Ibiza --- line up for the big hand out.
You'll never know unless you try --- what winning's all about ---
be a quizz kid.
Be a whizz kid.

Six days later there's a rush telegram
Drop everything and telephone this number if you can.
It's a free trip down to London for a weekend of high life.
They'll wine you; dine you; undermine you ---
better not bring the wife ---
be a quizz kid.
Be a whizz kid.

It's a try out for a quizz show that millions watch each week.
Following the fate and fortunes of contestants as they speak.
Answerable to everyone; responsible to all; publicity dissected ---
brain cells splattered on the walls of encyclopaedic knowledge.
May be barbaric but it's fun.
As the clock ticks away a lifetime,
hold your head up to the gun of a million cathode ray tubes
aimed at your tiny skull.
May you find sweet inspiration --- may your memory not be dull.
May you rise to dizzy success.
May your wit be quick and strong.
May you constantly amaze us.
May your answers not be wrong.
May your head be on your shoulders.
May your tongue be in your cheek.
And most of all we pray that you may come back next week!
Be a quizz kid.
Be a whizz kid.

Jethro Tull Quizz Kid Comments
  1. e.... Y....

One of the most underrated Tull songs ever.

    e.... Y....

Woke up to Quizz Kid in my head this morning and had to hear it!

  2. W.... H....

Played this with my band, one time, on one of our first outings. Our friends weren't too sure about the song, but liked the outro!

  3. D.... E....

Tull was and is still underappreciated. But that's a GOOD THING 'popular music' sucks lol

  4. D.... T....

The old Rocker wore his hair too long
Wore his trouser cuffs too tight
Unfashionable to the end --- drank his ale too light
    Death's head belt buckle --- yesterday's dreams ---
The transport caf' prophet of doom
Ringing no change in his double-sewn seams
    In his post-war-babe gloom

Cut along the dotted line slip in and seal the flap
Postal competition crazy, though you wear the dunce's cap

This album came under harsh criticism for what reason I dont understand. An absolute understated classic! Anderson at his finest word play!! 😍

Yeah, I don't know. There are maybe a couple of fillers scattered though, but pretty good. I prefer this over the Heavy Horses, Songs from the Wood, Stormbringer folk rock trilogy. It's a classic Tull album, right there with Aqualung, Benefit, Stand Up, and better than War Child, Minstrel..., or Thick as a Brick. This is more of a true concept album as anything they've done since, with such a balanced, yet diverse, collection of arrangements and lyrics. Yes Thick as a Brick and Passion Play were decent, but lacked much separation I style/key/ tempo throughout. I would certainly say Aqualung is the tour de force concept.

Underrated album...much better than some would have you believe

  8. e.... Y....

    Masterpiece

  9. S.... G....

I could listen to this all day!

Ian Anderson should also be a candidate for a Nobel prize, such a consummate poet, artist, composer, performer.

    M.... H....

No Nobel prize for prog rock flute, sadly.

April 10 2018 and I'm going to see Ian at the Greek Theater in Berkley June 2nd, if anyone cares

YouTube now owns intellectual content ~ my god tis my last day

  13. T.... ....

Awesome. Some of his best arranging and singing. Not to mention the lyrics - hilarious. The publically dissected
brain cells splattered on the walls of encyclopedic knowledge may be barbaric -- but it's fun!!

  14. S.... M....

Ah I just love this novel ah er album !

    S.... M....

Come now! It's just a sleazy cartoon book.....

  15. B.... L....

I guess old rockers don't use youtube. 18 months no comments? Sure, not his best, but quite enjoyable

    B.... L....

Haha, really. I'm replaying Tull's stuf forever though /thumbs up

    B.... L....

    B.... L....

They do! It's just the problem of wading through poor quality audio and deleted videos, etc, etc.
