Jethro Tull - Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square Lyrics

Bright city woman
walking down Leicester Square everyday.
Gonna get a piece of my mind.
You think you're not a piece of my kind.
Ev'rywhere the people looking.
Why don't you get up and sing?

Bright city woman
where did you learn all the things you say?
You listen to the newsmen on TV.
You may fool yourself but you don't fool me.
I'll see you in another place, another time.
You may be someone's, but you won't be mine.

  4. G.... B....

    What a Song.

  5. K.... B....

    modern day troubadors

  6. e.... p....

Stand Up and Benefit are the best ...the others were awesome but these two I keep coming back to

  7. D.... G....

Stand Up and Benefit are classic Tull.....Ian's vocals make the listener believe in time travel.......

  8. m.... ....

Just A smidgen Before My Time, But That's Allright!! Wonderful Musical Creations Are Timeless And This Is TIMELESS!!!

  9. B.... D....

Stand Up ...Benefit... Benefit... Stand Up... both great... which is better... right now I’m saying Stand Up, tomorrow it might be Benefit. As the guy in the record store said today, it might simply depend on your mood that particular day... whatever... these two records are certainly competitive to the more highly touted Aqualung. What say you?

    B.... D....

I wasn't even paying attention by the time of Aqualung...Stand Up and Benefit...ah! no words!!!

    B.... D....

I say "Stand Up and Benefit are both superior to Aqualung."

    B.... D....

Bruce Ditata I definitely think of Benefit and Stand Up as a pair. Always have since I was 16. 61 I am now. That hasn’t changed!

    B.... D....

@Bruce Ditata, indeed I bought this lp when it came out in 1970 and when I opened it up and found the band's likeness stood up. It was a clever idea.. Back then all records were a joy to peruse the liner notes and and other items that might be included such as posters and what not.. Thanks for stirring the old brain gravy.. Kudos from East Texas..

    B.... D....

@Thomas Zino I definitely agree, the first 3 were far superior imho.. How Ian would play and stand on his right leg , I thought with how Neil Young would stand on his left leg would have been a unique pairing lol..

  10. J.... K....

Loved their first 6 albums, but 'Bungle in the Jungle' was it for me. I'm like, 'Yeah, OK, I'm done'

    J.... K....

That is to say, the 'War Child' album.

    J.... K....

Dude, you checked out too early, WC is a great album!! Just that one song is a bit "disco-pop".

  11. B.... F....

It's interesting that his songs are different

  12. M.... O....

    What a great song!

  13. J.... B....

Stand Up IS Tull at their best.

    J.... B....

'Stand Up' and 'Benefit' are my two favourite Tull albums, both magnificent. 'Stand Up' is possibly the more creative as it beautifully blends a bunch of genres: rock, blues, jazz, folk. . .

  14. N.... S....

    Its Goodyear isnt

  15. P.... W....

Great little song, this, featuring interesting use of stereo separation.

    P.... W....

    Pan potting is it not??

  16. J.... J....

this chick sounds like a total bitch

  17. E.... M....

    Who is Jeffrey??

    E.... M....

Jeff Hammond. Friend and future bassist for Tull.

    E.... M....

Jeffrey Hammond (he added another -Hammond when joining Tull as the bassist in 1970) was also the Jeffrey named in "A "A Song For Jeffrey" on the debut Tull album "This Was". Jeffrey's first album with Tull was "Aqualung", released in 1971. His last with Tull was "Minstrel In The Gallery" from 1975.

  18. B.... M....

Bright city woman, where did you learned all the things you say.

    B.... M....

    Brix Montiell

    B.... M....

Brix Montiell you listen to the news man in TV, you may fool yourself but you don't fool meeeee haha Tull until I die lol

  19. B.... B....

I wish "classic rock" stations would realize that Jethro Tull made other music besides Aqualung. Stand Up, from beginning to end, is a magnificent masterpiece.

    B.... B....

@Dan G.R. Those are my two favs right there. LOVE TAAB and PP. They are the most quintessentially awesome Jethro Tull for me. All others are great but those two top my list.

    B.... B....

Yes, I wish that too! The problem is that the corporate mooks programming these playlists select the same songs that we heard on the radio too many times.......... 40 freaking years ago. There was so much more GOOD music recorded back in the day but sadly it never sees the light of day in terms of radio play.

    B.... B....

@Gregory Fowler Today's radio makes me thankful for YouTube.

    B.... B....

One of the first concerts I ever attended. Have seen Tull or Ian Anderson 15 times since then

    B.... B....

    "Bright city woman
Where did you learn all the things you say?
You listen to the newsmen on TV."
This song is so fucking underrated!

  20. J.... ....

It would be nice to hear the music instead of some FUCKING AD PAID FOR BY WHOM ?? WHAT THE FUCK GOOGLE IS SATAN FUCK OFF GOOGLE GO FUCKING DIE

    J.... ....

+JackinTheWoods o.o how can someone listen to this kinda Tull and be angry?

    J.... ....

there's the adblock... works like a charm! https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom

  21. H.... ....

    Trascendental

  22. C.... K....

I'm so glad Jeffrey went down to Leicester Square, and they recorded this high medieval rock.

    C.... K....

But did he ever come back????

    C.... K....

Craig Koebelin Well said! Hats off to ol Jeffery!!

  23. g.... ....

    Fantastic song!!

  24. K.... P....

I saw Jethro Tull in New Hampshire(1970) at a small college, and that is still my favorite concert these past 43 years with this song sticking in my brain the longest.

  25. J.... K....

but, anyhow  it wont be sung, theres no lyrics , damned

  26. d.... ....

Ian Anderson plays a balalaika in this tune

    d.... ....

    He is a genius.

    d.... ....

He took up flute, he says, because he realised he'd never be as good an electric guitarist as Clapton. However, he is a bloody fine player of string instruments - acoustic guitar, mandolin, balalaika. And, of course, magnificent flautist.

  27. d.... ....

Holy crap, I could be mistaken, but for me the flute and guitar have switched headphones between this version and the one on the album. I was missing the lighthearted guitar chords and found them in the wrong ear!

    d.... ....

    Smoking some good shit!

  28. T.... ....

    @joemac356 absolutely:)

  29. j.... ....

    @TheMaskwa
    so Britishly awesome!

  30. T.... ....

    A quiet giant.

  31. t.... ....

    great song

  32. T.... ....

    so awesomely british!

  33. a.... ....

was at Tull's concert earlier this week in Cologne and they played this song. IA said it was written after the habit of at-the-time base-player Jeffrey, to go to Leicester square, London and watch the nice ladies pass by. Now if one goes to Leicester square he would have to pay for them.

    a.... ....

    Nothing wrong with that.
