Jethro Tull - Cup Of Wonder Lyrics
May I make my fond excuses
for the lateness of the hour,
but we accept your invitation, and we bring you Beltane's flower.
For the May Day is the great day, sung along the old straight track.
And those who ancient lines did ley*
Pass the word and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Pass the wit of ancient wisdom, pass the cup of crimson wonder.
Ask the green man where he comes from, ask the cup that fills with red.
Ask the old grey standing stones that show the sun its way to bed.
Question all as to their ways,
and learn the secrets that they hold.
Walk the lines of nature's palm
crossed with silver and with gold.
Pass the cup and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Join in black December's sadness,
lie in August's welcome corn.
Stir the cup that's ever-filling
with the blood of all that's born.
But the May Day is the great day, sung along the old straight track.
And those who ancient lines did lay
will heed this song that calls them back.
Pass the word and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Pass the wit of ancient wisdom, pass the cup of crimson wonder.

Just A Great All Around Song And Album. Some people hear it for the first time and seem...a little put off by it. This album was my first Tull Experience And I Fell Instantly In Love With It!!
Ian is an immortal, he has lived in many a magical world. I bet he knew Bilbo Baggins.
Cheers.
I used to sneak my brother's Tull albums out of his room and play them when he was out; I caught my dad standing in the hall outside my room, clearly enjoying them (he played blues, jazz and swing most of his live for a living) and one day years later I heard him whistling 'Bouree'-- not the pretty, classical part, but the bit where it goes to heavy bass. <3 Man, I love this stuff.
Pure genius!
Ian Anderson ,up there with Beethoven, and Mozart .
I just came for tea
Pass the cup and pass the lady...sounds like right out of a medieval mead hall

Not so hidden in the lines, the lyrics, are the deep secrets of the spirit of life itself.
Indeed Wizzard, Indeed!
@out99990 ;)
Been listening to this album for years, still puts a smile on my face, Cheers!
Ian Anderson el juglar de el rock
I always thought they were time travelers from the Renaissance !!!
Unlike some of his contemporaries (Plant,Daltrey, Rodgers) Ian Anderson in his 70s sounds like a relic now but till the end of 70s, Tull made some euphoric music
"Pass the cup of crimson wonder"
The pagan grail
Game of Thrones for sure
Doesn't get any tighter than this piece Chaps!!
Great song from a rejuvenated Tull.
The most amazing music. A medieval Robin Hood kind of rock folk. I’ve loved it my entire life.
Al Davies.
You wouldn't happen to be Guitarist Alun Davies per chance?
I love this song, but I found a crazy similarity during the verse with another song by Green Day called “Walking Contradiction”. Perhaps Green Day heard this before they made the song?
this seems to have a nod to disco
no but its wiccanish
nope, hardly... more into a neo-pagan with strong Renaissance ...
One of my most favorite hymns! I love to belt this one out on Beltanes!
I hate that people call this music "folk" - it's hardly what folk is considered. it's not rock either, it's almost an entirely new genre of its own!
ROCK PROGRESIVO
Yeah this album was as progressive rock as anything else they ever did.
Its TULL music
@bogen broom - Yes it's just Tull style, doesn't matter in which musical direction they're travelin'

Tull for president
I love all Tull and this is right at the top!
I saw them once. Stormwatch Tour. The stage theatrics were ridiculous but the classics they performed were great. Yet oddly, some million years later, this album is one of my all time faves. Love it.
Inspiring
JTull is a wonderful mixture of medieval songs with rock ,jazz and blues. One of those bands that should never end......
And a slight but of Rock when they feel like it :)
"Question all unto their ways and learn the secrets that they hold." This one line has had a massive impact on my spiritual life.
+Michael Piatt
or "Ask the old gray standing stones who shows the sun his way to bed."
Yes ,a very good statement
+David Anderson ... " old gray standing stones " , refers to Stonehenge !!!
