Jethro Tull - Cold Wind To Valhalla Lyrics
And ride with us young bonny lass ---
with the angels of the night.
Crack wind clatter --- flesh rein bite on an out-size
unicorn.
Rough-shod winging sky blue flight on a cold wind
And join with us please --- Valkyrie maidens cry
above the cold wind to Valhalla.
Break fast with the gods. Night angels serve
with ice-bound majesty.
Frozen flaking fish raw nerve ---
in a cup of silver liquid fire.
Moon jet brave beam split ceiling swerve and light
the old Valhalla.
Come join with us please --- Valkyrie maidens cry
above the cold wind to Valhalla.
hand maidens.
Midnight lonely whisper cries,
``We're getting a bit short on heroes lately.''
Sword snap fright white pale goodbyes in the
desolation of Valhalla.
And join with us please --- Valkyrie maidens ride
empty-handed on the cold wind to Valhalla.

Jethro Tull Cold Wind To Valhalla Comments
If you travel back to the middle ages and introduce the people to electric guitar, you'll end up with Jethro Tull
One of Tull's best, can't understand why they didn't play this or any other song from this album live (aside from the title track).
In a class of their own.
They only ever play Aqualung, which is great, but there's so much more!
Con justa razón, John Bonham se atrevió a decir que para el, Barriemore Barlow era el mejor baterista del rock inglés.
had the album, saw this concert live. Great memories.
So bloody great, every note ,magical
"And join with us pleaseee" God willing.
And ride with us young bonny lass
With the angels of the night.
Crack wind clatter flesh rein bite
On an out-size unicorn.
Rough-shod winging sky blue flight
On a cold wind to Valhalla.
And join with us please
Valkyrie maidens cry
Above the cold wind to Valhalla.

Frozen flaking fish raw nerve
In a cup of silver liquid fire.
Moon jet brave beam split ceiling swerve
And light the old Valhalla.
Come join with us please
Valkyrie maidens cry
Above the cold wind to Valhalla.
The heroes rest upon the sighs
Of Thor's trusty hand maidens.
Midnight lonely whisper cries,
"We're getting a bit short on heroes lately.
Sword snap fright white pale goodbyes
In the desolation of Valhalla.
And join with us please
Valkyrie maidens ride
Empty-handed on the cold wind to Valhalla.
listening to fire at midnight, right now.
Tull were on fire here, never reached these heights aagain
This reminds me of reading Northern Lights by Philip Pullman
Come join with us please --- Valkyrie maidens cry
above the cold wind to Valhalla.
The heroes rest upon the sighs of Thor's trusty
hand maidens.
Paul Revere could you imagine if tull had a woman singer? they are awesome , already, and the most instrumental band, ever.
Awesome song
Who said the mid-'70s suck't?
I played this album down to the bones, too!
And ride with us young bonny lass
With the angels of the night.
Crack wind clatter flesh rein bite
On an out-size unicorn.
Rough-shod winging sky blue flight
On a cold wind to Valhalla.
And join with us please

This and salamander have a very similar starting sound and riff
I was gonna say just that :) but you posted first.
@Yuval Shtokhamer Both played in DADGAD tuning hence the similarity you spotted. 2 great songs in this spectacular tuning
Possibly intentional? I mean the first 30 seconds of Salamander is the same exact chord progression as the intro to Cold Wind to Valhalla, I'm sure Ian Anderson recognized that when he wrote it. Being that "Too Old to Rock and Roll..." is a concept album, I'm just guessing that Ian thought of Salamander as just a short little throwaway filler track, even though it's probably the best track on that album.
A fusion of Old English, Druid and Rock. Unique even in it’s day. Such great, beautiful music. A treat to your ears!
Is "druid" a musical genre?
"Moon jet brave beam, split ceiling swerve". It would seem Ian had a dose, of 'E. Henry Thripshaw's', it messes up one's prose. (Monty Python, E. Henry Thripshaw's Disease).
#DADGAD :)
Brilliant Tull classic!!
There are no words to describe this band!
So true!
I have Jethro Tull Accoustic...and I play it til everyone wants to smite me!
Exept for "epic" and "legendary"
Very best song and album (minstrel in the gallery) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Midnight lonely whispers cry.."We're getting a bit short on heroes" ....LOL

+Antonio Dias i like songs from the wood a lot too
+Christina Marie Stormwatch fan here! :)
@Christina Marie so do I!
Great sound quality!!
Some sugestions for all you progheads out there:
- Jethro Tull (of course :) )
- King Crimson and Gentle Giant (these are a must)
- Alusa Fallax and Banco del Mutuo Socorsso (Italian prog bands are usually very good)
- Iceberg, Fusioon and Mezquita (Spanish bands, highly recomended)
- José Cid (look for his "10.000 anos depois entre venus e marte" album, it's mind blowing, even if you don't understand the lyrics" ;)
- Mahavishnu Orchestra
- Space Circus
Sempre às ordens! :)
Fermáta, Blue Effect, Flamengo... hidden pearls from eastern Europe.
Magma for zeuhl
Hawkwind for space
Moody Blues for surrealism
Gong for...well, Gong.
and Rush for Rolling the Bones.
Jethro Tull has always been my favourite, but KC has a special place in prog. Other favourites are Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree, Renaissance, Steve Hackett, Camel, Wishbone Ash (Argus) and the Moody Blues.
Ragnarok by Týr, great prog album!
Beautiful... :-)
thanks a lot :D i'm gonna listen to this band
Another group that might be interesting is the band Gryphon. Rather folksy and wonderfully talented, the group itself is a treat to listen to, despite them not being as listened to as Jethro Tull or Gentle Giant.
I'd forgotten about Gryphon, cheers for that.
Gentle Giant is considered one of the lesser known of the great Prog Rock groups, considering they did have such a big impact on some people over the years. My favorite album by them is The Power and the Glory, which still lives up to its reputation to this day. I suppose they all exist in the same sort of stratosphere, since they all are considered progressive.
maybe for that particular song, but gentle giant sounds nothing like jethro tull. Both are awesome bands. But gentle giant is elsewhere... I Guess this is progressive rock while GG is progressive progressive something maybe rock at times.... lol
yeah i heard about them, i'm going to have a listen, thanks man! :)
I recently discovered a band from the same period that sounds rather similar. It is called 'Gentle Giant'. It doesn't really focus that much on the celtic part, but is greatly influenced by folk(lore) and classical music.
I hope you like it and thanks for commenting!
Try Gryphon, they have a similar vibe to jethro Tull, they opened for acts like yes in the 70s
one of the best jethro's song, i really love it: is a fusion between progressive rock sound, perfecly singed by Ian, and celtic influences, who can give me tips about other groups who play this kind of music? I'm in love with celtic/english folk rock!
ElectroSuperNun clannad are an Irish band that are very Celtic, they had big hits in the early eighties with the theme from harrys game and In a lifetime, but you need to check them out if you like Celtic influences and folk rock, they’re masters at it.
agreed. This song gives me chills down my spine. That is something that vanished form todays music.
It's time to save the culture and the music and bring the values of those great years of music, when bands like Jethro Tull were in the houses of real people and those who lived this golden age ! SAY NO TO THE SHITTY MUSIC OF OUR GENERATION!
what's a proghead?
