I am a huge fan of old JT. This relatively newer song lacks the magic of Ian's voice when he was younger. Also, the flute is not as great as it was in 70s. Then this song resembles sounds of Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits.

@Robert Roth I thought Budapest was released in 1987. Dire Straits sent their out their first demo tape in 1977.

And for you who wasn´t there, tha fact is that Jethro Tull was a famous band 1967 several years before Dire Straits 1977. If JT reminds you about DS it´s the other way around. Jethro Tull was first with that sound. Why compare?

@justgivemethetruth It's a nice bit of reciprocity because Tull and Martin Barre inspired Mark Knopfler before Dire Straits were a thing. On Crest of a Knave Tull were clearly inspired by DS.

I first heard this song on the Bob Harris show on BBC radio.. And yes, I immediately thought it was Dire Straits!... whatever, it quickly became one of my all time favourite songs!!.. God bless 'whispering' Bob Harris!

Ian Anderson does almost a perfect take on Mark Knopfler in this particular song and another one from same album (Crest of a knave) " Said She is a dancer" but Can Mark sing like Ian?
Tull is one of the most unique and versatile bands in rock history . Many bands used flute including Progressive rock bands Traffic, King Crimson, Camel and Focus and even a country rock band Marshal Tucker Band ( MTB) and they did it quite well but none made it integral to their music like Tull . MTB comes a close second to JT in making flute essential to their sound

To me, this song is more than just about the city, it’s about the mournful experience of meeting someone who completely captivated you, but only for a fleeting moment, and the sorrowful mysterious tones complement that feeling well. I’m sure everyone here can relate to being served by a waiter at some restaurant that caught your attention on an intellectual level beyond simple lust, but you know you will never see that person again once you leave. That kind of impression is the one I feel from this song.
