I'm sorry, but this song is originally from Slovakia. It's called Dievča z Budmeríc by Karol Duchoň. When he was concerting in Germany, Jennings stole him this beautiful song. And his family had to pay fees for it, but at least we got rebuilt our palace in Budmerice for this. This is really poor, at least words are his own.

But nothing against USA in general, only against the cheap rip-offs of our original folk music

For all you folks coming in from hell or high water and others new to this sound; Check out Billy Joe Shaver. He wrote this song, as well several of the 70s outlaw movement songs. Shaver is the real deal. If you like this song you'll love another Waylon song called "Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again". Best Waylon song ever IMO (Kristofferson written).
Hell or High water tidbit: Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall are Billie Joe Shaver fans. Some of their movies have Shaver songs and/or Shaver himself in them.

Kristofferson is who I grew up listening to. My parents were huge into him. Hated country as an 80’s kid. Now I prefer it(old country)
