Jennings, Waylon - The Taker Lyrics

He's a giver, he'll give her the kind
Of attention that she's never known
He's a helper, he'll help her to open
The doors that she can't on her own.

He's a lover and he'll love her in ways
That she's never been loved before
He's a getter, he'll get her by gettin' her
Into the world she's been hungerin' for.

He's a charmer, he'll charm her with money
And manners that I never learned
He's a leader, he'll lead her across
Pretty bridges he's plannin' to burn.

He's a talker, he'll talk her right off of her feet
But he won't talk for long
'Cause he's a doer, and he'll do her the way
That I'd never, damned if he won't do her wrong.

He's a taker, he'll take her to places
And make her fly higher than she's ever dared to
He'll take his time before takin' advantage
Takin' her easy and slow.

And after he's taken the body and soul
She gives him he'll take her for granted
Take off and leave her taken all of her
Pride when he goes.

He's a taker, he'll take her to places
And make her fly higher than she's ever dared to
He'll take his time before takin' advantage
Takin' her easy and slow...

Waylon, was my favorite singer, this was a favorite song of mine.

    T.... G....

when we were growing up, we listened to all his songs in the 70s and 80s. Those were the good ole days.

  14. J.... G....

Check out Sturgill Simpson. He is being called the savior of country music. Lots, and lots of Waylon influence. please check him out, you won't be sorry.

They'll never be a Waylon or another outlaw worthy of any of there status. But check out some Billy strings. He won't let you down

  19. G.... ....

A brilliant performance by Waylon! A Classic.

  20. P.... H....

Thank you I've been trying to find this version since 1970

  21. J.... C....

Love Kris, but I think Waylon's version of this song is better.

    J.... C....

I have never heard Kris sing this, I don't think he could sing it any better than Waylon.

    J.... C....

    Kris' version is more emotional

  22. G.... A....

One of my all time favourite Waylon's song.

  23. s.... d....

he covered 4 kristo tunes on 'the taker/tulsa' album.

    s.... d....

This is late but it is not Kris song, it was written by Shel Silverstein.

  24. b.... s....

i agree with this completely something about when kris sings u can tell its his even though i agree he cant sing but i listen to it

  25. g.... ....

I love Waylon. But whether you like Kris' voice or not, when you listen to Kris sing them you realize that only Kris can sing his songs and bring out the soul that they were meant to have.

  26. r.... ....

well Kris is no singer, but he is one hell of a song writter

  27. s.... d....

yeh, i know what ya mean. it's easier to sing along with kris if you can get your vocals pretty low. a couple of beers helps. lol. kris himself has admitted that he used to drink quite a bit before a show for confidence. at the first show he ever played without drinks first, he told the audience: "this is the first show i've ever done sober since.....well, this is the first show i've ever done sober". lol.

  28. s.... d....

another great kristofferson tale. only hank & johnny even come close.

  29. s.... d....

he would've died with buddy holly, but he took the bus, instead.

    YES

are you sh***ing me? i did not know shel silverstien helped write this... where can i find a list of other songs he helped with?

Most of the songs by Dr. Hook in the early years. And several Bobby Bare songs.

  34. S.... W....

  36. s.... ....

Check out Marty Robbins version! It's a really great cover!

  37. S.... P....

This is one of my favorite Waylon songs, but I like the "live" version better, found on the expanded "Waylon Live" album on Buhda Recordings. I bought the CD on Amazon. There are 2 expanded Live Albums, one with about 20 songs, the other with about 40, from 2 live concerts in the mid- 1970's. It's Waylon at his best, which mean, simply, THE BEST!

  38. M.... H....

    Waoov!
    One of my greatest favorites!

  39. t.... ....

You got that right!! No one will ever sound as good as Waylon! Ever.
