old five and dimers of course refers to people who used to hang around the woolworths and kresges, or five and ten cent stores,that were big in the south in the 40s and fifties,they often had diners where folks would gather round the luncheon counters drinking coffee eating grilled cheese and chilli,waylon didnt write most of the songs on the album Billy Joe shaver Did,but he sure sang the hell out of them

I believe Billy Joe Shaver wrote all the songs on this album. It was also the first album Waylon recorded with his touring band, not the studio musicians.

My thoughts exactly. English. lived in U.S. for 11yrs. until 11yrs. ago. Heard more C/W than I ever got the chance to here. The older ones are the best, but saw the change with girls in mini skirts showing off everything but talent.

This is written by Billy Joe Shaver and is the title track of BJ's best known record. BJS wrote lots for Waylon & Willie and you'll hear them mention him if you're familiar with their work. And yep, they shore don't make music like this anymore. Although Whitey Morgan & the 78's are carrying on the sound and Shooter has it cornered in spite of what his critics say.

this was one of my favorite albums when i was a kid growing up.. Billy Joe is my cousing on my dad's side and only a few years ago did i realize that people actually think he's a "legend".. i want to thank all of you for your good words about him..
