Jennings, Waylon - Lucille Lyrics
One, two, three, four,
In a barroom in Toledo across from the depot
On a barstool she took off her ring
I thought I'd get closer so I walked on over
When the drinks fin'lly hit her she said I'm no quitter
But I finally quit livin' on dreams
Hungry for laughter and here ever after
I'm after whatever the other life brings.
In the mirror I saw him I closely watched him
I saw the look in his eyes
He came to the woman who sat there beside me
And slowly started to cry.
His big hands were calloused he looked like a mountain
For a minute I thought I was dead
But he started shaking his big heart was breaking
As he turned to the woman and said.
You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille
With a four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some sad times, lived through some bad times
But this time your hurtin' won't heal.
You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille.
After he left us I ordered more whiskey
She said let's go have a ball
From the lights of the barroom to a rented hotel room
We walked without talkin' at all.
Lord, she was a beauty but when she came to me
She must've thought that I'd lost my mind
I couldn't hold her 'cause the words that he told her
Came back to me time after time.
You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille
With a four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some sad times, lived through some bad times
But this time your hurtin' won't heal.
You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille.

Sad story on both ends. The guitar is tops!!!!!!
It knew Kenny sang this but I didn't know he did too. I like it. I think better.. Yes.
Brilliant version, great guitar. R I P.
Waylon Jennings é demais, fantástico!! Para sempre...
Guitar solo is 💥💥💥
Omg I used to listen to this song all the time. Now that I’m older man it shakes me to listen to the actual meaning and his voice! Ugh! Gorgeous. Sends shills down my spine. People have said that Conway Twitty can sing panties off but man Waylon’s better at it.
I like it a lot. Just as good as Kenny Roger's version...😍
Egon Spengler this one is objectively better
You picked a fine to leave me Lucile................Fine the Govt. can be your daddy now.....
Love Waylon
Fine Time Reggie Young is tearing up the guitar love it
Lets all prayer for Reggie Young's family Reggie pass away Jan 17, 2019
Rip. Mr Young
My mind is so ingrained with Kenny Rogers original song Lucille. But, I love the way Waylon does it! He does justice to any song he does. I didn't follow Waylon's music until I started watching YouTube videos in the early 2000s. I never heard his music so good before. Yeah I love the guitar sound, and Waylon does that often.
The Guitar solo at the end is jamming love it.
a sorry Kenny this is my fav version
I did not have 400 children
THE KING !!!!
Ok. Waylon owns the song now. Best version!
Totally agreed...I only knew Kenny Rogers version which I think is awesome, but this version tops it for me
Best version
I love this song with Waylon singing it
Reggie Young is a guinus on that guitar its classic music Waylon & Reggie & Ralph Mooney
Jesse Colter was a good woman for Waylon...and not bad looking at that.
Waylon was and still is what Real Country Music is all about!!
Waylon is EPIC
A great song and arrangement! I believe the Telecaster pickin' is actually session ace-Reggie Young. -Ken Nelson
I love Waylon Jennings but Kenny Rodgers sings it better
You guys are all idiots. The guitar lead is definitely Kenny "Gambler" Rogers. He guested on this album but could not receive credits due to musicians union. He also did the original choreography for tap dancing solo in the movie Grease. I assert this to be 100% true.
This song would bring a tear to my eye for some time after my divorce.
AFTER MY DIVORCE TOO
I SHARE YOUR PAIN MY FRIEND
WAYLON you was so much better then Kenny Rogers on that song....wish you would have cut it as a single that year even tho you both had it out at the same time....always liked yours BEST..
Waylon did a great job on this song the solo at the end is Reggie Young who is by far one great guitarist
Mooney's steel makes all the difference.
Waylon kicked it into over-drive at the end he knows how to play that sweet guitar.
God Bless ya Hoss
Best ever for me!!!
AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!!!♡♡♡♡😘
Waylon Jennings I love YOUR version of this song and it fits your style...know one better for sure...I miss you and your music..
The Man....
Does anybody know where to find the tabs or a video on the solo? Would be very much appreciated!
I want to 'like' this again and again .... the picking at the end 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Picked a Fine Time is a great song by Waylon who is playing the guitar at the end whoever it is they are playing the guitar so good.
R.I.P. Hoss
400 children is a lot
Waylon LEGEND Jennings is best country legend ever..Nashville never will get something better...hell he is country..left a standard never to be matched..they try..lol..r.i.p
He'd roll over in his grave if he saw the DOH movie they made
A Fine Time is a all time Great that solo at the end so gooood Reggie Young play it brother.
Waylon back in the day was on drugs so bad but he could play that sweet guitar.
R.I.P. Hoss
Some of The Best "Pick'n" Ever Played!
The good days... 2 channels tv.. sweet love, sweet family. Cold war was cold.
Top 3 of my Favorites of Your Songs Mr. W. Jennings' ...Blues Eyes is up there..........Luckenbach is in my #2......
This is simply a great song. The Waylon, Kenny, and Billy Currington versions are all amazing
Better than Kenny's version...and that's before the solo at the end
Great version. It wasn't till YouTube that I really got into Waylon. I love his music!
Eric cartmann got a fine taste in music this sick little bastard!
Like the guitar solo
he has Kenny beat bad. and who disliked Waylon that's crazy
great song........but sad.
The timing at the end solo is typical Waylon, not easy to play tough..
remind's me of my ex. I think i'll go get me beer now 2!
Bradley Jackson the
just made me drink another beer.....love it
Theo Cortez Come on Theo, you would've had that other beer regardless. It is a great song though.
Invite... I am about to drink one...
where the hell can i learn how to lay that guitar at the end xD
LeslieBMusic watch some live videos of Waylon's technique, learn to play by ear.
no no yeah I'm going to have too lol thanks buddy, can you play?
LeslieBMusic been playing since I was 4! Lol. I started learning how to play by ear around 16-17, and it really took me to the next level. It's definitely worth doing.
no no damn! I haven't been playing that long, I didn't know any chords until about a year ago, I'm 21 iv been playing since I was about 15/16 I could play real chords but didn't know what they was until a year ago haha! I could just get a sound out of a guitar but now I know chords it has taken me to a different level but I still have a lot to learn like learning by ear lol I'd love to learn but wouldn't know where to start or how to start lol thanks for the replys I honestly appreciate them, I wasn't expecting them you see :)
we love you Waylon for ever !!
Lucille is a great song the end is where Waylon plays that Guitar it sounds so good I could listen to this song all day long.
Amo el blues
Real music,Real Talent.
Damn, I miss old Waymore
Amazing version. His voice just goes right through your heart. Thanks for putting this up!
I think I like this version better. than Kenny's Kenny Rogers wrote music man about Waylon of course that was also a title of one of Waylon's albums
Pour moi un des plus grand chanteur de country.Super!!! Quelle guitare!!!
Daniel Lion Yes, you definitely live the song through his singing.
I like this version!! Hes got a strong voice...
" ... ... I'm no quitter, but I f i n a l l y quit livin' on dreams.
Hungry for laughter and here ever after, I'm after whatever the other life brings."
H o w very many of us ? !
As ONLY .Lovely Waylon. can croon it !
That guitar solo is epic
Every Waylon Jennings solo guitar pickin is epic. No one picks the guitar like the real king of country
Vi Sau damn right I'm 16 and this all I listen none of that country pop bullshit!
Epic as fuck
Agreed, the guitar bleed out is special and I'll settle for Reggie, although Waylon himself has been known to warp some strings!
I have the original LP from 1977 and it is stated that:
lead guitar - Reggie Young and Steel Guitar is Ralph Mooney.
The guitar-part is original a steel-guitar played by Ralph Mooney
+Hans-Joachim Eßer wow. thanks for the clarification. it is a truly epic piece. thanks : )
That is no steel that is Waylon's Fender.
I'll say it again: the guitar solo work is Mark Knopfler. Be in no doubt about that, I'll happily have a face-to-face ruck with anyone who says it isn't. I'll fly oot to Texas or wherever the fuck it is to prove I'm right, man! Just listen to it and then listen to some Mark Knopfler playing fingerpicking electric guitar and tell me I'm wrong man, man!
I'm tired of talking to you, thanks for wasting my time. You can go on believing what you want, that's fine, hopefully some day someone else will have the energy and patience to prove you wrong.
I agree one hundred percent that Waylon can't play like Mark Knopfler. The only thing I was refuting is that this sounded anything like Mark Knopfler to begin with. And I did send you several videos of Waylon playing lead in his own unique style which matched up far closer to this than anything Mark ever recorded. My pride isn't hurt at all. And I was just being honest that I'm tired. I wasn't trying to have some sort of debate, and I see no point in arguing, so I'm not defeated. Just tired of trying to prove a point to someone that totally ignores the evidence and the points I have made. And if you can show me proof of Mark Knopfler playing this or the same guitar licks, then please do so. I will gladly accept that he could've played it. And if you can't do that, then you're just as much defeated as I am.
Bollocks it's Reggie Young ... that's Mark Knopfler, man.
I think thats Reggie Young doing the guitar work on this song.
No that is Waylon, listen to his music.
Absolutely loved the Kenny Rogers song. This is another version, more touching and more raw, gets you in the 'you know where'. Adore it. Love ya both Kenny and Waylon.
Thanks teddie488! Keep up the work!
The guitar-solo at the end is just fantastic
gunnar kras muy perfecto..uh uh
Fuckyea
I started a facebook page to try and bring a more traditional country sound back to the radio. Please help me by going to facebook/saverealcountrymusic
natalie sharp
what a beautiful idea
and sorely needed
I know this is 5 years old lol, and I’m still not on FB(never have been) but I really hope it’s going well. That’s what country music needs now....cause let’s face it the “country music” now is just God awful, I mean idk what the hell happened to country music
Waylon isn't traditional country
Hoss's version -10 times better than Kenny Rogers.......then again, anything Waylon did was 10 times better than Kenny Rogers.Case closed!!
dang...how did he play the guitar like that?........wooooohooooo
Love you Waylon!
Waylon made that B bender talk
love the guitar at the end!!!
He had 4 telecxasters with the leather
Really? That doesn't sound like a B bender to me - sounds like regular string bending. Was that wacky tele with the leather tooling a bender?
