Jennings, Waylon - He Went To Paris Lyrics

He went to Paris lookin' for answers
To questions that bothered him so
He was impressive young and agressive
Savin' the world on his own.

Warm summer breezes French wine and cheeses
Put his ambition at bay
The summers and winters scattered like splinters
And four or five years slipped away.

He went to England played the piano
And married an actress named Kim
They had a good life she was a good wife
And bore him a young son named Jim.

All of the answers and all of the questions
He locked in his attic one day
'Cause he liked the quiet clean country livin'
And twenty more years slipped away.

War took his baby bombs killed his lady
And left him with only one eye
His body was battered his whole world was shattered
All he could do was just cry.

While the tears were fallin' he was recallin'
Answers that he never found
So he hopped in a freighter skidded the ocean
And left England without a sound.

Now he lives in the island fishes the pilin'
And drinks his green label each day
Writin' his memoirs losin' his hearin'
But he don't care what most people say.

After eighty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he'll smile and say
Well, some of it's magic probably tragic
But I had a good life all the way.

He went to Paris lookin' for answers
To questions that bothered him so...

Awesome, being from Florida,,, But who originally wrote it ?

Just when you get this song outta your head after many decades. With every nuance of heart that Mr. Buffet put in, you crave the story again. Wow, you think you’ll just pull that song up again, ...real quick listen.. You won’t cry this time. Then.........you get Waylonized! 😍

    P.... M....

    Very, very fine cover!

  3. e.... ....

    Wonderful cover.

  4. D.... D....

How cool would it be to have Waylon cover one of your songs.

  5. V.... C....

He went to Paris is my favorite waylon Jennings song , was hard to find it

  6. P.... R....

One of my favorite Jimmy Buffett songs. Nice job, Waylon!

  7. S.... G....

Bob Dylan said Jimmy was one of his favorite songwriters because of this song.

  8. J.... H....

    Lol who

  9. S.... G....

    Love it!!

  10. E.... M....

Much respect for Waylon always, but I like Buffett's original better. Waylon's version is too fast/busy. Starts out as a ballad but becomes midtempo. Not sure why he did it, but it detracts from the song...IMO.

  11. P.... H....

    Waylon WAS everyman.

  12. v.... ....

Wow! I've loved this song since hearing it from Jimmy's album years ago. I had no idea that Waylon did it, too! Awesome! :)

  13. L.... m....

God he was Great, how i miss the days of the 70's.

  14. J.... S....

Actually it is Waylon singing Jimmy and Waylon. They co-wrote the song.

    J.... S....

+James Swanson It would appear you're wrong

    J.... S....

    Oh I am never wrong...

    J.... S....

Buffett wrote this alone....so apparently your streak ended

    J.... S....

no....they did not write the song together

    J.... S....

    Waylon didnt co-write this song.

  19. P.... J....

I got an album that had this song on it for 5 bucks in the value bin at wal mart. It's called "All American Country", maybe that'll help.

  20. P.... ....

I think this is my favorite J B song. Waylon has a lot of great memory songs for me too and this rendition was great to hear. Thank you for posting it. I've never heard him sing this before.

  21. d.... ....

    I can't find Waylon's rendition on iTunes...any suggestions?

  22. d.... ....

I only know I like this one best, and I'd bet Waylon did it his way.

  23. P.... ....

Great version of a great song.
You don't need to compare versions, enjoy them both.

  24. j.... ....

There is nothing like him. I am a parrot head but even JB would admit that Waymore had a good take on this classic. There were a couple of production errors though. The instrumental change at the beginning of the second verse was distracting and the tag of the girls voices was not good. But, Waylon was his normal near perfect, one take self. Damn, I miss him so. If you want to hear great Waylon interpretation listen to "Learning the Game" off the Buddy Holly tribute album. It is fine.

  25. t.... ....

honestly i like the jimmy buffett version better

    t.... ....

tcwf21496 yes me to but Waylon was great also

  26. i.... ....

Just gotta tell ya that there were afew times when I heard this song and was just so happy to stil be alive. Much Love Waylon!!

  28. C.... B....

Thanks, Ted. My family got me into all the good music.
They would've made some damn fine music! I wonder if we could talk Shooter into doing something with Buffett now.

No problem. Thanks for the great track!

I'm a Parrothead AND a Waylon fan. This is nicely done, but I have the original somewhere (not bad for an 18-year-old, huh?) they both have their ups and downs in comparisons. I just wish Jimmy and Waylon could have done a duet on this one.

  30. J.... M....

thats one the most rediculous statements ive ever read.
