I like this version but the best was Roy Orbison.

I grew up with Waylon in Littlefield, Texas. 38 miles Northwest of Lubbock, Texas. He was about 3 years older and first played music at the old Palace Theatre. Later met his uncle Elvis Shipley in Lovington, New Mexico where I served as a District Judge. Elvis drove a water truck for an oilfield Servicing Company. Elvis told me a lot about Waylon I did not know.

As a life long Waylon fan I can honestly say he did not beat Roy Orbison on this one. Most of the time I like his version better but Roy is just in another league of his own. It's a good cover tho I give Waylon props for doing it

Thats your listening preference. If you wanted to impress the ladies with your voice you would have chosen Waylons voice over Roys. When it comes to singing the panties off the ladies Waylon is a lightyear ahead.

I agree Waylon did a stellar performance of this song , but Roy has a voice that cannot be replaced, and I am a life long fan of both.my dad had Roy's records and mom had Waylon Jennings records , so you could say I had the best of both worlds

It was a joke. And yes, he politely gave up his seat for Big Bopper.

Afterwards, he felt guilty for both.

Waylon is my favourite artist and like Richie said no one person can sing crying like Roy, butt i'm so impressed that Waylon even tried the cover. Waylon nailed it

It's an okay cover. Still can't beat Orbison's version though.

Brilliant version no doubt. Does not get as high on the last note though. Remember what Elvis said about Roy ....Hes the only one that can out sing me.

Waylon was good but he damn sure couldn't top Orbison on that song. Look up  Unchained Melody by Waylon for one of the best covers ever.

Had a friend who was a guitar player and singer in Phoenix when Waylon was playing at Lucky's.  He played a short time with Waylon.  He said that when Waylon would sing  "Crying" people would go crazy at the end of the song when he hit that high note.  Waylon is a legend with an untouchable voice and was also a great song writer and telecaster picker.  Whenever I get to thinking I'm a pretty good singer, I listen to Waylon and just marvel and become humbled.  I miss him and his music so much...but he left us volumns to listen to.

Johnny Cash was the best singer, but Waylon was great.

Brenda, usually I think its stupid to use that phrase but in Waylons case I tend to agree. Can only imagine how many girls Waylon nailed in his time, at least until the diabetes destroyed this circulation in a certain place but that was likely many decades later.

Waylon Like Cash was always best when the songs had short vocal ranges so they could just over power their back round music....this is not a good example of Waylon overpowering a song.  The Song wins on this one....
