Jennings, Waylon - Cindy Of New Orleans Lyrics
Down by the river where the big boats go by
Each day you could see them as evening was nigh
They planned to be married at the first sign of spring
And Jim would take Cindy to see New Orleans.
Jim talked of the day he'd make Cindy his own
He saved his money to buy her a ring
And take his sweet Cindy to see New Orleans.
[Instrumental]
One day a riverboat gambler chanced by
And captured her heart with his sweet words and lies
He told her come with me and you'll be a queen
So they left together to see New Orleans.
Each day you can see Jim though years have gone by
Down by the river where the big boats go by
She wrote she'd return at the first sign of spring
He's waiting for Cindy to see New Orleans...

nice song
I think this was his first album with RCA somebody tell me if that's wrong.
Just love this song
That's it, that's the song that I named our oldest daughter after. Yes, this album was Waylon's best in my opinion.
You're welcome. If I'm not mistaken, several of Waylon's early albums were reissued on CD, this being one of them. Try amazon
You're welcome Lori, I agree wholeheartedly.

city of new orleans
waylons best album. this one is even written by waylon himself
@mommenon1 You're welcome. I love all Waylon's early recordings. His voice was so pure. He really had a natural gift for phrasing that never left him. It is a shame most of the songs are so short. Almomst all of the early recording are just a bit over 2 minutes until Waylon came into his own and had a hand in the production and arrangement.
Lovely, lovely tune.....Thank you so much!!!!! I am cruising, happily, through Waylon's oldies as you can see and loving it!!!! lol... A pity that the old songs are so short!!! TC my friend...Marianne
@sandstoney Great. I love it when someone finds something they hadn't heard before. Glad you both found and listened to it...you're welcome
