Jenkins, Mick - The Session Lyrics
It was 6 o'clock in the eve, we thinkin' 'bout goin' H.A.M
Shots of New Amsterdam
And Key was rolling the trees
A couple shorties came through, shoulders cold as the breeze
Added a liquor shoulders increases a couple degrees
We laughin, We feelin'
Immaculate pad is full of some batches and bitches
Lookin' for bachelorette to doc the dab master
The ought of a first impression
I cracked a joke and she smiled and we got right back to the session
We vibin' to Mrs. Badu
Open another a bottle
Them hoes was a couple 7's and now they lookin' like models
Comfortable in her skirt
Shoulders had mellowed out
Shorty was still sittin' but hips had started to twerk
Twerk
Shorty twerk
Work
Shorty work
Now peep how shit change when shoulders start to relax might lead to deep strains
And necks and arched backs might keys and key-chains
Get left
A text
In all caps that said
"Aw damn I left it"
And I be thinkin' to myself
"Aw damn my sessions" [x3]
Fool
We wasn't doin' shit
Sittin' in the crib
Niggas came through, fucked around and made it a session [x3]
[x2]
Bring a bottle
Bring some tree
Bring some shorties if you fuckin' with the free
Or be a boss, nigga bring all three
[x2]
The other night you woulda swore that we blew up
All my peoples 'round me, all this liquor on the table I was drinkin' till I threw up
Bottle in my hands told my mans pour me two up
Dapper niggas here, dope, V-Necks and crew cuts
Reset
We blew up, no recess
We too close and too Free
No deals not even close
Not even pull hoes, No Bruce Lee
More Ryu, we kicked it
Had golden and purple and light green prescriptions
Then rolled 'em and burned 'em, it might be the symptoms
That got me afloat, fool
We wasn't doin' shit
Sittin' in the crib
Niggas came through, fucked around and made it a session [x3]
[x2]
Bring a bottle
Bring some tree
Bring some shorties if you fuckin' with the free
Or be a boss, nigga bring all three
[x2]

Jenkins, Mick The Session Comments
You'd never expect it from him right?
Please don't confuse shade with the shadows from dim lights
I been bright
I been in spaces dark as midnight
My pen write on both
My insight on both is skin tight
In spite of the fact that I'm inside the hoax
All my niggas got a horcrux or two or four
We don't die, we multiply but you knew that already
Shift the culture, we do that already
If you don't give me credit for nothing but making kids in Chicago drink more water
I proved that already
I'm someone with influence who'll use that to better the youth
And that don't make me better than you
But as far as this rap shit goes
If Drake ain't holding down Quentin Miller why the fuck would I ever give any credit to you
We learning the business
We keep us some sage
We shit on these niggas then burn up some incense
Drop off the album and turn up the interest
Make 'em pay interest
Since they was so disinterested before
Like it wasn't this intricate
Or we didn't use instruments before
Check that insolence at the door
Or, it can get a lot more intimate than you expected
The underrated and often neglected
Are often expected to deal with it
[Hook: Mick Jenkins]
I think y'all niggas got me fucked up
But I cannot go for that, no, oh-oh
I think y'all niggas got me fucked up (fucked up, fucked up, fucked up)
But I cannot go for that, no, oh-oh
(God did not make me that way, God did not make me that way)
[Verse 2: Mick Jenkins]
And as I was saying
The underrated and often neglected
Are often expected to deal with it
Like we in here off a meal ticket or something
The lack of respect is astounding
And I refuse to accept it
Niggas talking crazy
(I think y'all niggas got me fucked up)
And you not finna tell me that I'm crazy
Cause I choose to correct it
Rather than play unaffected
Check my demeanor
Still waters run deep as the love and the serve from Serena
Balls in my court and we serving subpoenas
Don't miss this jet ho
Don't miss this view
Straight truth, no tricks, no presto
It's drink more water, don't trip off petrol
Just sip the kool-aid
The same wrist that makes this whip the Pesto
Break bread with me
Better yet, bake bread with me
We be so worried bout how much we need the dough
We tend to forget the little things we need to know
Like how to knead the dough
If done properly it won't spread so thin when your people show
It happened to me, I peeped it though
Before I hit my peak, young Pistol Pete
I could thread the needle through three peep holes
I'm four iPhones and two pencils deep at this point
The cliffs don't seem so steep at this point
And all I see is wolves and sheep at this point
No Lil' Bo Peep
[Hook: Mick Jenkins]
I think y'all niggas got me fucked up
But I cannot go for that, no, oh-oh
I think y'all niggas got me fucked up (fucked up, fucked up, fucked up)
But I cannot go for that, no, oh-oh
(God did not make me that way, God did not make me that way)
[Bridge: Michael Anthony]
Who could wish
Who could wish, wish and go away, oh
Dreaming is living
It's your world now
[Outro]
Water[s] was just the introduction to the idea that there's this truth...niggas been missin', right? But I feel like people, don't know what that truth was. I wasn't very specific about what that was. So...in looking for how to be specific about what that is because there's so much that needs to be told to people, you understand what I'm saying. Uh, love came to me as a, as, what should be a focus because that's the focus of Jesus' message on Earth. You know what I'm saying and if that's what leads my life, which is my faith then it only makes sense to start there

Mmmmmmmmm...I get goosebumps listening to this musical performance. I love the piano, and with Mick riding on it, mmm, it's more than what meets the eye and ears, it feels like my soul separates from the body and Im taken to place where time doesnt exist. Its too amazing!!!!!!
2:04-2:20 you can literally hear and see his emotion. He almost chokes up because of the realness of those bars. Tooooo much water
The cliffs don't seem so steep at this point

That Drake ain't holding Quentin Miller bar was 🔥🔥 and too true. Q.M. Is too nice and drake wont acknowledge him.
anyone have the piano for this?
can anybody watch this and then say rap isn't art? like? Rap is straight up poetry and these verses by mick are like more than music to my ears but love to my ears
I came here to recover from the XXL freestyles
no way...
this is deep....
When Mick started singing I already knew he was spiritually woke, the sound is euphoric. I can tell by how he rhymes he's much aware of this world
Lyrical skills... Lyrical content... Lyrical spills....
!!! The essense of rap is that it is poetry over a rhythm.. The rap/poetry Mick writes and then recites is really deep conceptually; It's hard to even fully understand as he raps what he's conveying, however, I believe this is how rap is suppsoed to exist, to express yourself and how you really feel and what you really think about you/others/your-world, as opposed to completely focusing on bling, fads, and insults.. For that reason I respect Micks music and I'm glad he shares it with the world
I love this version so much more, the tone just seems so much more fitting
id like to see more of this from modern rappers honestly this was fire
id like to see more of this from modern rappers honestly this was fire
