Considering she's British it seems odd hearing her come out with such strong American pronunciations of words like "Cain't" and "Staind". Maybe she wants it to sound harsh; maybe she doesna even know she's doing it (though I doubt it); perhaps she's trying to imitate the diction of Simone, Franklin, etc. Whatever, she goes a wee bitty over the top with it, making it more pronounced than the Americans do. rthere's no need for it.

She's got pipes, but she's hamming it up a little too much for my tastes. Sing the damn song, not act it out, especially being up there with Jeff Beck. Has she ever heard of "call and response?" Throw a vocal line at him and let him throw something right back at her on his guitar and the audience would go nuts! Good performance, but could have been so much better.

I can't help but think the reason she didn't make it big was because she started out as this quirky, English hippy and pretty quickly became something she wasn't, trying too hard to please an American audience, trying to be some kind of soul diva, she was never that. It didn't help that she started speaking with an American twang either, and that night at the Brits where she was strutting around on stage in that lycra dress like she was Marilyn Monroe or something, that pretty much ended her career, at least here in England. Shame because she certainly has the voice. I guess some people just let the slightest bit of fame go to their head.

You couldn't be more wrong. The fact that some Brits are accent snobs has nothing to do with the path she chose. Do a little research. I think you will find that she chose personal happiness over grabbing for the fame. Search JSTWT and you will find a few hundred videos of a very talented happy person making music her own way.
