Jason Reeves - Dinosaurs Lyrics
I wish that everyone will crumble
Fall to dust on the floor
And blow away
And I wanted everything to tumble
And blow away with wind
Oh, dinosaurs
Around the Earth a while ago
They were fading peaceful
Then they went away
But we
We will never been like them at all
It's so mean and powerful
Listen til we burn it all away
I wish that everyone will crumble
Fall to dust on the floor
And blow away
I wanted everything to crumble
Fall to dust on the floor
And start all over again
Start all over again and again

one thing that scared the piss outta me was that giant bee and centipede he animated
Ray harryhausen: destroyed New York, San Francisco, and Washington DC. Learn from this, comic book villains
Except thanos, he’s got enough
I've had a great appreciation & vast respect for RH ever since I was little & had first seen the artistic beauty/grand efforts of his work. And admittedly it quite possibly ruined me on most nearly all CGI/non-animated style special effects...May you rest in peace Ray!
After applying a bump map to a 3D model you have to render it to check your lighting. Its not the same as sculpting and building your own model then lighting it and seeing it right in front of you where you can adjust everything by eye sight. That's where the artistry is. As an amateur 3D modeler and renderer I'm fascinated by the software but I'd much rather see stop motion and practical effects in film.
I too saw Jason and the Argonuats before any other ray harryhausen film, but my favorite scene was of talos
saw seventh voyage on TV when I was around 8 years old, needless to say I became obsessed wish I had met ray,he was an absolute genius, modern monster films just don't do it for me,I still prefer the original king Kong to the newest ones
Absolutely amazing. I grew up watching those Harryhausen films. Some were better than others, but the special effects always made me watch until the end, just in case something else happened. That kind of movie magic is timeless.
Ray Harryhausen is the best and as growing up he was my hero too love his movies and his movies are better then today's movies..THANK YOU MR RAY WE LOVE YOU!!!
Thank god we got Onion Skinning.
And can scroll through the camera's footage as we take a pic.
Or look at our files uploaded to our computers with those pictures.
A genius
I remember watching this when it first aired! Blimey I feel old
Most CGI I have watched is complete TOILET, the action is so fast and the screen so cluttered you can't even see what is going on. Ray Harryhausen was a genius.
Ray is a legend an to me stop motion will never get old
fucking idiot
Here's my (honest) opinion
Stop-Motion > animatronics/puppets > CGI
As someone who has worked with CGI professionally, in addition to compositing, I really think that stop motion, if used today, could be used to create a more realistic image and effect than CG.
The end of an era.
Has the pleasure of meeting harryhausen in Glasgow in the 90s. He was showing his creature creations at a convention and managed to get a pic with him. Moment I will always cherish. He was to become like his creations. Legendary !
Ray Harryhausen -- One of my Heros
Seeing Ray animate and then interact with the skeleton is the greatest thing ever
This needs to be on a t-shirt. "I destroyed New York, I destroyed San Francisco... it gets tiresome. - Ray Harryhausen".
Even to this day the stop motion carves a niche. Its equal to Jurassic Park range but I wish more work could have been done using the technique. Movies like Valley of Gwangi could use some more creatures and even King Kong has omitted parts. The best parts of stop motion is the beautiful color and landscapes. It gives life to the word prehistoric while current films set the animals too from our time and space. It lessens the mystique.
The only depressing thing about Harryhausen's career is that he was pushed into B-movies out of necessity. So many great effects scenes were created for movies of such low quality in terms of dialogue, acting, etc. Shame things didn't work out differently.
+Nathan Paull The dialogue and everything is fine to me, it doesn't take money to write a movie, that's cheap and easy really. The depressing thing to me is how even though he had total artistic freedom, he really never got to do exactly what he wanted because he was always held back by money and time. He only could do a limited amount of scenes and things in every movie because it took forever and it was just one man and tiny budgets. His stuff is the greatest to me, but if he had larger budgets we could have seen so much more amazing things he never could do with small budgets and limited time he had.
Not all of Ray's films were B movies!! Ray hated it when people would say that. The black and white films were certainly B movies but most of his color films were tightly budgeted A films! And Clash of the TItans had a very large budget in 1981! The films that had composer Bernard Herrmann using the London Symphony Orchestra to record the score were definitely NOT B movies! And The 3 Worlds Of Gulliver had its premiere with the Royal Family in London as a Royal premiere event! B movies don't have that opportunity, believe me.
Unfortunately true. He had to eat, so the movies were often just showcases going from one fantastic creation to the next. The important idea was that he was able to make a living while perfecting his art.
Imagine what he could have achieved working with the budgets of today. I can imagine, that with the assistance of blur motion, an argument could be made to limit the use of CGI.Alas, we will never know...
"lost in the wilderness of science fiction films"
HOW condescending!
That's why I appreciate that filmmakers like Tim Burton are keeping stop motion alive. I also like that lately their has been a push for more practical effects in movies from audience rather than just CGI.
I agree.
The children of the Hydra's teeth... the legend and the art of Ray Harryhausen will continue. I have devoted my life to this artform and have sworn a personal oath to it's continuation in addition to it's memory.
They ate the crab & the giant chicken in Mysterious Island.
Charles Schneer seems like the right guy for the job; he's glib & seemed to know how to talk to the suits.
I think I might find stop motion more interesting than cartoons and CGI animation, I can appreciate different forms of art but there's something about stop motion that is just so eye catching! And my mom showed me that Hansel and Gretel film by Harryhausen and I was really intrigued by it, Sinbad as well.
