Jason Isbell - Traveling Alone Lyrics
Mountain's rough this time of year
Close the highway down
They don't warn the town
I've been fighting second gear for fifteen miles or so
Trying to beat the angry snow
But what good does knowing do with no one to show it to
And I've grown tired of traveling alone
Tired of traveling alone
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Won't you ride with me
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Tired of traveling alone
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Won't you ride?
I quit talking to myself
And listening to the radio a long, long time ago
Damn near strangled by my appetite
In Ybor City on a Friday night
Couldn't even stand upright
So high, the street girls wouldn't take my pay
She said come see me on a better day, she just danced away
And I've grown tired of traveling alone
Tired of traveling alone
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Won't you ride with me
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Tired of traveling alone
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Won't you ride with me, won't you ride
Won't you ride?
Pain in the outside lane, I'm tired of answering to myself
Heart like a rebuilt part, I don't know how much it's got left
How much it's got left
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Tired of traveling alone
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Won't you ride with me
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Tired of traveling alone
I've grown tired of traveling alone
Won't you ride with me, won't you ride
Won't you ride?

Great song terrible video/.
Man this Elon Musk can sing !!
Oh my God I have found a new favorite artist. What a great singer songwriter. You blew this old grandma's mind.
Brilliant
Jason Isbell has become my new favorite singer songwriter. Extraordinary!
Hate travelling alone.
Find yourself a man who will sing to you like that on your wedding day!!!
After being a social outcast all your life with barley any connection to the human world, you do get tired of being alone but you also get used too it after awhile and sooner or later you become a sociopath well that's my life story atleast
You know country music has gone to hell, when Jason isn't considered fully in the genre, he gives me a real country feel that only old school real country can do, but since county has gotten so bad that now he is not considered country music anymore sad sad day in America
If this song does not touch you, I am sorry. One of his best and Amanda is butter.
His Missus is gorgeous.
I misheard the line “how much it’s got left” as “how much shit Scott left” and now I can’t hear it any other way.
I love to play Travelling Alone by Passenger, another great song
I went through a major depression and as I was clawing my way out of the depths of that hell I can remember many many nights setting in the dark, in a tractor, in my truck, screaming this song at the top of my lungs crying, so so very tired of traveling alone. It still makes me tear up when I hear it today because in some weird way it was my anthem cry to God. Today I am living and no longer traveling alone, God bless
this comment made my eyes less dry in a good way lol. it's awesome to hear. no twisty words or shady meanings
Thank you! I have shared those same feelings. Big ups to you brother!
I love you!!!
This song reminds me of my ex boyfriend who died of cancer when I was 10. I now realize, 3 years later, how important it is to cherish evry moment you get with them because you don't know when their time will come to go.
I love you and miss you, Jack. I hope you rest peacefully in Heaven. God bless all of you who lost someone you love.
Never tire of this song.
Musical poets painting soundful feelings 🎶🌎💞🕊️
This brings to mind the song Traveling Light By Joel Hansen and Sara Groves which is a great song to pick you up.
It always amazes me when someone can thumbs down something so honest and heartfelt. Here is a throat punch to you thumbs down! Cheers.
This guy is so legit! One of the best out there
Jason has quickly become my favorite songwriter !!!
We absolutely love your songs, we are a duo from Melbourne Australia and record in Nashville- we strive to achieve your lyrical genius- thank you.
Listening from Ybor City right now! Good stuff Jason.
Shane Gillis yall
Lovely, enjoyed this and then some.
Yo is that Moulton?😂 Stay repping Jason!
In my 45yrs of being on this earth, I've spent a good portion traveling it alone. At 32, I married my soul mate. I lost her 2yrs and 98 days later. I traveled the world over the next 6 yrs with out leaving my house. Then I traveled to Europe by myself and couldn't be happier. A few months later, I met the woman, who was my 2nd love. 2 weeks with her in Italy showed me how great it was traveling with someone. She ran away a few months later. The next summer, I was standing in the middle of the Outback, looking up at the Milky way and it showed me how alone I was. Four years later, I'm a dad and in a failing relationship. Sometimes I think it's best to travel alone...
You and your family are so such beautiful people..... Inspiration to us all.
Wow. This is almost as good as Never Gonna Change.
Fits a travelling pipewelder.
Why in Canada did it take this long for me to find him?
Nice song
Don't be deceived. Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, and Tyler Childers are no more country than Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean. It's just a different brand of "not being country", a hipster brand. Think about the overly sophisticated instrumentation in most of their songs, the futuristic sounds and abstract content that go beyond simplicity and sound more like the jackassery of a Buddhist monk. They're no better, they're just better at deception.
They won't save you from bro country, they'll just create another faux brand. They're completely destroying any rural aspect that country WAS founded on. They're watering it down just like Luke Bryan. They're turning it urban.
@A Scientist Jason Isbell is the real deal. Also this is what you call "overly sophisticated instrumentation?"
What the hell are you talking about?!?! Have you listened to Isbell much? "Sophisticated instrumentation"? Have you seen him/the band live? Nothing sophisticated about. Although Isbell frequently mentions country influences but also gospel and blues and rock and etc, he is the last person that would call his music country. You're just plain wrong!
Jason Isbell has never said he was country, not once. He's written a country song or two, for sure, but otherwise he's a songwriter, not a "country songwriter". He writes good songs from a southern perspective and sings with a southern accent. You can stick with your labels and narrow perspective - I'll enjoy the full assortment of the musical landscape. I nominate you for closed-minded ignorant-ass comment of the year.
Ingada madre!!!!sos el mejor jason isbell,,,,
What would make this artist much better is if he would lay off the CNN Koolaide !!
This is one beautiful song
Addicted. Coming off the shit. This song plays and I had to pull over and cry. Emotions flooded my soul.
You're not alone
Been feeling the same..

Where the hell has this guy been hiding?

Brilliant!
Really beautiful, amazing voice!
He beat his demons and found an angel..what a couple...good job jason....
Excellent music and great lyrics, such a rare thing in music anymore.
Damn, Jason! You get my heart thumping! Your lyrics really move me.
Beautiful.
Does anyone know what brand of capo Jason is using in this video?
Questa è musica vera, con la M maiuscola
Can't believe I had to hear Bradley Cooper's rendition of "It Takes Time" to get to know the author @JasonIsbell - Glad I did, in any case. Lots of soul and heart into this man.
Best Isbell video recorded set since ACL. Thank you WGBH, my sincere appreciation for posting this.

Tears running down my face
Discovered Jason Isbell after "A Star is Born", have since been learning from him in any way I can. This song is one of my favorites.
wow, i can't believe that song got him new fans. I think I heard livebbefore the movie came out, and that's not one of his best pieces of songwriting. Not even close :-)
Beautiful song!!!! I can hear a touch of John Prine in this. Jason is amazing.
the lyric pattern brings to mind John Prine's "hello in there".

This song says it all.
So young and already a political idiot. Pity.
This is really great! Reminds me of a certain day. A lot of us travel alone, but then there are great memories of days when someone road with you.
This is the music and art yall need too be playing

Songwriters: Jason Isbell
I try to do your songs but I dont know it they do you justice..but I do try.
Absolutely gorgeous song on a stunningly sobering album. Isbell is truly talented in many ways, but his lyricism is beyond compare. Still I'm surprised nobody is talking about the video accompanying the song. Isbell and his wife (Amanda Shires), a talented musician herself, play their instruments and reflect solemnly in an empty house. However, it becomes apparent that they live in separate worlds, united in their longing for someone to "travel" with, but separated and unaware of each other's existence. You see this in the scene at 2:05 when Isbell fades out of the frame just as Shires fades into it; they're so close to meeting one another and falling in love, and each longs for the other without knowing who the other is.
Then the song comes to a close and suddenly Shires and Isbell find each other. They're in the same place together for the first time in the whole video, and she sits down next to him and they show affection for each other. This moment really got me. Knowing that Shires helped him overcome his struggles with addiction, knowing that he undoubtedly wrote the song for her, and knowing that they weren't just acting for a music video - their love is real and profound - all brought me to tears in the final scene.
I'm a newby... Found you tonight via John Prine on the Tube. You have rocked my world... Thank you so much...
Damn. Every time this video get's to the end...makes me cry. I miss my wife so much. We're just separated, but she might as well be a million miles away.
So good. THIS is country music not glam pop country.
I didn't think anybody could write two love songs, that weren't about heartache and loss, that I would like. Hahaha, jeez, man.
I love this song. I can definitely relate.
It makes me so happy to know that he doesn't have to travel alone anymore. He's young and was able to recognize and BEAT his addiction. It's never too late. Such a song of grace.
I've been listening to this song a ton recently - love it!
If I was blessed with 1% of Isbells Talent I would be a famous songsmith. Unfortunately I am not that lucky. Instead I can just sit in awe at a songwriter and musician at the very top of his game. Without selling out of following trends he is gaining more fans with every release. JI is the real deal. No cheap crossover country pop here, this is a genius at work, beautiful.
Video---makes me want to Cry--a Happy Cry for these two people. Fabulous musicians both of them Jason and Amanda....They should consider themselves Lucky to have found each other.
This man gives you his soul. Authentic insights into life itself.
This song just broke my heart!
It'll do that. And make you cry.
Everybody needs somebody.
I just love Jason wonderful song writer and singer should be on the award shows why don't we see him on the award shows he should win all kinds of awards Grammys whatever they got love you
Thank you. For pursuing music and offering such stunning magic to this difficult world.
My brother is a huge fan, and he took me to the recent show in Clearwater, FL. I heard "Traveling Alone" for the first time there, and cried my way through it. We lost our oldest son 3 years ago, and our youngest son is a long distance OTR driver. The song makes me think of both of them. It is so raw, and beautiful, and heartfelt.
I saw him on that tour in Orlando. Peace and strength to you!
This song is making me feel emotions wtf
This man writes lyrics with his guts !
Great song. For you writers and theory people, there's something weird between the bridge and what his hands are doing on the guitar. I hear the bridge chords as flat 6 major, flat seven major, tonic. But, in this video it looks like he's playing flat 2 major, flat three major, to the four chord (C shape). Seems like the chords on the record don't match what he's playing in the video. Weird. Maybe he was back and forth between doing the bridge as b2, b3, 4 versus b6, b7, tonic, and forget what he landed on when shooting the video. Anyway, great song.
When u listen to country radio and then hear some Jason isbell u just want to take a shit on fm radio stations
Ybor city on a Saturday night . Have to know Tampa Florida to get that line .
