Jarreau, Al - Step By Step Lyrics

Step by step I'll follow you
Everywhere you roam, whoa
Step by step I'll follow through
Comin' to bring you home, whoa

I keep reachin' out for you
Wondering if I'm touchin' you
You say "Yeah"
But when it's on the line
you are nearly mine
Then you're off and gone
again, ooh

[Chorus:]
Lady be kind,
lady be mine
Lady divine,
I adore you
Give me a sign,
where is it goin' to
Will of the wisp,
maid of the mist
Forever and ever
waitin' for you
My name on a list
I never did this till you

Step by step I'm keepin' time
Lady it's runnin' low, whoa
Step by step just makin' time
And I want to make it grow,
whoa

There's a diamond in the sun
There's somebody for everyone
There's a movie that you know
that makes you smile
Love ain't everything
But girl we should try it
for a while

[Chorus]

My father told me it's okay
to be lonely
Just don't be taken for the fool
I sit here waitin' anticipatin'
I think I broke my daddy's rule

Let go and let it be 'cause
I can't bear to see
us lose the best we ever had

[Chorus]

why has Jay Graydon  never been given the recognition he rightly deserves ??, he is not only a great producer but a very gifted guitarist. he has played brilliant solos on so many records his most famous one "peg"by steely dan, Al jarreau"s beutiful voice along with Gino Vanelli  will remain timeless.

i love the part it says ''♫ my father told me it's okay to be lonely, just don't be taken for the fool,i sit here waitin' anticipatin',i think i broke my daddy's rule...♫ ♪'' too many horns, beautiful!!!!

    A.... H....

There can never be "too many horns". It's like claiming you can get "too funky on a bass"!

    A.... H....

Never too many horns....  Simply amazing!!!

    A.... H....

Alejandro Herrera that is my favourite part also.

    A.... H....

Trumpeter Jerry Hey and his very tight brass section just kills it on these tracks.

    A.... H....

    Yaaaass! That's my part too.

  55. r.... e....

Wow, what can I say!.  All of these comments are on the money.  I am happy to say that as a millennial, I knew this man and his stylish, savvy, and classic take on music for the duration of my life.  He is truly a gift.  May he continue to live long and prosperous.

  56. t.... ....

This is as good as it ever gets! I was lucky enough to be alive when some of the most awesome, gorgeous, impeccably crafted and performed music was still part of "Mainstream pop" (even though it's corrover jazz, funk, fusion and R&B) and sold albums! It's also incredible how uplifting and timeless this is. No one tried to badass, cool or artsy. These guys, all top notch and well known, just played like there is no tomorrow - all of them. Perfect production by Jay Craydon. And who on Earth doesn't love Al Jearreau!

Jeff Porcaro´s drum in this song, is out of the world. In the album you can hear Steve Porcaro in keyboards, Abraham Laboriel playing bass, Steve Gadd on drums too. And Graydon also plays guitarr on this album! It is amazing.

  69. b.... c....

    b.... c....

    b.... c....

    b.... c....

    @belhomme christ je suis à 100 % d'accord, content d'échanger avec quelqu'un qui connait bien Jarreau.

    b.... c....

Quel groove !
