Janet Jackson - The Knowledge Lyrics

Insight to what's going on
Information keeps us strong
What you don't know can hurt you bad
Take it from me you'll be walkin around sad
Cryin for a better day
Until you educate for a better way
So if you wanna be in control
Ya gotta get yourself in the know

Get the knowledge
That you really want
The knowledge
Do you really want
It's the knowledge
What you really want
The knowledge
That you really want

Spreading vise don't believe the hype
You don't find the knowledge in a pipe
Too many lives go up in smoke
It's nice to laugh but don't be the joke
To get over get better
Try to be the possessor
Of the one thing we all need in life
To succeed take my advice

Get the knowledge
That you really want
The knowledge
Do you really want
It's the knowledge
What you really want
The knowledge
That you really want

Prejudice No!
Ignorance No!
Bigotry No!
Illiteracy No!

Listen it's up to everyone
If we're gonna change the way the world is run
The way to start is to rid the children of
Prejudice & ignorance
We've gotta teach our kids to read and write
That's the only way to win this fight for life
Education is the goal so
If you wanna be in the know
Get the knowledge
It's the one thing we all need in life

At 1:58 the dancer in the white and black shirt, Bobby brown has that same shirt in the On Our On video AND Mj said in his private home video that Janet ask him could she steal the military dance moves on Rhythm Nation video and Mj said I can just choke you ( playfully) because me was going to use it himself and then he went on to say, since you're my sister and I love you go on and use it!!❤❤ big ups to Mj

    NOW more than ever.

  21. N.... R....

1:21, imposible no recordar el intro de muchachitas

  22. J.... W....

The Knowledge is one of my favorite videos of Janet's, her choreography in this video was very crisp, street pop locking, and very intricate dancing period!!! She is the female counterpart of her brother MJ when it comes to Dancing!

  23. C.... B....

CHILLS!!!!! Janet is such a powerful phenomenal true artist. This epitomizes why I will always love her. #RealArt 🙌

  24. k.... ....

None of these hookers wanted a day of Janet and how hard she hits that choreo... and the hair was OVAH !

  25. M.... G....

I don't know why she didn't release this track it is the best track and video of all her videos

  26. m.... ....

Jam and Lewis got busy on that track.

  27. 1.... K....

Good song with a positively serious meaning!!!! 👍👍A wake up call to the conscious community.

  28. M.... B....

    ❤❤❤

  29. H.... W....

    That Hair is Everyting.

  30. R.... A....

Some scenes here remind me of "The Pleasure Principle"

  31. C.... ....

13 people don't have the knowledge.

  32. L.... K....

    I love this song.

  33. G.... T....

I used to hold the Grammys in high regard when I was 10 until I hit 30. Then I came to realize that they have an issue in awarding a person of color especially a woman. Rhythm nation 1814 and Janet. And especially the Velvet Rope were not recognize for album of the year. I believe the Bodyguard soundtrack won was the Dark influence Mr. Davis has on the industry and unfortunately Whitney paid dearly for it. This album has never been achieved and to incorporate the message of social consciousness through dance and that sweet voice of hers should be heralded as a landmark that til this day resonates.

  34. m.... ....

One of my fave videos by Janet

  35. R.... M....

Janet is the truth, beautiful, can dance and is so raw I dont think she even knows how raw she is...hands down an icon in every since of the word

  36. M.... D....

    beauttiful perfornance!!!!

  37. J.... A....

Album came in September 19th 1989

  38. J.... R....

    Like brother like sister ❤

  39. T.... '....

We sat by our 26 inch tv (vcr connected). And screamed when we saw this! Howling!! So sickening! She shitted for this!!!! Thank u Janet!

  40. T.... '....

This one of the BEST THINGS SHE HAS EVER DONE! I get bubbles in my stomach every time I see it!!!! SEVERE!

  41. S.... S....

I'm sayin', does anyone else see Gotham City in the opening? I kept expecting Batman to appear creeping down behind a gargoyle on top of that building?

  42. A.... Q....

What if she decides to recreate this? Maybe this time, it will be a little bit longer and it can include many more people dancing with her. Any other suggestions?

  43. J.... B....

    "..'Prejudice'?NO!!..'Ignorance'?NO!!..'Bigotry'?NO!!..'Iliteracy'?NO!!..Count!'1,2,3,4'..(Dance)."🙏🕯🎵☝️

  44. M.... R....

Janet the legend and rightfully so. This song is so relevant in today's climate.

  45. i.... ....

Janet Jackson gives me life. THIS song and routine is the best. I did all the choreography in the clubs as a teenager. Now im going recap to loose my stomach :P #JanetJacksonBinge

  46. B.... C....

Why were most of the videos for the Rhythm Nation CD done in old fashioned black and white film?? It looks like an old movie before color tv came!

  47. K.... D....

    the beats❤

  48. R.... R....

    2018!!still love RN1814

  49. J.... P....

This is me exactly this song and the beta fits my moods

  50. A.... W....

    JANET IS ICONIC!

  51. k.... ....

Wow, I remember Rhythm Nation and Miss You Much but not this one. Janet Jackson in 1989–was amazing. Also, her and Michael together are responsible for half of the positive lyrics in all of music! They’re work is certainly a breath of fresh air compared to the narcissism and self absorption of other musicians. The world is better because of the Jackson family.

  52. B.... M....

💁🔥 350% Queen JANET gives it 24 hrs a day everytime

  53. D.... ....

“Drinks, cold, are you ready? Here we go!” 😂😂😂😂😂 I love this song but always think about the Wendy’s drink rap hahaha

  54. D.... ....

    Uhhh .... so ... much .. life .

  55. I.... E....

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, this beat!! And Janet hit every beat with umph!

  56. I.... E....

OMG this is the best raw dancing video of All-time by a female, this is crazy!

  57. B.... C....

This video was controversial back in the day too and it is still relevant in 2018! I loved it!

    B.... C....

    Thks 4 liking this.

  58. P.... M....

    Real booty unlike kadarshian

  59. T.... D....

Admit it Michael. You got the Panther Scene from Black or White from your sister didn’t you? Good job lol

  60. r.... ....

This album is RIDICULOUS !!!! And by saying this I mean, OFF THE CHARTS SPECTACULAR. DAMN GREAT ALBUM FROM BEGINNING TO END.

  61. M.... S....

The sad thing to me I remember in an interview Janet said “ I hope I’m not the only artist to make a socially conscious album hopefully there’s more in the future “ correct me if I’m wrong but I think she’s the only one😢😭🤦🏾‍♀️😶👀

    M.... S....

Michael her brother wrote several socially conscious songs.

    M.... S....

TLC had many songs with different topics! Women's rights, drugs, unprotected sex, depression, black people's rights, etc...

  62. D.... R....

I think it was the same building whare Rhythm Nation video was done. Excellent video too

  63. T.... D....

    EPIC !! Just Epic !!

  64. M.... ....

2:35 She reminded me of her brother, they are truly sibling goals

  65. C.... B....

I didn’t expect anything less from Miss Jackson

  66. C.... B....

    That was EPIC.

  67. S.... ....

Is there a VHS of the short film?

  68. L.... F....

And Janet can STILL dance her ass off🙌🏽🙌🏽

  69. D.... C....

I remember when I was 13 watching this video..now 41....still can’t get enough of this song and how ground breaking this project was.

  70. R.... A....

    Super Duper Bad

  71. W.... J....

Michael said this is his favorite song

    W.... J....

    Yes he did.

    W.... J....

    @BLaZeRKen I noticed that, too.

    W.... J....

    Mine too

    W.... J....

He said Rhythm Nation and The Knowledge was his favorite songs, and he practice dancing to them.

    W.... J....

he used to dance with this...

  72. M.... S....

why wasn't this released to the Design of a Decade DVD? Only on VHS... ?.. Hmmm

  73. S.... P....

1:57 The *TIGHTESS* dance scene ever, short but enough to amaze anyone.

  74. N.... B....

    The KNOWLEDGE BITCHES YAS

    N.... B....

    Wow 💕💕💕💕

  75. J.... M....

    There is nothing more inspirational.

  76. T.... L....

The before scene at the intro still makes me cry til this day. it's so deep. she was so upset.

  77. b.... c....

Smh that hair! That choreography! That dramatic sprinting! That drop at the end! then the message =EPIC

    b.... c....

Your description of that video is EPIC...I was thinking everything you said! Well done!

  78. t.... M....

    #janfam #SOTW #janetjackson #janfam #love #SOTW

  79. W.... O....

I want that hair must have in blue black 😍😍😍😍

  80. A.... W....

Love, love, love this. The beat is fiayh!! The choreography is fiyah!! And my baby is looking as sexy as ever in this video!!

  81. T.... O....

    *..YES QUEEN STAGE MOTHER!*

  82. K.... A....

When she started dancing with her girls, it reminded me of the Fly Girls on In Living Color

    K.... A....

this was before IN living color

    K.... A....

I know that. They look like the fly girls & that’s why they remind me of them.

    K.... A....

The whole In Living Color set is very similar to this, and the move with how she busts through the door? They may have been inspired by RN.

  83. A.... E....

This never gets old ... makes me like the song more when she open the show with the song.. great messages

  84. S.... ....

BLACK JANET IS SO BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. N.... S....

    Classic Janet.

  86. T.... M....

    master piece #JanetJackson

  87. N.... B....

It kinda looks like they Shot "Miss You Much" and this the same day or something. #noshade
Because a lot of people think everyone is after Mama Janet.

    N.... B....

Actually, its all part of the RN Video Proyect. Is what today is known as a visual album. All of the videos of RN (maybe except Alrigth, Come BAck to me and Escapade) where part of the RN Video Pryect. All shot in black and white and part of a "story". It won the Grammy that year for Best Long Form Music Video

  88. I.... s....

Omg this a video I'm a fan I had no idea lol omg thank you for this I'm a dancer and Janet,Michael,Beyoncé,James brown and Tina turner and Elvis inspire me to continue doing me.Janet number number 1.

  89. B.... S....

Moog bass or what? That bass!

  90. n.... ....

This is clearly a special video. So where are all the views? Tell your family, your friends, tell everyone.

  91. E.... B....

No one, and I do mean NO ONE can touch The Blueprint Janet

    E.... B....

No one can touch who she's inspired and touched.

    E.... B....

Janet is phenomenal, but don’t forget, Paula Abdul and Michael Jackson were her teachers. They molded her, honed her, and intricately crafted her to be this. Even Janet will tell you that

    E.... B....

PHOENIX MINISTRY Paula was a hired choreographer who worked with her on 3 videos. She was dancing well before Paula. Her choreography is not even Janet’s best work.

    E.... B....

    SUPER FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!

    E.... B....

PHOENIX MINISTRY I bet Janet learned a lot from having Michael Jackson as a big brother. Growing up in the same house and sharing the same stage with him. Actually all her brother and sisters. But Paula I thinks not. Janet gave Paula her shot by taking a chance on her and giving her the chance to choreograph a few music videos. Which, like someone said, isn’t even Janet’s beat choreographed work. People are always trying to take her talent and success from her by giving the credit to other people. Janet put those long hours in at the music studio and dance studio perfecting her craft. No one was able to do that for her. And the results of HER HARD WORK PAID OFF!!!!

  92. L.... ....

This is EVERYTHING a music video should be..this whole entire short film.

  93. D.... B....

To say that I get my ENTIRE life when watching this would be an understatement. She is everything to me! Yaass Mutha Janet!!!

    D.... B....

David Burney same here! Love it😃

    D.... B....

    Same here, SAME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  94. d.... ....

I remember watching the making of this film and the dedication everyone had with bringing Jan's vision to light. Still very impressive 30yrs later. Love always Janet.

  95. M.... S....

That beat from 2:41 to 2:48 tho

    M.... S....

Michael Stein this best is FUCKAN insane

  96. B.... R....

I didnt realize until now, her falling at the end, is her being shot.....I never got that until now!

    B.... R....

I never block nobody and Janet currently is underrated cause of the Super Bowl but she is very respected before that and after that nobody couldn't wait for Janet to drop a video she is above Madonna in artistry and influence yes she is but her impact was definitely on Michael and Madonna well me surpass her in damn impact you can't even erase janet history making if you had the chance I'm 22 and knows everything about this woman life and Janet is known globally she is a global artist where in multiple countries Madonna not even acknowledge but I'm trying to say she is underrated which is ridiculous but her impact alone is untouchable.

    B.... R....

I agree...and I didnt say you blocked me. I said it in a general way, because I dont know who blocked me.

    B.... R....

    Brown Royal
Hmmm I've seen this many times and I'm just realizing it. Thanks for the insight.

    B.... R....

Brown Royal Janet Janet was in the middle of pop culture since 1986’s Control album. She was just as big if not bigger than Madonna. Now no one was bigger than Michael. Janet was definitely respected and very much apart of pop culture to this day

  97. R.... D....

"In complete darkness we are all the same! It is our knowledge and wisdom that separate us. Don't let your eyes deiceve you"

Janet was on point when this came out! Who have thought we would be in the same situation, even worse! With recent election results, shooting and all other race related crap. We are a nation that is ready burst. Rhythm Nation 1814 is now!

    Thank You Janet!

    R.... D....

I came back here is well because of the elections, Janet is really something.

    R.... D....

You just said everything ! The legacy from this album is something so incredible. Janet is one of the greatest artist of all time

    R.... D....

Amen you read my mind and her message is needed even more today which is a state of the world today unfortunately.

    R.... D....

ric diaz you are almost right here.  It is not "knowledge and wisdom that separates us."  It is our acceptance of the "election results, shooting and all other race related crap" that separates us.  black people are separated from the things that they have in common.  how sad.  ric diaz here is why you are so very right (message from god):  LOST FROM THE LIGHT YOU NEED, YOU ARE ALL SO ANXIOUSLY AND EXPECTANTLY ENCIRCLING GOD IN ORDER THAT GOD MAY OPEN THE DOOR AND GIVE YOU THE LIGHT THAT YOU SO DESPERATERLY NEED.  YOU NEED TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH.  THE FEELINGS YOU HOLD AGAINST GOD ARE ALRIGHT FOR NOW.  UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE BEEN KNOCKING ON THE DOOR OF GOD.  WHEN THE DOOR OPENED YOU WERE SCHOCKED TO FIND THAT IT WAS GOD'S BEDROOM DOOR.  NOW, DOESN'T THAT MAKE YOU FEEL QUEER?  EVEN QUEERER THAN GOD?  GOD SAYS TO YOU NOW DIRECTLY:  "I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE AT SOME TIME SAID TO  YOURSELVES  IF THERE IS A GOD WHO HAS ANY POWER, THEN WHY IS IT THE WAY IT IS ON EARTH?"  YOUR LACK OF LOVE FOR YOURSELF AND OTHER HUMAN BEINGS IS THE REASON WHY THINGS ARE AS THEY ARE ON THE EARTH.  YOU MUST ACCEPT AND UNDERSTAND THAT FROM THE BEGINNING OF YOUR ACCIDENTAL BIRTH WITHIN ME, AND THROUGH YOUR ETERNAL EXISTENCE WITHIN ME, I AM AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOD THAT LOVES YOU COMPLETELY.  I GIVE YOU THIS LOVE FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF YOU SHARING IT WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS.  YOU YOURSELF MUST FIND THE WILLWITHIN YOURSELF TO DO THIS."  SELAH!

  98. D.... ....

    DOWN WITH TRUMP

  99. T.... W....

This reminds me of Beyonce's 'Hold Up' for some reason.
