Janet Jackson - New Agenda Lyrics
[Chuck D's Intro:]
It ain't nothin but an us thang
And it's time for us to step it up and respect
That level of sisterhood
That's been holding up our neighborhood
There would be no brothers
And if it wasn't for our sisters
There would be no misters
So it ain't nothin but a us thang
She's strong and that's a fact
Now it's time for us to take up the slack
Step it up, step it up, time to go to work
History hidden from me
To hide my identity
I am somebody
You've gouged my eyes
I see more clearly
You've tried to rob
My humanity
My spirit you tried to break
My soul you tried to take
There's no need to be afraid
Cause I won't do unto you now
[CHORUS:]
Amen
All that we've been through
Our time has come to rejoice
A new agenda's due
Amen
It's time to know the truth
Our time has come to rejoice
A new agenda's due
(no no)
Because of my gender
(no)
I've heard no too many times
Because of my race
I've heard no too many times
But with every no
I grow in strenght
That is why
African-American woman
I stand tall with pride
You want to know what it takes
To rid yourself of me now
There's nothing you can do
Accept me for who I am now
[CHORUS]
Chuck D's Rap:
Time to step it up, step it up
Better check yourself
I get vexed to protect what we got
Left her alone
Lookin for your own
Here it is I know what I'm sayin
But the klan ain't playin at the range
Gotta step it up us to discuss a must
It ain't nothin but an us thang
Rewind back to the time
Where the color of our mother
Had 'em call it a crime
Brother what in the world?
And the world says where is the black man
Support the woman and children
Time to step it up, step it up, it's playoff time
And the rhyme go to check, so check yourself
Amen
A new agenda's due
[CHORUS (2x)]

Great song!
😍😍😍😍✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾💜💜💜💜💜💜
Underrated! This whole album is a classic
You and Michael both have such beautiful voices. You have vibrato and lyricism, and Michael had voice cracks and trademarks.
This is my favourite song on this album. I love this song- the words in it is so powerful and so true- I wish this song got airplayed like the others- its a powerful message that Janet is sending out there- I don't know why she doesn't perform this song at her concerts. I love Janet so much! This Janet album has gotten me through a lot of tough times back then! I'm forever grateful -
"Accept me for who I am now"- ouch! that line touches me
She said African American woman I stand proud🖤👍Her brother(Michael) use to say how proud he was
to be black as well🖤👍
I love being black👍🖤
i still have da cd

Her most complete album ,and this is among her most underrated tracks
Should have released this Jan. It would have been a Smash! Not sure Virgin would agree too conscious for them methinks. The 90s were vintage for Black music, so glad I witnessed it First Hand ✊✊✊
I'm a white woman and I will never experience what a black woman has to go through in her life. I can have solidarity but I will never understand. But Janet, you've provided me the tiniest crack through the door with this song through which I can look for 4 minutes.
This song invented black lives matter
This song is so relevant in 2019 especially after the new movement of #me too. But it resonates more intensely when you are a double minority. I be damn if anyone disrespects my sister or mother or any sista period. Amen Ms. Janet.
This song should have been performed now and this album is so freaking good it should have been nominated for album of the year. How many classics?6 top 10 Hits. C'mon
I Wish This Song Was Nightcore!

I play this song over and over 😍
Me too!! Love it.
According to the Janet Jackson "Egos and Icons" special, this song was inspired by Maya Angelou.
I can't highlight a line, every lyric is spot on and FIRE!!!! #blackgirlmagic ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Yesssssssss!!!!!!!
Chuck D in the place to be!
My favorite human. Janet Damita Jo Jackson will forever reign over these little girls today. She is truth. She’s so fucking strong and she’s actually so nice omg. She has NEVER said anything mean. She’s the nicest person in the industry and I’m upset she got involved with the meanest person (Justin Timberlake) but whatever Oof. People will try to kick her down and tarnish her career and character but she has bounced back and she’s blocked the haters!
This song is so underrated it actually has a message instead of people worrying about how a guy has hurt a girl by finding another woman it talks about how women has been through a lot and how women are unappreciated especially African American women. I love you so much Janet Damita jo Jackson I can’t express it enough every day I say to myself one day when I grow up I will be such a successful woman like you. I love you so much 😍😍😍😘😊
Love this song of Janet Jackson this cd is always get myself going if I’m bored
Happy birthday, Auntie Jan. I don't need for it to be yo' birthday in order to give you flowers. I listen to you all the time like I've been doing since _janet._ Well, technically, my first official introduction to you is _Come Back to Me._ No matter what I say, I love you, period.
