Jan & Dean - The Little Old Lady From Pasadena Lyrics

It's the little old lady from Pasadena

The little old lady from Pasadena
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)
Has a pretty little flowerbed of white gardenias
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)
But parked in a rickety old garage
Is a brand new, shiny red, super-stock Dodge

And everybody's sayin' that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena

If you see her on the street, don't try to choose her
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)
You might drive a goer but you'll never lose her
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)
Well, she's gonna get a ticket now sooner or later
'Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator

And everybody's sayin' that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena

(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)
The guys come to race her from miles around
But she'll give 'em a length, then she'll shut 'em down

And everybody's sayin' that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena

(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go)...

  1. a.... D....

    Beach boys 2

  2. D.... F....

What a relief this song is from the usual pop pap about broken hearts or love forever and ever

  3. M.... L....

When I was about 10 and might have heard this once or twice, I woke up in the middle of the night with the song and its modal shifts running through my head, particularly the outro, with its unexpected key change and the fading echoey harmonica. One of my first ear worms....kept cycling till dawn. Incredible how Jan and Dean captured the spirit and sound of the early Beach Boys.

  4. M.... S....

Reminds me of when my Grandma used to drive herself when she was pretty much blind!

  5. R.... T....

    great music, enjoy

  13. J.... K....

No one meaner than the little old lady from Pasadena. Give 'em a length then shut 'em down Colorado boulevard. Can't understand so puts the pedal to the metal. Terror of Colorado Boulevard.

  14. J.... K....

Colorado boulevard. Can't understand so puts the pedal to the metal
in Old Town Pasadena. Gonna break you dead, clearly break you dead.
From Orange Grove clear out to Rosemead. Out in the lady's old garage
it's a shiny new superstocked Dodge. '68 hemis and all that. Four on the floor.
Sure I drive it. Didn't want to but this is what she says.
Lady's a Democrat and doesn't want any republicans in Pasadena.

Most of her friends who I knew are dead now so I drive her around.
Pile of shit of all eternity is where she lives up near Flintridge.
210 freeway up near there. We've been a family around there for a long time.
We're Democrats in Pasadena up near Flintridge.

She even drag raced out on the back street backs roads back in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, -- She still as not slowed down since 2019. She 82 next year in 2020. 58. M.... R....

  59. A.... S....

A 64 Mercury Comet Caliente with a 302 Boss would have been right up her alley. 4 on the floor or 5 on the hive! Go Granny!

    A.... S....

    What's five on the hive?
Yeah the '64 Comet Caliente or the Falcon Sprint were great, the Mustang was just the same car as the '64 Falcon and Comet with a different body

  79. L.... T....

I only know this song because of the refference Judge Judy made in one of her episodes XD

  80. D.... M....

One of the best rhymes in pop: "She's gonna get a ticket now sooner or later, cuz she can't keep her foot off the accellerator".

    D.... M....

I hear this at work sometimes and those particular lyrics make me snicker every time. :)

    D.... M....

A true work of art! Takes a real command of English to come up with a rhyme as naff as that! Bob Dylan took an entire verse of "Tambourine Man" to Rhyme "Sorrow" with "Tomorrow". -This is really succinct by comparison.

    D.... M....

Yes! Yes! An indelible line nails the character.

  81. R.... ....

"go grannie go grannie go go go!" :D

  82. A.... P....

I agree that Mopar had some very fast cars in the 60's. But it seems to me that they were a latecomer when it came to style for muscle cars. Until they came out with the Road Runner and the Super Bee, I pretty much have to say that Mopars were fast, but not very good looking. Ford had the mustang in 64 and GM had the GTO in 64. Both good looking cars that LOOKED like muscle cars. Not like MOPAR (pre-68) with typical looking American family sedans that happened to be very fast because they're packing a 426 hemi. This song says it exactly, "a brand new shiny red Super Stock Dodge." The Little Old Lady's car was just a typical American family sedan that had the MOPAR power package. Muscle car performance sure, but no muscle car looks.

  83. g.... j....

"no more surfer shit!" American Grafetti 1973

  84. c.... ....

  85. T.... D....

JAN AND DEAN R A ONE OF KIND SUCCESS. I GIVE THEM KUDOS. LONG LIVE Wm.JAN Berry.

  86. f.... ....

I once had an aunt in Pasadena who owned a Polara 440, Most of the time she didn't care , but every once in awhile some body would do something stupid in front of her and the she would stomp it pull out and then and scream to a stop sideways in front of the offending driver - get out and read the driver the riot act.

Believe it or not, she was 104 years old , she drove like a champ and didn't cut assholes any slack.

    f.... ....

My Mom in her 1966 Catalina!!!She drag raced people in her 80s!!

  87. G.... W....

    Classic surf sound

  88. d.... s....

Music today can't have cool car songs....the pc police will piss and moan about "glorifying illegal street racing". Besides...who wants to hear a song about a fuckin' Prius?

  89. B.... G....

My gran'ma Mildred drove a '66 Dodge Polara(?) With a 383 4 bbl. Drove like a F1 racer, but she never scared me. She was born 80 years too soon. She would've made a helluva F-15 driver!

    B.... G....

You realize a woman old enough to be a grandma in 1964 would probably--not certainly, but probably--have been born in the 19th century. Before cars, before airplanes, before radio, before pop records... Amazing.

  90. A.... K....

    Go granny go!

  91. C.... P....

Breaks my heart to listen to this song, and then look at how ruined CA is now..😢

    C.... P....

    mexicans EVERYWHERE!

    C.... P....

@gary jonson Pretty sure he's not focused on race, but if that's what's "ruining" our state for you, consider moving to the KKK states.

    C.... P....

Well in a way it’s true. Latinos leave their countries because of the policies of their government then vote the same way and turn other states into shit holes

    C.... P....

@gary jonson it's not Mexicans. It's the poor policies and the high taxes that have ruined the state. Low income in SF is $100k a year. That's awful

  92. W.... L....

WILLIAM JAN BERRY WILL ALWAYS B REMEMBERED. HE MAYBE NO BRIAN WILSON , BUT HE MADE HISTORY 2 IN HIS OWN RIGHT.....
