James, Tommy - Ball And Chain Lyrics
I went down to the valley, just to find out who I am, Lord.
Down home in the valley, I've got to get myself back together again, now.
I looked all around me, but everything was still the same.
People, you can't climb that mountain carrying a ball and chain, no.
Because it takes all the love that your give to get to the other side.
Come, come, comin' together, that's the only way we can go.
Children, you better turn around, take a look where you been before, now.
Come, come come on people, don't you know that we're all the same;
You know we ain't gonna climb that mountain carrying a ball and chain.
Because it takes all the love that your give to get to the other side.
It makes all the life that you can live so satisfied, yeah, so satisfied.

Love this My favorite Tommy James and the Shondells song
Found this song after 4 decades of not hearing it. Who can account for it? A great song by any standard, but it's the wild guitar solo that's mostly responsible for it being lodged in my head. I'm sure it's such a great pleasure and surprise for artists like Tommy to know that millions remember the music still. Thanks! And it's still true: we ain't gonna climb that mountain carrying a ball and chain.
I liked Adrienne just a bit more.... but this is a good one!
Has to be one of the WORST *&^%ing songs ever made! What the @#*^ were they thinking?!
I had the 45 when it came out and they played it to death that summer. I don't know why it's not on my "Best Of " album. So many lesser songs that weren't hits are on there. They could have included this gem.
Thanks for sharing !! He lives not too far from me - He is a GREAT artist ! He paints! and he painted a portrait of my neighbor at the Bar she once owned.
In 7th grade homeroom I heard Crimson and Clover and I have been hooked since. This is an awesome song. Thanks for posting.
I agree with you there..No the stations just play his 3 biggest hits, Hanky Panky, I Think We're Alone Now, Crystal Blue Persuasion..I would love to hear "Come To Me" "She" or "Gotta Get Back to You"
I saw Tommy James in May 1980 at the Carowinds Amusement Park Paladium. At one time, I had this hit on an LP entitled 20 Explosive Hits from K-Tel.
Bits and Pieces.
This is probably his best song, pure feel-good rock n' roll, and you never hear it anywhere. I'd love to hear this one on the radio instead of Mony Mony or Hanky Panky for a change!
Tommy James is well worth listening to, this is a great song been a favorite for years. How much love you think he did to write his songs?
Unheralded classic. Now I know the answer to the question, which was the better side A or B lol

Always loved this song, thanks so much for posting.
