James Gang - Tend My Garden Lyrics

Would you like to come home with me?
I can think of things to show ya
Thinkin' that I'd like to know ya, uh
Mornin' milkman's comin'
Get up, greet my day
Evenin' brings the sun in
Still I find my way

Change of plans, makin' a landin' to see ya
And I do wanna be your man, oh, yeah
Sunday, highway drivin'
It all looks about the same
Nowhere, just arrivin'
Still I play the game

I'm home grown, growin' my own and I need ya
Need ya to beg my pardon, to tend my garden
Flowers, she's sittin' for poses
She wants me to sing my song
Hours, she's like a stoned Moses
Guess I'll sing along

  2. C.... D....

Just want to say how underrated the Jame's gang we're.

  3. V.... M....

So many old memories for us all....think of all the dead friends u used to party with back then....sobering. Life is like a roll of T.P., goes faster at the end.

  4. T.... P....

    Who's still listening in 1970?

  5. P.... M....

    Fantastic

  6. M.... B....

One of those albums that sounds like it was written by a much older and world weary artist.

  7. J.... R....

"More than a feelin' ... even on Sundays, more than a feelin'!"

  8. E.... C....

Sounds like Boston ripped off parts of this song (especially if you listen to Boston's Third Stage LP or the song Someone from one of their last albums).

  9. H.... C....

So superior to the Walsh solo stuff

  10. T.... P....

    JUST GOOD MUSIC:). Yup!!!

  11. c.... m....

Seen them 4 times at Syracuse War Memorial. In late 60’s and early 70’s. Excellent Performers.

  12. f.... ....

    helluva drummer too

  13. T.... N....

Tom Sholtz must of really liked this tune, had to have been major inspiration for more than a feeling

  14. H.... T....

Love this album, and have loved it for 49 years

  15. K.... S....

Joe Walsh what a great guitarist .great live1975 vets, memorial Columbus Ohio tickes5.50 mindblower in basement rember smoke filed room

  16. J.... H....

Joe Walsh contributed much, but the other two made it gel.

  17. S.... S....

The best thing about this song is the way Joe sings "I'd" in the line "Thinking that I'd like to get to know you".

  18. B.... F....

A comment on Rick Beato's Channel led me here. A precursor to More Than a Feeling, right down to the pick slide!

  19. R.... I....

Big influence on Tom Scholz and his band Boston

  20. F.... F....

    JW at his best

  21. L.... W....

It’s 1988,17 years old,I convince my mom to co sign a loan to get my first car! A 1970 Plymouth Road Runner 383HP 727 Torqelight on column..it had an aftermarket cassette stereo with a couple of sparkomatics in the back!.i used to chauffeur my brother around sometimes in it and he always had some good smokes and James Gang Rides Again on cassette!! Cruising around in my Plymouth listening to James Gang Rides Again with my brother, and some good smoke! Those were some memories I will cherish till my dyin day..RIP Chance Hurley my brother...

    L.... H....

Just sold my 70 Roadrunner, had it 40 years.

  26. S.... T....

"Thinkin' that I'd like to get to know ya..." Stevie Nicks said he was the great love of her life and with lines like that, no wonder.

  27. J.... G....

Well I'm sitting in the middle of a story
Would you like to read my line
    Sipping on a morning glory
Would you like to taste my wine
Don't forget to tell the sun
    I sleep through the day
See him when the morning comes
    Everything's OK
    The captain's in the chartroom
    Navigating on a star
    Can't know where we're going
'Cause he don't know where we are
    Don't you think I don't know
    How to tell the time
Can't you see you can't sell me
    Something that is mine
    You just sit to talking
And I'm sure there's nothing said
    Your book is lying open
And I don't think much is read
    The dog is outside barking
    At something he can't see
    The garden gate is closing

  28. j.... ....

No better Performer in ALL of Music ...... Than Joe Walsh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. J.... R....

Our world lost... I won't blame who's responsible for this or of course they shut down your internet.
Its okay we all here understand

  34. j.... b....

Joe and band massively underrated. Short lived but
such great music. Will play on forever and has survived the test of time.

  35. W.... ....

Real music in a desert like selfi-land!

  36. C.... A....

Not just then - I hope

  37. F.... L....

such excellent work, really glad to hear this

  38. C.... C....

wish the james gang had never split

    R.... F....

Yes I am 66 now my self, and look at the mess now
And they said that we are the lost generation!!! !!!!! So what is this all

    R.... F....

  42. M.... t....

you can't describe this... you have to be there... keep Rockin Joe

  43. p.... d....

Yeah I remember how great it was to grow up during this time. Music just isn’t the same as it used to be but I always get back to listen to ones like this.

  44. J.... S....

.....But Jim Fox.....Is even a better Drummer in The James Gang !!!! Right Out Of Cleveland Ohio

  45. T.... A....

    Greatest outro of all time

  46. r.... ....

    The piano is amazing!

  47. B.... I....

It never gets old, maybe in those times, I just listened to the music, not the times, not like today, just listen to the music, not the times and get sad 'cause I miss those days, we had little, but we had a lot, a lot more than today, soon, those that survive will be books like Fahrenheit 451.

  48. r.... s....

go to mc do doo's firsrst chicken nuts in first one on the biscuit in the morning

  49. C.... B....

Tom Sholtz should have thanked Joe for the hand clap-organ ripoff in More Than a Feeling.

    C.... B....

Court Beall in an interview I read with Scholz in the 80s he said he learned to play bass playing along to James Gang records 🧐

    C.... B....

Pretty sure he never hid that from anybody and one of the guys who discovered Boston was approached with Boston’s demo simply because he worked with The James Gang

  50. D.... T....

    Growin my own

  51. m.... ....

Joe was all Midwest. Right up there with Seger and GFR. Down to earth, unpretentious R and R. Too bad he went corporate.

  52. E.... S....

  68. B.... H....

My band in high school played a concert once on a Wed. 3rd period. I was the lead singer/guitarist and when we started this song and I sang, "Would you like to come home with me?" , I swear every girl in the auditorium yelled, YEAH! -My one second of fame. LOL

    B.... H....

Ex cellent!!  He yelps he scores!!

    B.... H....

    Sure, Ben. Lol

    B.... H....

After the concert, you should have grabbed the best looking chick in the audience and checked out of school. You got to go with the moment.

    B.... H....

All the girls loved Me when I went away LOL. Had a great time going away:).

  69. D.... G....

Anybody have an idea of what the song means?

  70. J.... S....

Timeless Joe .. With Joe Vitalie... More Creativity Here Than Most Bands ever Dream About...Keep on Keepin ON!!!

  71. C.... C....

@ 1:43 That's where Boston got their riff for More Than A Feeling.

  72. T.... W....

It just doesn't get much better than this. Bought the album when it was new. Bought another copy when that one wore out. Own the 8 track, cassette and CD of this . I have a few thousand albums in my collection. This one is #1. Thank you Joe, Dale and Jim.

  77. R.... Z....

Eighth grade study hall, 1971. First heard of James Gang.Bought album. Fan ever since!

  78. H.... W....

"A dog is outside barking, at something he can't see. The garden gate is closing" - Brilliant.

    H.... W....

Trouble you to elaborate? Any extra thoughts appreciated. Love these tunes, and just interested in any perspective. I'm not great at interpreting song lyrics, but super interested. Thanks.

  79. e.... m....

While listening to this I was transported to another place in time where it was sunny and warm with no helmet law and the sound from our bikes running down the road was so cool as we cruised the country backroads searching for a good spot to roll one.......

    e.... m....

The same here. Just don't produce well-conceived music today. It's about videos and making money.

    e.... m....

So nice to see you here.  Not surprised at all.  During my youth, this music went wherever I went.  In fact this was the very first concert I ever saw.  They set the bar high for all concerts I would see in the future.....and there were many.  But only a few ever reached that bar.  Every song holds the fondest of my youthful memories.  Such a great time it was::))  A time we live outdoors and outloud!!

    e.... m....

evan morrow check out my channel friend you may like what you see. Joe Walsh and tons of bikes! ✨😆🤘✨🇺🇸 The Last Rebel Show! Oh Ya!

    e.... m....

  80. M.... ....

I see my Marianne walkin' away...

    M.... ....

Yep - James Gang was just a bit before my time (I was 8 when Rides Again came out, so it was pretty much just Funk 49 and Walk Away getting airplay by the time I was 13-14) but this was certainly Tom Scholz' blueprint for the First Boston album.

  81. H.... R....

    OH-IO Joe

  82. D.... B....

Rain passes.  Clouds cover blue sky.  Sun shines.  Damp ground.  Damp wooden porch.  Coffee. Chill in air but wood is warm.  Smell fresh trees, fresh air.  Coffee.  Sunlight on body.   Cat or dog bounces around.  Quiet.  Hugs.  Licks.   Hear the Accoustic guitar in the back ground....YOU ARE IN HEAVEN.   THIS IS THE SOUND TRACK FOR IT.

  83. E.... S....

Ya'll can have slash, angus & Malcom, Eddy van and the rest! Just give me large doses of JOE WALSH, David Gilmore and Mark knoffler

    E.... S....

Mornin', Milk Man's comin'....to get some weed from my garden!

  91. R.... O....

Thank you, saw them 1970 Blacksburg VA. Opened for Grand Funk Railroad. In comparison to James Gang, Mark Farner and the boys were amateurs, no big deal. Bomber. It's too strong, something's wrong... there's nothing left to smoke... will I be back tomorrow for the dark side of the joke... Yeah.............................Yeah, Yeah. Yeah Yeah!

    R.... O....

Ray Okoa I always when I was younger thought it was punch line of the joke… lol

I'm 45 and haven't cut mine yet. No... I'm not a bum. I just kept my hair long and have a good job. I do, on the other hand, have my wife trim mine twice a year.

  94. B.... H....

This album seriously rocks after 46 years. I have listened to it often over the years and still do.

    B.... H....

46 years and it feels like yesterday

    B.... H....

A near-perfect hard rock record that is often undeservedly overlooked. A bona-fide classic.

    B.... H....

Only music this good could last that long

    B.... H....

@Mike Gerstbrein Great album. I only had the cassette

  95. R.... D....

I was 3 or 4, listening to this when it first came out. Finally bought Joe Walsh's 'Best of...' CD after all these years. As long as we have this good stuff still with us, today's so-called 'music' is powerless to get at us.

  96. w.... t....

i bought this album from a record club offering,i think  i liked" the graphics",as we called it then ,the stark black and white presentation, was ,beyond anything,in the era of the beatles, stones color, psychelelic ...was the expected...here it was, something totally different  new from Cleveland!...i was born in Cleveland ...damn!

  97. J.... J....

    1:45... Boston Anyone?

  98. M.... ....

Just a few seconds into the song............ and................. I'm back............... Damn, we sure had some good times back then didn't we?

    M.... ....

    Oh you know it!

    M.... ....

@SkinnyBoy Slim That's a fuckin' cryin' shame buddy.......cuz you missed one hell of a good ride.....i shit you not

    M.... ....

@evan morrow Time was much simpler. I remember listening to my cassette back in 71

    M.... ....

The 70s were the best times of my life. I sure miss the 70s.

    M.... ....

@Marc Sawatzki Oh yeah.... Reminds me of riding my BSA 650 Lightning all around the great Northwest and my brother was still alive.

  99. S.... O....

Great lyrics. Sounds like he met a chick at a gig and wrote this on the way to the next gig.

  100. P.... D....
