James, Colin - Just Came Back Lyrics

Well I got stones in my pathway
And my road seems dark at night
I got stones in my pathway
And my road seems dark at night
I got pains in my heart
And they've taken my appetite

When I first saw you I heard the angels sing
I thought of Adam and Eve and that love thing
Oh, I was blinded by the light and I just couldn't see
Papa hidin' up in your apple tree
I really hope you're satisfied
I just came back to say goodbye

Girl I found your little black book
You know I opened it up to get a second look
(I had to get a second, second look)
I saw my best friend's name there on the page
Five gold stars beside his name
I really hope you're satisfied
I just came back to say goodbye

I just came back to say goodbye
(I just came back) Goodbye baby
I just came back to say goodbye
(I just came back) Goodbye baby

I felt real bad thought I'd give you a call
I didn't look up your number I just looked on the wall
You know your best friend said you'd gone for the night
Goin' downtown with your jeans on tight
I really hope you're satisfied
I just came back to say goodbye

I just came back to say goodbye
(I just came back) Goodbye baby
I just came back to say goodbye
(I just came back) Goodbye baby

James, Colin Just Came Back Comments
  1. I.... K....

I always liked this song until I realized that its chorus is a complete rip-off of Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You". The bass line of the song also rips off Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love". The concept of the old blues tune, at the beginning, breaking into heavy rock guitar is straight out of Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top. Very, very derivative. That's probably why it didn't get much airplay. Colin James isn't so much underrated as just, simply, understood.

  2. a.... g....

    Yes !!! Blues !!!

  3. K.... d....

Sounds like he ripped it off... Bon Jovi...bad medicine...

    J.... S....

    Bad medicine

    J.... S....

    NO!!!! HIS OWN !!!

  10. E.... ....

I bought the album back in the dayS. Unmatched groove. Blistering (melodic) big band rock. His best album for me. Still on the playlist today :). Great voice. Should have catapulted him to "stardom" outside Canada.

  11. G.... R....

I just came back.. To hear this song.

  12. n.... ....

Taylor swift totally ripped off Colin James.

  13. J.... R....

Saw Colin live in Toronto on April 6th. Wow, he hasn't changed a bit. Actually ripened. I've been following him since he is 19.. Wish my life would have brought me to him. I am 71 years young and my son is 50...He has a collection of guitars, fixes them, plays them and he can play like any thing he desires. He introduced me to Colin way back when. I still love Colin and maybe in my next life, we can meet and be good friends. His wife is lucky to be his wife. I hope he is good to her. xoxox

This song was also big in the United States, or at least in the Detroit area back in 1990. This song was on Detroit rock radio station WRIF's play list in the summer and fall of '90. That was back when WRIF legendary afternoon DJ Arthur Penhallow was tearing up the airwaves. Great memories!!!!

  60. D.... ....

After 25 years I finally got a copy of this cd. Total brilliance.

  61. j.... ....

I always thought for some reason hearing this years ago on the radio mostly in the car/at an old job I recall dancing with mop (not the best quality sound mind you) and always thought the beginning was an old blues guy like Robert Johnson, Hopkins, I knew it wasn't but someone! Props to this dude this song fuckin rocks lol

    j.... ....

its a Johnson tune actually buddy, I allways loved how james used the intro to remind people who know how the original blues is the backbone of the modern music of the time how all the guitar in that tune as hard rock as it sounded was all played in the blues scale

  62. A.... S....

good music if you know what to listen to it rocks my life

  63. L.... S....

    real music!

  64. J.... R....

I had this song played at a party. I was leaving back for the City next morning. I essentially just went back to say Goodbye. Then people were asking my family where I was and what my phone number is. My parents passed away & extended family just HAD to choke off any good that was left while my own daughters joined them so there was no one there for me anymore. Why the F erHell would I stay?

    J.... R....

I honestly found out rest of family were getting only 2 daughters to rain down on me harder. I have my Great Uncle there & that's it. He is supposed to come live here. The rest can go to Hell now for all they've said & done to try their best to cause more pain. So F them all! Wouldn't talk to them now if they did call.

    J.... R....

I mean, seriously? Who does such miserable stuff and says such things to an only child who just lost her parents who were not the smartest when it came to my eldest daughter. They divided everything 3 ways, yet she stole most of what was to be mine and even what was mine in storage at my Parents. Then on her b.s ing Father's say, tries to sue me for what I did get? Because extended family who'd always been jealous with malicious intent agreed with him who they'd always hated and talked about? Last time I went back, no one knew. I wish I do no need to go back a 3rd time. Even an even tempered loves everyone and always forgives fast, has a breaking point. That goes for ex friends of any kind or age too. Some areas are really bad with evil people.

    J.... R....

Your best bet is to expel all who dont make you feel good from your life.
There is nothing like continuous negativity to kill ones spirit

    J.... R....

]True. & usually do without ever looking back. Just, nothing ever hurt so badly before so though no contact, on the toughest days, I make these dumb comment.

    J.... R....

Chin up girl, never look back unless its to something that made you happy and  smile....., wish you all the best for 2017, may it be a good year for you xxx

  65. J.... M....

My father and I are going to see Colin live on February 17th- such a beautiful voice ♡

  66. N.... F....

  67. S.... B....

I think Colin James is the bomb but just realized the main beat is a rip off from Robert Palmers simply Irresistable.

  68. S.... H....

    I absolutely love this.

  69. Y.... ....

Is it odd that I'm 14 and love classic rock

  75. T.... S....

I could have sworn this video had the black back up singer giving the bride a shove at some point. Maybe that was from a different music video, or they edited it out.

    T.... S....

+Tyler Stevens ....or in your naughty imagination :-)

  76. C.... ....

Song starts in 1940 & branches off into 1990!.

    C.... ....

It's the beginning of "Stones in my Passway" by Robert Johnson, recorded 1937.

    C.... ....

@N. W. Flitcraft Robert Johnson himself originally did the Song/Segment at the beginning?. Geez, I didn't know that.

    C.... ....

Thanks for the info. I always loved that segue in the beginning of this tune!

    C.... ....

Facts matter - that's awesome - and thanks for it. :)

    C.... ....

Never realised this was a cover to my shame. What a great version of this song saw him supporting Alannah Miles of Black Velvet fame.

  82. b.... ....

I saw CJ c1989 at Hammersmith Apollo as it was, supporting Los Lobos. They (because it is a band effort) went down a storm. The drummer invited me to the rest of their London gigs. Great couple of weeks and some superb up-close music. CJ turned up one night with a hand like a football, looked like he'd had a punch up but carried on regardless. Stevie Ray was right to back him - a great performer.

    b.... ....

    @busker1000 Must have been July 4, 1988.

  83. B.... T....

I saw Colin James play in CASTELGAR BC at the high arrow I believe it was called. This place was a dive to him Im sure but he put on a great show and was a real gentlemen to all us ladies.😃

  88. M.... W....

what a guitarist ! saw a couple of years ago in concert , blew me away ! this guy is amazing !

  89. j.... ....

why did you rip off "Addicted to love" by Robert Palmer?

    j.... ....

Music is music....Palmer ripped it off from ???? somebody. There's only so many hooks and riffs to avoid duplication.

  90. S.... ....

    SO CLASSIC !!! Bitches !!!

  91. b.... ....

What ever happened to him anyway?

    b.... ....

He got him self a ship and sailed into the sunset .

LOl are you talking about an ad? Cause the intro is %100 Robert Johnsons Stones in my passway

    T.... H....

You know down the road is glitch-hop, not dubstep

    T.... H....

@1acidwash I think he was being sarcastic. lol

  97. f.... ....

I just heard SRV talk about him in an interview so I guess Stevie Ray Vaughan brought me here lol

  98. H.... M....

I love this song. What a talent, Canadian to boot! Check out his duet with the late great Jeff Healy, a fellow Cdn and awesome blind guitarist who died in 2008.

    H.... M....

Yes. I am Canadian. Met Bryan Adams and Colin James. Their Mom's used to curl and bring them to every town. I met them through curling. Not Jeff Heally unfortunately. But, we do not say Aye, Eh or aboot and we JUST got our 1st snow last week. So no igloos either! Man some people irk me!

    H.... M....

Nothin wrong wi getting oot and aboot :)
